Had a late start yesterday so did some messing about, first job was to release the Uno from the garden.  Bin men had left recycling containers mid drive and turning it to miss them the drivers side front wheel had gone off the block paving into the garden.  The car wasn't going to move as it was grounded on the drive.  The trolley jack wouldn't get under it so I made use of the Y10 sill jack which actually has a picture of a 5 door uno on it!  Putting a couple of pavers under the wheel it was just a matter of gently reversing off.  Now I was paranoid about any damage I may have done, I thought I'd knackered the clutch as it stank and fluid was dripping onto the floor.  Turned out just to be water finding its way out of the scuttle having being parked at a silly angle in the rain.post-17396-0-80063500-1459965324_thumb.jpg

The Panda Selecta's light switch had gone faulty and wouldn't turn on lights at all, not helped I suspect by the last owner using higher wattage bulbs, the plastic connector on the back was discoloured and scorched.  I took the one I'd just replaced on the 4x4 off as it's erratic starting and running issues have put paid to daily use.

The Y10 got some love, I got hold of a couple of washer motors and fitted them, they work, at least they make the noise, but failed to pump any water to either screen.  I didn't keep them under load for long as I feared they might burn out.  I'm planning to get a small air line (not like Freddy Laker, the auto motive type) and will give them a blow out, though I'll replace the front line as it's not very long and the ends are split.

The earthing points are next to the water tank so I gave it a once over with a wire brush, tightened up the connectors and copper greased it, seemed appropriate to use as the "hedgehog" turned out to be copper once cleaned.

Finally today I fitted a power socket to the selecta, after market cigar lighters are too small for the hole under the blanking plate, I have a small collection of them as I kept buying them in the hope they would fit.  The power socket is threaded and a nut secures it at the back.  Great for keeping the phone on charge when used as a sat nav.  Oh and the Uno got a posh wiper!

SD1 visit paid. Completion has yet again been delayed, this time by a nasty incident a few weeks ago in which my mechanic set fire to himself while welding a Transit. Work looks set to start again in a couple of weeks once the injury/trauma has healed enough.

This car must radiate bad luck to all those who surround it.

Daily focus boring mobile decided to repay me for spending a shitload of money on it by dropping all its coolant into the drivers footwell and overheating on my way to work when I was already running late, I had to nurse it back home and take another car to work, it turns out an o ring had failed on the pipes joining the heater matrix to the cooling system, up under the dash.

I popped to Ford garage after work, (it's 200 yards away from my house) and they had the o ring and clip in stock for under £6, what a twat of a job, lying upside down trying to fit in the footwell when you are a big bloke like me wasn't fun, got there in the end mind and is all good now, I'm very tempted to go and PX it for a decent 330i/320d at the minute.

Bonus grin for today is that the 1 litre 3 pot Corsa I bought for my daughter sounds great when you are ragging the nuts off it, I wasn't any slower down the 10 mile b road I travel to work on than I would normally be in the Focus :D

That's never a Defender at that age. Still makes up for all the Defenders on Series tax free status ;)

Nope, it's a Series 2a with Defender front end & screen - it's still got the cart springs & non-synchro box in 1st & 2nd though :-D

The normal way - keep the 1940s looks, but replace the running gear with that from the more modern models for improved power, comfort and economy.

The Autoshite way - replace the bits that make no difference to the way it drives but keep the grim 1940s mechanical underpinnings.

That's the truly masochistic way!

Bought another car yesterday.

I was going to do a full on collection thread, but was worried you'd think I was a cock and/or special needs.

It is cute AF.  Pretty identical to the one I commandeered myself back in the mid 80s.  Son #3 will be foaming at the mouth later on.

Went to go see a BMW for my son the other night. On paper and pics it looked a belter.
Arrived at address, owner was typical Billy bullsh*t. Which put me off straight away. Noticed he opened car with key not remote. 'Don't work mate came the reply'. Only one key. 'I'll forward it on mate' (yeah rite).
Opened bonnet, checked vins all ok then noticed struct top bowed instead of flat like the O/S. So clearly been launched at some point. Wants jigging and new strut top mount as min I said to the guy.

Became all defensive saying it's hpi clear etc etc. Said that means didly shite and does not mean it's not been bumped it just means that it's not had an insuance claim total loss against it.

Noticed new tyre n/s/f rest all shagged. 'All do that came the reply' I said my focus has done 70,000 and its on its second set of front tyres with no scrubbing.

Told my son to walk away. He was gutted but the guy was an arse.

Still on the lookout. We escaped, me thinks.

FTP in the 306 hdi, on the motorway engine went into limp, alternator light on then coasted to a halt, restarted then did it again but got it going to get me home, EML lit up scanned it and said 2  codes  present but couldn't read them, cleared them and all good again.  Cleaned up the lever type + battery terminal as I can hear they can cause issues.  May have to call the Scirocco into action

If I didn't need to sell the Series 2a soon-ish to free up some driveway space I'd fit my spare 200 TDi engine, but I don't have the time so I'll have to use that engine in a "TBA project" at some future date :-)

A4 got a K&N panel filter (Old Man's too cheap for induction kits) and a new set of Bosch spark plugs today.

wheeeeeeeeeee

Much more responsive. :-D

Currently trying to arrange eBay collection antics for some rimz_yo at the weekend. edit: we're off to Great Harwood on Sat afternoon

"I'm not a boy racer"

-Old Man, on me trying to put a K&N sticker on the A4's rear quarterlight. A quattro A4 lowered 40mm, soon to be on 17" wheels, with facelift headlights with LED sidelights, and a K&N filter because +5bhp.

Can anyone recommend a decent model of those Vax steam cleaner thingies? Seen a lot of folk on here using them to deep clean seats and carpets. My fiesta hasn't had a proper in the whole 14 years its been alive

I have a Vax "Utility Master S10" which is a discontinued model but I imagine similar are available.

Rate it for plastics and headlinings as far as interiors go, seats and carpets want a wet vac rather than steam
