This is the one I bought, tried to get some CHF today to change the PAS fluid to no avail in Halfords, eventually found the right green shit for sale at GSF, so I’ll be hot footing it down there tomorrow.

I'm not sure about the black tints.  Has it got reversing sensors?

Syphoned the fluid out, wasn’t that bad, still quite fluid but a clot came out. Chucked the new fluid in and bled it, hopefully it’ll prevent agg from the pump or the rack.

Although none of mine suffered PAS failure one of my colleagues did have an 08 plate 2.0 dizzler that did shit its PAS so it's not unheard of.

How are the rear pads? I found them an utter twat to replace, not Rover P6 type bad but still a pain in the arse. You'll need a proper winding in tool to change them.

I’ve got the tackle for that they’re similar to Mk3 Mondeo. It’s got new discs and pads on back and front so I’m good for a while.

Changed the oil today. Fucking filter housing was done up to 500nm by Geoff Capes. Didn’t have the time or the inclination today to smash it off so I’ve left it for time being.

Looked into getting another belt fitted, garage reckons it a wet belt but I reckon this sounds like bollocks as only the 1.8 was fitted with the wet belt as far as I know.

Yes you're correct and the garage is talking bollocks.

Although your engine isn't a safe, freewheeling motor it'll only snap it's rockers in the event of a belt snappage. Price up the cost of replacement and gamble accordingly.

Had a word with a local cab firm that run loads of them, big issue he reckons is the crank bolt shearing, he said for that reason he’d be reluctant to do it, as far as much to say he usually runs them until the belt fucks off given the value of them these days.

So what's the difference between Edge and Zetec in terms of equipment?  Edge seems to have cruise and electric windows all round - is it just the steel wheels with trimz rather than alloys and the manual HVAC instead of climate?

The Zetec has front fog lights and colour coded door handles also. I don’t know if the Edge has bluetooth and voice recognition?

Edge has wind-up windows in the back, at launch anyway. The radio was also different - single slot CD - although you could still control via steering wheel.

Mine has started to fall to bits!!!

The Zetec has body coloured door handles, electric rear window, electric drivers seat height adjustment and climate control where the Edge only has aircon.

Mines still there but crusty as fuck. I’d replace it but it looks like it’d bust the plastic bit round it before it came off so it’ll have to stay.

Phew!!

Crisis averted!

Found the badge insert laying under a bush in the driveway.

Couple of coats of clear Lacquer and a dollop of chemical metal later it's reattached in is rightful place.

I'd got it washed a year or so back at a hand car wash place, they must have used acid to clean the car as it took the original lacquer off the badge, and the wheel centre caps.

Never again,it can stay dirty.

Here's mine - 2.0 TDCi 140 Zetec.  I hadn't introduced it before as I rarely venture into the modern section and hadn't realised there was so much appreciation for them on here.

Got the trip computer working again, sprayed some contact cleaner behind the switches. However the horn still doesn’t work, think it’s probably the connection to the the sounder itself. Having run it for a few months I can say I’m impressed, it’s streets ahead of the Mk3 diesel in every way, feels a lot more solid.

Seems loads of them in the classifieds at 200-300k so they’ll obviously do the distance.

Finally got the oil filter off. What a fucking stupid piece of design! A plastic 27mm hex on the top of the housing that collapses as soon as you put any torque to it. Managed despite the awful access to get some filter grips round it and release it a cm at a time and swat a new filter in. Next stop is the fuel filter, need to get a decent primer and drag it through from the pump end.

I clamp off the two pipes going into the fuel filter housing then remove them.Remove filter, clean, then reassemble the new one.

Then I fill the filter housing from a can of clean diesel with a primer pump until it comes out the top pipe connections, refit the pipes, remove clamps, and start.

Trying to prime it through from the pump end is a monumental pain.

Thank god it doesn’t need doing very often.

One of the worst things about the mk4 is that fuel filter housing and bleeding the system afterwards.

The mk5 mondeo is self bleeding, filter is under the bonnet on them too.

This can also be solved by buying a 2.2. :-)

Surprised the cost of a clutch and DMF has come down on these a lot, out of interest checked this out with the local gearbox specialists they fit them for £600 which I didn’t think was bad at all given the parts are probably £300 and it looks a properly wank job to tackle.

Not looking forward to the fuel filter job. Just love being laid on my back diesel spilling everywhere. Looked at the primer pump thing, £22 seemed steep for a couple of quid bulb, some fuel hose and a quick release fuel clip. Reckon could knock one up with some quick release return hose clips from breakers.

You can also use a vacuum cleaner to purge the air from the system, if you can’t be arsed to pump it out,

IMO it was never that bad of a job.

Yeah not sure wife would be happy with me using her new hoover for that.

Before you lot complain about the 2.0 dizzler fuel filter change please remember the Rotodiesel plunger fitted to the pre common rail 1.8 Ford diesels that would only work once before splitting its diaphragm requiring the creative useage of a latex glove to get you home after you'd managed to crack all the injectors off to bleed it through.

Mine has failed its MOT, on a front balljoint and a rear trailing arm bush.  Front balljoint looks a piece of piss, trailing arm bush not so much.  This might be one that I have to hand over to the garage to do...
