New egr valve 40 quid, 02 sensor 60 quid, service pack and new battery 120 quid. This a2 is getting expensive and it's not turned a wheel !

Time will tell if it's money well spent.

I spent yesterday at work freeing this old bad boy off, and hope to see if I can get it running on mon.

Has been in a fire. So all the hoses have gone.

Went with my dad to pick his t4 van up today.

It's slightly pineappled. But easily sorted. The main bonus is it's completely rust free and in amazing condition. Only done 100k and has a massive history file and all the belts done last year.

Also I get to use it for some exploration of the U.K. Isles.

Then also my old dear changed her mito for a mx5 just in time for winter.

I have the task of selling it on, there not worth much to say it's a 60 plate and the 1.4t 155bhp model. It's a ace little drive, and she had a custom made back box fitted not long ago as the original Alfa one had rotten through, so it sounds brill, pops and bang when you come of the throttle at high rpm.

I have the Land Rover back again, not sure if I'd said about the steering. It had gone a bit sloppy and I had a weep of fluid from the steering box, there was also a come and go shimmy occurring. I had a quick look at it to make sure nothing was loose or falling off, couldn't see anything obviously amiss but put it in to be looked at.

The box appeared to be on its way out and while they could have tried adjusting and fitting new seals, as it's a keeper I told them to go ahead and fit a new one. The steering is back to being as lovely as you get with a Land Rover, it's no longer dripping power steering fluid and the annoying shimmy has gone. I really ought to have done the job myself, but didn't feel like it, so whilst the bill was not small, I'm glad it was nowhere near xtriple Bentley levels,

Hey, I'm going for the award of 'highest repair bill of evah!' I feel safe on here that no one is going to beat it.... and if they have/are about to, would they be stupid enough to admit it?

Hmm, thread time?

im sure many people on here havnt spent the cost of what youve spent repairing the bentley on a fleet of 15 shitters, but its what makes you happy and the repair bill is in accordance with the value of your car so i wouldnt say stupid

Try me - C4 and Amazon generated some utterly stupid bills (although I think you've probably spent more on the Bentley than I have in total on that bloody 120...)

The battery on the a2 is very dead. This means only the front doors open, the rears are dead locked. The battery is in the boot and the switch is electrically  operated and

the boot is full of old alloy wheels. Audi luckily thought this might happen and put a manual release on the inside the boot lid. To get to it I had to climb between the front seats, lean over and pull it. This went okay but when getting out I got one foot out the car and the other got stuck between the handbrake and the seat. For about 15 seconds I was completely stuck to the point I could see a local news bulletin in my head with the fire brigade cutting the roof off the audi and the headline "local idiot gets foot stuck in own car." I got out eventually (I'm not writing this from the car). The battery is goosed though I jumped it and ran the car for 5 minutes but when I tried to start it again it was totally dead again.

I'm going to try to to do all the pending works tomorrow (pending hangover)

That's good - when I was in U-Pull-It there were a load of A4s with inacessible boots as they were deadlocked somehow and it's apparently random chance as to whether the rear seat folds or it's a bulkhead.

About 4-5k on ebay.

seems very cheap, I drove one last year and loved it.

That T4 highlights the stupidity of pineapplers. Why on earth would you remove the rear wiper on a vehicle with a flat arse like that? Stupid wheels aside, I do like it though. Nice vans to drive and the colour is very pleasant.

It's low mileage, full history, two new pirellis, serviced last month. Come on down. AND BUY IT.

Long day spannering.

Brothers 306 is in bits undergoing an engine transplant once again. The welding on of unsuitable turbo fetish has reared it's head again and the poor car is now bound to be unreliable from here on in. Should be a laugh though.

Still had no other time for the ZX other than to sort out the back brake mot issue, clean it and hoard parts.

Another 850 annoyance fixed today. The central locking has never worked properly from the driver's door, so I've had to lock the car from the boot. It's to do with the way a cam works a microswitch but I can't for the life of me work out what's going wrong. I managed to get another mechanism last week and I fitted it today.

Two schoolboy errors. I plugged the new unit in to try it out and was disappointed to find it was doing the same as the old one- and for good reason, it was the old one. I only realised because there was a bit attached to the new one that I'd left with the car when I took the old one out, otherwise I'd have put it back together with the old lock.

The other one error was more common, I was tidying up after putting it all together and came across a bit that should have been inside the door. I was getting good at stripping the door down by then. It's all working properly now though, which is nice.

Once that was done I filled the tank for the first time since I had it in Yorkshire. It's occurred to me that I've been doing a stupidly long journey on nearly every tank. This time is no exception, it'll be going to Lincolnshire next weekend.

I might be giving you a run for your money with this!

And yes, I'm stupid enough to admit it.

A competition I'd be happy to lose of course.

3 litre, turbocharged, injected type one engine, sequential box...

Had previously run 11.84, today it leapt up like a bastard.

He broke his back in two places when it crashed back down.

This is not good.

Have you got a clipboard or autocue infront of you for all those figures? Well remembered.

Good video, and I like the message of "just drive what you've got" for the best way to keep the planet ticking over.

Just remembered them. Not easy but easier than trying to read notes while driving. I was amazed I got them right to be honest. I'm shit with numbers.

Lots of cranking but going nowhere. Possibly there had been a slight battery drain but unless it catches within about 5 seconds it simply won't start.

Sunday- Overnight charge, a boost from another battery and about 1 minute of cranking and we were underway. I wonder if some of the ignition components are past their best after 8 years being fried on a V8. A bit of investigating still to do; there was an intermittent misfire which never completely went away, but at least it could be used as intended over fields and tracks weighed down with hay and feed.....

Chucked the winter wheels at the car today. Wouldn't think I'd need them yet, in this weather!

Ho-hum, they're on now.

Not good at all, although I heard he was well enough to want someone to race his bus for him.

Fingers crossed.....

Replaced rear pads on the focii. They were getting thin, MOT is due start of Jan and no way am I working on a car over Christmas.

O/S caliper has been replaced, the N/S was a bit sticky - the pads were stuck in the carrier and one of the slides had to be freed off.

Just need a couple of tyres and a 4 wheel alignment now. Weather permitting I shall get under the car next week to see what treatment the body needs as I will not be doing lots of welding for the next MOT - it has advisories for corrosion by the seat belt mountings so I need to have a butchers.

I serviced the a2 and fitted the new egr valve and o2 sensor. It all went smoothly until I tried to undo the sump bolt. After 15 minutes of pulling my hulk face I was ready to head off and get a breaker bar when it yielded.

The a2 has a removable bonnet, which makes access good . Getting it off a piece of piss, getting it back on not so much.
