Rear end, he says.... where?  It's all been stripped out!  All that's left is sheet metal.  I presume the rest of it is bundled up inside?

I hope so, not sure really Eddy, my Dad had a couple of these when we were young so I have a fondness for them, but this one is beyond my patience and skillz, also wallet etc :(

Max doesn't like it either, but shook hands on a resto with the lad who owns the mondeo, who promptly buggered off travelling for a year, so can't really sell or scrap it without checking with him first ;)

I think it's pretty safe to say this won't be the van I swop for my Rover.... ;)

XR2 engine - I'm out but there are various Fiesta groups out there where the word could be spread, if your man wants?

Jim if we can get a photo of the actual engine that will help greatly, I reckon it would go quickly at a ton if people can figure out what carb it has.

Posted

It's basically a decent shell, decent diesel non turbo 160k 1769cc engine, in the normal world a spares car, in Max's world salvageable - he was going to put a 406 diesel turbo intercooler engine in which he has, but didn't, obviously(says he thinks it's the same cc).

Asking £100 for the car, £100 for the engine, buy both and get a massive discount! (as far as I can see in the next couple of weeks make a daft offer you'll probably get them for peanuts ;)

How dead is it? Spares only or MOT-able?

I haven't been able to get in the engine storage area yet, he's not ready for that yet apparently, but as soon as I get the chance I will :)

here's some outdoor volvo engine action to be going on with - with added gearbox, wants offers around £200, it's a B series 2.3 :)

He says the engine is fine, I personally wouldn't go down the route of getting it legal, but he would, due to having all the bits and welding skillz etc - not for the amateur for sure I reckon, and surely a legal one would be cheaper? He is of the opinion the diesel engine is very sought after, I am not so sure, but I think you'd get it for less than it would weigh in for :)

I've helped people move units before with a fraction of what's there & it took 3 people (12+hours aday) a month, so he's got very little chance with that lot without being ruthless & it was obvious he doesn't want to let things go , where expecting the tercel to be more than a five minute job to extract & I've many years of experience extracting vehicles from these sorts of situations.

I'm pretty sure the 700 was designed to last 21 years or something similar. There was some sort of marketing advertising about them at the time because they were able and built to last so long.

21.7 years, according to my 1986 740 brochure. The Volvo is 28 years old this May

The last Tercel 4x4 I saw was in my yard around two years ago. I'm pretty sure I sold it to a chap from Sheffield called Steve...

Hi there, i bought one from Halifax would that be you ?

Posted

No I live down in Ludlow, South Shropshire. It may have been Halifax it went to, I can't remember! It was somewhere up north. I didn't meet the seller, it went on a recovery truck

It's beyond me how he thinks that lot is going smoothly, but hey, he reckons he moved in there with much more, and with less notice!!

He does say that all the mini shells are on dollies, so will "easily" roll out of there onto his awaiting trailer, and he did have a reorganisation not so long ago, although you might not think it, so who knows!!

It's the stuff inside the unit I have difficulty in working out how he's going to have time to get out, without doing himself in physically and mentally, but he has a cunning plan I reckon to get several club members involved at some stage maybe :?

It does make fascinating viewing 'tho, I've not seen half that shite before, he keeps a lot of stuff under wraps :-D

Arguably the condition of the cars suggests he already has....

What you've seen is cars and spares he has kept as future projects belonging to him, or customers/club members, or parts caches for personal motors - none of which are anything to do with his core business, which is restoring old Mini's, and working on similar era BL chod etc that people bring for him to work on.

This is why most of the stuff is free, he cannot afford the luxury of having this lot sat in his new unit, there is no room, nor realistically the time for him to start resto work on the projects, he hasn't given up on any of his day work, and has plenty of other stuff close to his heart which needs sorting first, like his ninety odd year old mothers MG, his son's sprite, his own mini van, and several others.

You haven't seen what is inside the units that he is working on and needs for his livelihood, and at some point I may well document what comes out, but I have been asked to help save a load of old cars from the bridge, which I'm doing to boost my shiter karma due to being on the receiving end of much generosity since becoming a forum member.

Which reminds me, I think I will start a thread on my meagre collection, I have been threatening to do this for a while, and now Eddy has taught me how to stick pics up, it will be at least a bit more interesting on the eye :)

The '.7' bit is oddly specific! Why not just round it to 22.

I knew I'd read it somewhere so at least I'm not imagining things.

Mines just coming up to 30 years old. Quality products these Swedish tanks!

Hello d'jimbob, I'm looking for a Volvo 240 bonnet, front slam panel and the panel behind and below the headlights, a passenger headlight, grill and maybe front bumper mountings.

Any chance your chappy might have these?

I think you have a great chance there, I shall make another list, and have words tomorrow, as the Prairie is going in the afternoon if I'm not mistaken :)

I will get pictures of the areas of Metro / 100 areas of trim required. I will be back home on Friday ( currently working away in Ireland).

Is it the same Volvo where the bonnet is bent and do I deduce that I will eventually have a car that is devoid of any rear axle?

Yes it has the bent bonnet, but he will supply a 240 axle to replace the 265 axle on the day!

So he envisages anyone taking it on will have to get it stripped down to the shell (like he always does), and so removing the axle wouldn't be a big problem anyway, and when that happens he would like to come and get it back, due to the 265 having a limited slip diff apparently, which the 240 doesn't.

I think he may be over valuing the 265 axle, but if that is what he wants, then fair enough I suppose ;)

So, to clarify, you will be getting a Volvo 265 without the engine and roofrack, a bent bonnet, and a 240 axle to eventually swap out for the existing axle at your convenience, on steelies, with the pick of a large pile of 240 parts.

As mentioned he has a couple of engines and so on which I am positive a very lowball cash offer will secure, and perhaps most helpful you will be able to pick his brains going forwards as he knows these inside out, and purchase other spares later on if needs be, as people keep giving him them randomly, and he is a big fan of them :)

I don't think there is a spare straight bonnet, but I will ask, you never know (until you do).

Most enjoyable afternoon aside from the bit where I learnt I have no stamina after xmas using the winch :-P

Great to meet Ed who took the Prairie, and Mike who took the drill press and the pallet truck (and who got roped into helping restore an old compressor!)

Some pics -

So that's one full car down, another three or four, or more, to go!

I am enjoying this whole process as I get to meet some excellent fellow shiters, pity we've got a deadline as I could listen to and blather on about shite all day, and slobber all over stuff like Ed's tow vehicle today :)

Good to see the first one off to its new home and hopefully on the road sometime soon, Im ready and waiting for the all clear to collect the Tercel  :-D

hi i'm after various bits of Volvo 240 interior: centre console, door cards, handbrake cover and plastic trim that goes in between the door and behind the rear doors on the inside. Is any of these bits available?

Hi,

sounds like we may have those bits, I am probably not going back to the unit until early next week, so will take my latest wanted list up and try and narrow it down - the problem is a lot of these bits are wedged in cars and difficult to access, hopefully more progress will be forthcoming :)

A good day again, met Tom and Jaz, and one Van denplas down, will update with photos probably tomorrow :)

Will put these on the wanted list part two, and report back next week hopefully when more becomes get-attable ;)

I do covet those Wellers...

I think I've met your mate in 2007 when I was looking for a bits for my last Metro. My impression was that he only looked at Metros as engine donors for Minis... :-(
