Likewise - all I've seen is an FD Victor on someone's drive.

Maybe stating the bleeding obvious but have you checked the fuse? It's likely to have a separate fuse for each side.

Unfortunately not - it's of the generation that only had three fuses for the whole car.

The car group I run was invited to display at a local country show today so I took the Mk3 along, it was very damp, cold and the show was pretty pants to be honest with hardly any public turning up which must have been disappointing for the organisers, still there was a few nice cars turn up.

Afterwards a convey of us decided to visit a local museum and found a couple of drive it day group had turned up.

I followed this lovely R21 2.0 TXE in the convey, I had a little play with it later on, the seats are so comfy!

We found this 55k Nova around the back that's been of the road for 10 years, the museum owner said it was his mother in laws and he started it last week after 3 years and it fired straight up, see, not all Vauxhalls R shit!

Goes well too! 89000 miles and 1 previous husband and wife owners, only the stained bumpers let it down.

Kinnel! That Nova is the doppelganger of my first car!

Except mine was much more hanging, natch.

More things I've learned my dad used to own:

an Acclaim, and a B reg Mk2 Golf 1.4 E, that apparently went pretty well? Company cars.

Funny he used to have an Acclaim really, considering he now has a 5 door Civic, a logical successor of sorts.

I have not seen a single classic car today, other than a C-reg Brazilian VW Type 2 that's always in town. Bit depressing. Did have a nice run out in the XM this evening though. Overall, a bit meh.

That's because they were all in the Elan Valley on a run. I saw dozens of the usual MGs and Jags as well as a Magnette and a Jupiter plus a few vintage cars. No pics because I was driving.

I had no idea that it was Drive It Day yesterday - if I had known, I would have driven The Volvo to work in order to give it some exercise. As it was, it spent yet another day sitting idle:

The only old car I saw out and about yesterday was a pale grey Jaguar Mark 1 at Thurrock Services. I would have taken a photo of it, had it not been occupied at the time...

Saw lots of really well kept sports cars out and about yesterday, Morgan V8 and TR4/5 at Milton Keynes,  then later on comng home lunch time passed a lot of juicy well heeled non shiter two seater stuff on the A43 going south from Kettering, several Morgans, MG's, Spitfire etc, then what looked like a BRM single but appeared to be a twin seater.

Getting 4 tyres fitted (bought through BlackCircles) and I've been shoo'd into the office for H&S reasons.

My car is on a ramp in the back and the view from the waiting area is a pile of tyres and the bead breaker under a Fiesta on the first ramp.

This isn't good for my garage paranoia.

Starting to overhear "it's nothing that we've done" conversations....

I have taken my car away from garages who have tried to steer me away from my own car, or one where the MOT viewing area allowed barely any view at all.

Posted

^ That. I'm always suspicious of garages that don't want you to see what's going on as it makes you wonder what they're trying to hide.

Sometimes it's better not to know, when I worked for a Vauxhall dealer a customer complained that the tailgate on his brand new Caviler was out of line so the Service manager took it into the workshop. With no hinge adjustment available the skillful and practiced service manager simply placed a cloth wrapped lump of wood in the shut and closed down the tailgate just the right amount, perfect fit, happy customer!

This is why I don't use garages, i even took my wheels for the saph to get my new tyres on Saturday in the back of mrs fp's car, i can't stand the way places jack cars up, if I take my car with me I have to jack it up myself so I know it's done properly, sad I know but that's me

Strange things happen in garages, again at the Vauxhall dealer the Service Manager just laughed at me when I told him I needed a used car serviced for a delivery in 2 days time when the workshop was on a 10 day lead time.  I ended up arm wrestling the service manager to see if the car was going to be ready! I don’t know what the customer would had thought if he had known!

Chuckles.............Just passed California driving test. I now have 5 diving licenses from different countries.

I bollocked one fitter for jacking my xantia up on the sill flange - utter laziness.

I use mobile companies now.

Posted

With any big mileage car Ive had the underbody near the jacking points nearest driven wheels is nearly always buggered up from years of fast fit type tyre fittings.

My 250k Audi A6 is quite tidy overall but the front of the sill/ floor area is mangled from all those sets of front tyres its gone through

Snowed as far south as glasgow:)

Was snowing as far south as Fauldhouse apparently. Irritating as I was trying to put the car back together following some frantic undersealing.

Tomorrow is going to be a logistics nightmare I reckon. I'm meant to go in tomorrow to Mahmouds to have the Micra seen to. That means that 2 of my cars will be there, I am starting an exciting* new job tomorrow that is 5 minutes around the corner from Mahmouds, so I'll have to drop the Micra off and hope that at least one of the cars will be working when I finish work. If both of them are finished, then I'll take one home (probably the Merc) and jump a taxi the next day to pick up the other car.

Posted

^ hope it all works out ok, mo. Does sound like a hectic day ahead!

Cheers. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. New job is nowt to write home about, its minimum wage (again) and working in a factory. Joy. But needs must.

I'll (hopefully) be happy to get my Merc back to rude health again. Tax is due though. I guess my final dole money can go towards that.

Fusion mission continues. Turbo rebuild kit ordered, turbo stripped and awaiting new parts.

Will it go back together OK? Will it work? Will they have sent the correct parts? Tune in tomorrow to find out...

What turbo is it? Doesnt look like a Garrett. Is it a Ku Klux Klan effort on these?
