The reason the air con still works is because it doesn't have climate control.

Much simpler system with less to go wrong.

I'm thinking of sorting mine, but can't be arsed really.

Corroded wires to the PCM are common,as well as leaks from the condenser.

Just a crap system in an otherwise well sorted car.

Changing or removing the pollen filter always helps as well.

£1,399 BIN!!! On a worn smooth Mondy.????

Could see it being worth that if it was still plated but it’s now just an expensive worn out Mondeo isn’t it!

Posted

It does wear its miles well.

It's expensive if you're buying it to do 5k a year in. However, if you wanted to carry on doing those miles, £1400 to buy it, put 40k on in a year which, on the balance of probabilities it looks like it'll do quite easily, and then scrap it would work out at 3p per mile before tax/insurance/petrol etc. Chances are you could probably still punt it on with a new ticket for several hundred after that.

Proper man maths I suppose, but that's the best* way to buy a car. :-D

My instincts say walk away. He wouldn't of gone to the trouble of replating it if he wanted to replace it shortly and if it was any good then he would of punted it out within the trade.

Taxi drivers don't often chuck a car unless its too old to plate or its becoming a liability. I'm guessing its the latter.

My mk4 is going for it's test on Thursday.

Current mileage is a mere 164k,Or 264km if you prefer the metric system.

Just giving it a clean and check over.

*knows nothing as always* :-D

Either way, I like seeing diesels getting proper mileages. It makes a nice break from the thousands of clagging black-smoke belching 3/4 year old appliances you see bimbling about doing 3k per year.

I've seen a one of the fabled red with a black boot handle Mondeos near St Neotsa couple of times, it's a local taxi and thought it odd I've seen it so often. Until last week when I went past Cambridge on the A14 - I saw 3 of the feckers! God knows how many they've got, think the company is Steves Cabs and they have adverts for a used car place and tyre place on them.

Well it passed, slightly concerned that the smoke test was quite near the limit, apart from that it's a clean bill of health for another year.

Discs and pads are getting near the end of their service life now though.

Yep Steve’s Taxis. They also sell used cars too - although I’m not sure I’d fancy buying a red mondeo from them.

Is it true? Could it be?

I don't see why not?

The earliest I have ever seen or known are '57' plate cars.

An 07 plate Ghia SALOON lives around the corner from me. I must remember to take a snap of it.

I noticed the TX I saw had the nav unit and WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE extras. :-)

The Mk4 Mondeo Ghia's interior, particularly the wood trim, is amongst the worst I've ever seen.

Which, of course, makes it highly desirable.

I quite like a bit of random plastiwood, I once used fablon on the dash of an early mk3 Granada Ghia, in my defence Ford did the same thing in 1987.

So that's OK, right? Isn't it? Guys?...

I'll get me coat.

That's because it's a weird spec, with the dual zone climate but without touchscreen nav - so you get the weird standalone climate panel instead of it being integrated into the TravelPilot NX head unit. So the stereo looks too small, and there's too many different "bits" to it where the wood is in between silver panels.

NITE NITE LITEL SOLDJA

I actually felt quite sad about missing out on the chance to roffle this on here.

Never mind. I can't complain as I paid £700 for her.

Terrible shame. How many miles had she done?

I'm guessing about 430,000.

Not a bad inning really.
