DMF is thick end of £7-800 on that. But then you’d have one with a known good DMF. Depends what else is wrong with it.

Don't know, yes (used for a small motorbike trailer) and yes (the earlier TDCi 140). As for price, I've really no idea what it's worth but depends whether I fix the EML light which has just come on. P2002, so thinking either a blocked DPF, or hopefully just deteriorated hoses to the pressure sensor. Light comes on, no loss of performance, then limp home mode after a while. Reset the light and all is well for a few days but it will come back on I'm sure.

What do folk reckon it's worth? Had new rear brake calipers this year, new front pads and discs, new strut mount bearings, front wheel bearing and strut too. 173k miles.

I can put my new Forscan set up on it and try a forced regen if you like?

I don't know what it's worth, maybe £300 😜

Seriously though sounds good, fits the bill, I'd be interested for sure.

I might take you up on that, thanks! Let me do some checks first though.

Let me know, you're welcome to any time. I might even be able to take a trip out west if you're stuck with it limping around.

Assuming the DMF is ok it almost certainly worth fixing. I wouldn’t do a forced regen unless it’s last resort.

Very likely to be the pipes and or the sensor.

DMF was replaced when the clutch was done a few years ago, so definitely not for the bridge just yet. Now I'm not travelling to work any more it's just surplus to requirements though.

I’d get a crappy old laptop, a good ELM adapter and check it out.

@mat_the_cat or borrow mine, as mentioned i have FORScan on it and not afraid to use it. Kind of actually, I'm still learning my way around it.

I was considering getting a 4x4 for the winter to replace the mondeo however I’m now considering firing a set of winter wheels and tyres on to save the 19’s sliding everywhere,

anyone got a set of alloys that that would be up to the job?

Does anybody know if the facelift mk 3 estate has a facility to fit roof bars? Or can the only be fitted to cars with roof rails?

I think so, it has the rails that sit in the gutters no?

You aren’t thinking of buying one of those steaming piles of shit?

Possibly. However a friend came round in one he had been asked to look at - titanium, nine years old with a genuine 29k. Problems? It's a powershift - owner couldn't get it out of P. The price for a new selector assembly? From ford is was £1k. £40 on a used item had it moving - despite the codes being cleared with genuine ford software the malfunction still comes ( a ford tech did the diagnostics). Only thing left to do is a transmission service. After that some tough decisions need to be made.

If we do get one it won't be a powershit.

That’s a Mk4 not a Mk3, the Mk3 has a JATCO box in it. Much better car, go for the 2.0 if you want to avoid the ball ache of replacing the wet belt.

Yeah they’re alright as A N car.

Lol and I'm considering buying no.2 for our family over a 280bhp Volvo v70!

I think i need my head seeing to.

I mean, they’re one of those cars that’s a good workhorse. Apart from the 2.2 none of them are what you’d call quick but really who cares, they do plenty to the gallon though and don’t give a lot of trouble. You could do a lot worse.

To be fair the 280bhp volvo must make most of those fine Swedish horses above the revs that I was driving at, it felt no faster from 1500 to 3000 rpm than our 2.0 tdci and positively less punchy than my roid-boy spec passat 1.9tdi

I have 'the fear' every time I use it.
