It's a piece of shite. Of course we like it.

You carry a 6mm Allen key?

Heroic.

It's the only car in which I feel it wise to carry a comprehensive tool kit. And the service manual. And a fire extinguisher. Unfortunately it only looks like a Nissan.

Took the Vel Satis into Norwich this afternoon to buy a new telephone.  Started it up to come home and it flashed up a "fuel injection system fault" warning message along with its usual "Sensor fault and "SERVICE" messages.  Then it proceeded to go into limp mode, which made the journey home somewhat tedious as I couldn't get past the dithering old biddy in a Corsa C who was in front of me most of the way back.  Strangely, limp mode also made it idle higher than normal (1,000rpm), although touching the brake pedal dropped it back down to 700.  Anyway, I got home in the end, and at least it didn't overheat.

Once I got home I dug out the code reader and plugged it in.  The code reader didn't have a clue (showed that there was a fault, but then said "N/A" when I interrogated it further).  This wasn't entirely unexpected, as it couldn't communicate with the DCi Scénic either.  I restarted the engine to see if that'd help, and noticed that the injection warning wasn't showing any more.  Took the car for a blat up the road and it was no longer in limp mode.  Although I did notice the gearbox is hesitating a bit between 3rd and 4th under hard acceleration - I wonder if that's what the sensor fault is.  Oh, and because I'd thrashed it, it decided it was going to get hot again, and I had to pull into a layby for a minute to let it cool down.  Still, at least it's out of limp mode for now.

I had a car like that once......

I gave up and bought a car from 1990. Never been troubled since!

Starts, stops and goes wherever I want to go... Never flashes up any messages because it can't. Gr8.

That velsatis sounds like bridge fodder wuvvum. That's the kind of thing that would bring a renault technician to tears.

The fuel injection fault + limp mode is what mine used to do. It had been to Renault numerous times with the previous owner but they couldn't fix it. I found when it did it, if you turned it off, took the key card out, locked then unlocked the car and restarted it then it would go back to normal. It was annoying though.

The subsequent owner finally got it fixed. It had a new pump costing mucho dinero.

Well it's safe to say that mine won't be getting a new pump.  I'm not going to start chucking vast sums of money at the thing.  I might take it in to my usual garage to see if his funky Snap-On code reader can communicate with the car, and also to see if he might be able to find out what's up with the cooling system, but that's it.  If he can't, I'll cut my losses and flog it on as it is.  It'd be a shame though as it's a really nice car to drive when it's behaving itself.

I went to a Renault drive day many years ago at Wakehurst Place. Drove a few cars including the vel satis round a given route. Decided it was brilliant but definitely not to be trusted beyond its warranty period - probably not unlike my C5 HPi.

I have decided that computers in cars are a bad idea  - they through up spurious imagined faults and sulk until you tell them it's all in their imagination. Then when there's a real fault they won't tell you anything, but will still sulk. Bloody useless they are- why do the powers that be think that letting driverless cars on the road is the way forward. I  predict hard shoulders littered with cars that have failed to proceed when their brain has encountered a wasp to the windscreen.

I was of the same mind with my C5  - unfortunately the fuel pump went whilst on holiday in france. The pump cost more than the holiday! And did the new pump make the nasty little warning messages about anti-pollution faults go away. Did it heck as like.

BMW chucked in for speculative MOT Test.

Me :" Did It Pass?"

MOT man:<< Devon accent>>....Sucks teeth..... "She's gone down heavy Boy"

Not as bad as it seems, the main failure point being perished suspension bushes plus a few electrical preblems. Happy with that from a 30 year old car bought blind off  ebay that's not been on the road for a decade.

Went to look at this for a fellow 'shiter as it was a 15 minute drive from DOSS_HSE_DUGONG.

Very solid for its age, it's a bit too expensive and not running well enough for the money the vendor is asking.

Nice enough bloke, mind - he was quite happy for me to poke round it. 33k from new and an autobox - RAPID.

Just delivered a van.

To a major Hollywood movie star.

What a very strange day.

Derskine that Tina is da sex, how could you think people wouldn't like it?

I think a nice period paint job would finish it but it's really nice as it sits, well done for putting it back on road

Personally, I don't like them in red.

Van? Bit of an odd choice for an Actoooorrrr, isn't it?

Yup. Wants it to DJ in, between takes.

A few months of filming going on so now he has a van to play with.

Celebs can be strange fellows sometimes. But some can be just the opposite to what you expect. I occasionally deal with some and the ones I come across are pretty down to earth really.

At the end of the day, to some, it's just a job but it's more in the public eye than most.

Remember the little warning light of doom on mg BX? It lie. It's sitting at 75 degrees C. Along with the now non functioning n/s passenger door central locking is another citroenesque electrical malady to put up with.

Hey, BXs are fun. They just challenge you to see if your awake.

I'm glad you've got the cooling issue sorted Andy,  it should* be as reliable as a 405 as in my experiance the LHM system might drip a bit but is less work than worn out springs and power steering gear and nicer to deal with than DOT 4 brake fluid.

At the end of the day it's a 26 year old French car,  if it didn't have a few faults I'd buy a lottery ticket.

Two cars i am looking at finish on ebay today. The one I want most finishes an hour after the one I really like but not as much as the one that finishes after it.

Therefore i cant bid on the one that finishes first as if I win it I can't afford the 2nd one but if the bidding goes too high on the 2nd one in the last hour i will have missed out on the 1st one.

I know exactly how this is going to pan out.

At the end of the day you will have won both of those cars and will be financially crippled?

I've got my eye on a honk of shite on there that finishes today as well. Only issue is that the only other bidder is a zero-rater so I'm probably bidding against the ghost of Nelson Mandela or whatever.

I assume yours is one where the seller has listed it without a reserve and then changed their mind so set up a gmail account and a new ebay id.

Looks really dodgy that, I always just get a mate to bid it up a bit.

If any two stroke pervs are after a rd I have just the one, its alot of money but if anyone is serious I will give a generous shitters discount, that is the general public who I don't like price.

That is HYPER FIT. However, unless you are giving a 90% discount, my fimances dictate that AAHM OOOT!
