That's the latest toy. 2.0 petrol, I think they're a V6? Anyhow nice drive, quiet and smooth with a pretty nice growl when it digs in.

Strange spec as cloth seats and manual box, but it's not half tidy, has shit loads of Jag history, a brand new battery and he had it valeted inside and out for me which was nice.

Obvs. it'll be for sale!

Used to have stacks of old/modern/modern-ish Volvos in their yeard and could be worth a try?

My old knockabout place,Rednal airfield

Used to have a ball on the old airstrip before Lindstrand bought it...........twat

Didn't he have a balloon company in Oswestry?

Posted

yep, thats where he and Branson made the Round The World (nearly) balloons

All the "Lads" used to go there and have the sort of motorised fun you can only have on an abandoned airfield

Linstrand slapped up a huuuuge hanger for his own airship

There's a cracking paintball arena and outdoor karting track down there now

I remember the gokart track, didn't use it but saw it when I used to call on some businesses in the area.

Yes! Should need no encouragement from me, but I have to say that is GR10 and needs pride of place in the SVM fleet. Especially being an early one with the Glasgow registration.

Last on the road 1992!

I went for a drive in the Subaru van last night (~25 miles round trip).  It ran fine, if not particularly quickly, but the heater was having to fight against a freezing draught coming in from somewhere on the passenger side.  A look in the footwell when I got home revealed a large hole in the back of the headlight bowl.

I was out of P40, so stopped off on the way home from work to buy some.  The local hardware shop had two choices - a 250ml tub of P40 for nine quid, or the same quantity of Silver Hook's version for a fiver.  I'd seen Silver Hook stuff before, but never tried any of it before.  Well the filler is fugging brilliant.  Way easier to work with than P40, dries a lot quicker, and bridges holes just as well.  I might have to try some of their other shiz if it's going to be better and cheaper than the established brands.

You've got until 2.00pm tomorrow to have either purchased that Volvo, or at least to have arranged to buy it. The clock starts.....................................................................................NOW.....................

2.1 (2099cc) V6 Cavette. Muchos thirsty. About 160BHP. I know a bloke who has had one just like that for years, and it's caused no major headaches.

I actually got some stuff done on the cortina today. Well I spent an hour doing stuff and 2 hours gob shiteing to my mate. Bottom line is it's back on 4 wheels and I'm looking for someone to finish the work. . You think that'd be easy right? Wrong . Surprisingly difficult to pay someone to work on an old car. I probably won't mot it until spring but it'd be good to know it's ready to go.

My neighbour has sent me these photos. The bastard.

Early 343/340 1.4 B14 renner chained pushrod.

Great cars in rubber band or Mauel.

Nice colour too. I have a Haynes and some front floor trays gratis if you take it on.

Finally replaced the valve lifters and the (fairly expensive) rocker arm bolts I mentioned previously. Everything went smoothly, but plenty of people giving me stinky looks as they drove past, kerbside cowboys are obviously frowned upon.

Hopefully this will be my last bit of engine maintenancey work for a while, winter is definitely on the way, sharp frost this morning and spraying brake cleaner on my already cold hands was not a pleasant experience. However the engine now runs smooooother than I've ever known it, coupled with last week's tweaking of airflow meter potentiometer and lambda sensor, new lifters mean no more tickticktick at idle and the engine seems to pick up just a bit quicker when pulling away.

Next job is front suspension, wishbones, steering damper, ARB and all manner of associated fun, that will be a hire a lift job though.

Just dosed windscreen surround on Ovlov with "Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure" in hopes of curing minor scren leak.

If any mechanic is wary of working on a cortina they really should be seeking a new vocation.

^Absolutely.....Lots of local blokes fall over themselves to do stuff on my Morrises in preference to another MOT job on a babyvan or EML on a 3 yr old BMWotsupwithitnow....

It's all that old car don't know what I'm getting into bollocks. I can understand that with welding but I've done all that (I think)

None at all, Chris!

In between the rain I have tried to fit a stereo to the civic. Tried three different ones to no avail.

After poking it with a multimeter I have found that the ground isn't working.

Where would this terminate? Would it also be the cause of the wipers playing silly buggers?

seeming as most places now have young parts fitters NOT mechanics the old ways and knowledge are usually not taught as how often would they work on a cortina vs how often would they work on a mk3 mondeo, and you cant fix a cortina with a laptop

I'm guessing it's for sale then, or does the Missus like this one?
