2005 Suzuki Ignis

A lady from my church has one of these and is looking for a new car.

The Ignis appears to be in good condition except for a noisy gearbox.  She had a new clutch a year ago and I suspect that this isn't a coincidence.

The car is driveable and changes gear etc, but the noise sounds pretty terminal to me.

I would therefore expect the price to be low.  Someone would just need to beat the trade-in price.

Sorry I don't have more details yet but I thought some early warning might be useful.

We are visiting a Ford dealership on Saturday so we will see what the trade-in price is.  It would be useful to know if there is any interest before I we go.  She is looking at Ka+

The Ignis is in Acton, west London.

Is it a whine?

I think they all do that. Are they not straight cut or summat?

Sorry if Im assuming that you dont know the difference between the sound of a fucked box and a suzuki box.

Posted

it's f#&$ed

it doesn't jump out of gear or have any engagement problems

also it seems quieter in fourth gear according to the owner

I would say that a bearing has collapsed or something

Posted

2wd box is the same so that opens up options for viable replacements. Or potentially look for repair kits if labour is of no concern.

Posted

Quieter in 4th usually means the layshaft bearings are fucked, as 4th is normally direct drive bypassing the layshaft.

I had a quote from a local gearbox place of about £450 to put new bearing in the gearbox

Posted

I'm really surprised the box has only lasted 49K miles ! Has it leaked all the gear oil out ? Will a top-up make it last a little bit longer ?

Posted

Probably going to end up working out uneconomically, but let me know how much please. I’ve still got the partly broken Ignis here that has a decent box, I think.

She had a new clutch last year. Maybe the garage that did the clutch did something bad to it.

Posted

Sorry guys but Ford offered her £350 for it so she took it.

Wow, can't blame her for that.

They said that it will go to auction, not scrap. I have a few photos if anyone wants.

Wow, can't blame her for that.

End of the day there was obviously another £349 in the deal - doubt they’ll see it back for it but there must be a healthy profit

Posted

They probably have some new shiny shit with a cushy PCP deal for her to make £££££'s on

Posted

No PCP. She will keep this one for 10+ years. For a small car it's actually quite nice.

Latest Ka is a Brazilian design, as is the Ecosport.

It’s probably easily the size of a Mk4, maybe even a Mk5, Fiesta.

Posted

It has a four cylinder 1.25 engine rather than the three cylinder in the Fiesta. I'm hoping it will be a tougher design but I don't know too much about it.

As there seems to be some interest in this I will post the photos.

49000 miles

Full service history but from independants, not Suzuki

Clutch one year old

Long MOT

Probable bearing failure in gearbox

Dent on front wing.

It will most likely become the property of SMC Ford in Slough this Wednesday afternoon, and I am sure that they will be pleased to get rid off it quickly if someone wanted to put in a "trade" or "spares or repair" offer.

No they won’t - it’ll go straight to auction.

Too many salesmen making money on the QT killed any hope of main dealers selling off shite PX for cash
