^^^^ATS!?

I wouldn't trust my local ats with a bairns trike ni'mind with a car!

I used to work for them and my nearest one (that I didn't work at, sadly) are brilliant. The job itself was shit and one of our managers was a right knob warbler, but I'll give them their due they were extremely good to me when my wife was in hospital for a few weeks and generally as a company I rate them highly. We were never told to try and rip people off and sting them for stuff they didn't need. Obviously things may have changed now (it was about 22 years ago I left) and some peoples experiences may* vary.

*Edit: Took the Polo to the garage, using the slow route mostly down the lanes 'just in case.' It ran fine apart from a small blip as I pulled onto the motorway, bloody typical! Still, at least it didn't break down and is now in the hands of people who know what they're doing.

Re Ats, I used them once as I needed tyres for the bird's Clio-they were cheapest.

turned up, chap asked where I wanted the car jacked, removed the centre caps carefully, used a cloth on the face of the alloys and refitted the wheels using a torque wrench.

they also let me into the garage so I could have a peek at the suspension/brakes (i'd bought the car 2 days prior)

I thought that most agreeable

Well, the Cavalier has gone. Shame but it wasn't being used so was a waste really, and the previous owner had been threatening to scrap it so it's done ok really.

You'll hate the replacement, (not just because) it's actually quite grotty looking and far from perfect, nor even the only-one-you're-getting-for-now-Cavcraft-trademark-shit picture....

corsa 1.4 sport April 2014.jpg

...but what a fucking laugh to drive. It's a 1.4 'Sport' (yeah, I know) which has an Ecotech engine, not the 8V I thought it would be. It sounds and goes like a miniature Subaru Impreza and I may (or may not, officer) have had it sideways several times. Anyhow, that's 4 in the household now.

I am off to this shortly http://www.ottervaleclassiccarauction.co.uk/ottervale/April_Auction_Entries.html Plenty of old shite on offer over 2 days. What is it with the admission only by catalog 10 quid to go and bid on the shite. I suppose it might deter all the old gits that turn out just to poke through someones  crap

Tempted to go along to this tomorrow as I've never been to a car auction but that entry fee is a bit steep, is that normal?

I kneel at the alter of the 3 spoke alloy!never in the history of mankind has an original alloy been less appropriate for a vehicle!

Top work!

As an aside, there was a rwd redtop one on eBay a few weeks back-looked a right laugh and well nailed together..

It's about a 3rd of the cost of a football ticket, with significantly more chod.

Look at it this way, 2 cups of Starbucks ratspiss or a chod fashion show?I know what I'd pick:)

Hmm you speak the truth! I don't like coffee or football either so even more compelling.

After the possessed Rover was adjusted so it passes the MoT emissions test, of course it didn't run right.

I have taken the liberty to re-adjust it, and now it once again kills everything in its vicinity smoothly and with the sound of Toutatis himself.

Used to have to do that with my Metro GTa. Ran like crap but passed the emissions. Adjusted back at the pez station 200 yards up the road from Larne MoT centre.

Degreased the underside of TV2's engine and transmission this afternoon, in preparation for an attempt to source its oil leak, and to gauge said leak's true severity.

Imagine being covered in whipped cream and having your dream lover lick it off. Well, degreasing the lower parts of a car's engine and transmission is nothing like that at all :(

In an amazing stroke of luck the owner of the car I won who lives 151 miles away from me happens to be in the next town on from me this weekend so is giving me a lift to his tomorrow to pay for and pick up the car.

Expect a full collection thread tomorrow, there will be live collection capers happening on Twitter @PMozzy - if you happen to be on Twitter.

I will also try to do a live collection thread here, but I'm not sure how my phone will take it and it may just throw a strop and refuse to admit it has 3G signal.

Had some lad round looking at my Doblo today. Took him an hour and a half to decide that he would buy it. Then he mentions he has no cash (!!!!!) and asks how he can pay me. You decide how you want to pay numb nuts. Gets his phone out so that he can do an online bank transfer. 'OH SHIT I havent got my card reader' he remembers. Theres piss all signal at my unit anyway. I suggets he leaves a deposit and comes back later. Except he's only got £30 on him which he needs to buy petrol to get home. So he fucks off saying 'i'll be back tomorrow with the money'. I bet!!! Idiots man. I thought I had strategies to weed out these underage communist woodlouse fondlers, but once again I got PLAYED! Damn it!!

This is why MoT exemption is a bad idea.

^ Nothing is idiot proof to a sufficiently talented idiot, so I'm guessing you managed to bag one of those.

Speaking of idiots, U-Pull It Inverkeithing is run by them. Popped back today with Andy CMS to liberate more 940 spares. He had rung at 8.30am and was assured it was still there. Got to the yard to find the moron behind the desk didn't have a clue what was in or out but happily relieved us of a quid each to check for them.

It wasn't there. Processed this morning apparently.

Fuck didn't quite cover the level of irritation at finding this out but it's fair to say we won't be back.

Fortunately Paisley Auto Breakers once again came up trumps with the necessary parts in the right colour so more bits and bobs can be fitted.

They charge YOU a pound to tell you what they have and havent got in stock???

EDIT why did you both have to pay a quid??? What happens if your mate doesnt give a shit if thay have a volvo in stock or not, is it just you who has to pay in that case?

The quid is an entry fee to UPI, think they paid a quid to check the stock themselves!

Well I wouldn't bother really. I spent the day there today and did buy some interesting old crap mainly old maps from the 50's and 60's for a couple of quid each. I also found a build manual for a Fairthorpe electron minor that was sold to a police officer based at the police station in windsor. Dated 1959 it has all the invoices when he bought it and a guide from the 1959 motorsport show. I also scored a lovely pair of lucas mirrors that are green tinted they should look good on the Hotchkiss. I had a look at what is on offer tomorrow and all the spares and garage equipment is rubbish and not worth bothering with. The cars are also not good there is some serious rot in the 1/4's of the TR5 and the Alvis that I had high hopes for needs a complete re-trim and a full body resto very poor with a guide of 28 to 35 grand. Cars should go through about 3pm So I may go back if I get home from collecting my maestro in time. If you really want to go and don't mind getting there late (around 3) I have a catalog and a spare pass to get in. PM me for a contact number.

I have met shiter Ratdat and relieved him of a welding machine.  I have also perved just a little bit over some of his collection and Mum got mugged by his cat.  Lady (presumably) Ratdat appeared briefly too,  but disappeared to do whatever it is people in cat-print aprons do.

That's it LP! We had to check it ourselves and fork out the quid entrance fee for the privilege. They can cram it.

Thank you, that's very kind.  PM duly sent.

Just spent some of the afternoon brushing lots of Hammerite Underbody Seal under the Rover's rear wheelarches, the towbar frame and some scruffy bits on the underside of the boot floor.  It's great stuff to work with, it's so thick and greasy it sticks to everything, needs minimal prep and doesn't drip.  My sort of paint.

Looks heaps better now and it's also nicely cleaned up and protected.  The wheelarches were full of crud I hadn't seen and for some reason there's a rubber seal doing nothing fitted around each arch - apart from the one Mr B welded up - and all it seems to do is trap mud and hold it against the wheelarch lip.

Just need to sand down the primered patches on the bodywork and apply the paint I bought earlier this week and it'll look a lot better.

I've been up since 3.30 this morning.  The reason being that I had to get to Fareham to pick up my new daily (another French diesel - my reasoning being that if I keep on buying them, sooner or later I'll come across one that lasts more than two weeks) and then up to Kings Lynn in time for the classic auction.

Didn't quite work out, what with the taxi driver getting lost (he did at least have the decency to turn off the meter after the third U-turn), the M25 being bad and me being a twat and turning the wrong way down the A3 after pulling out of the services, but I got to the auction by about 2 and got to perv over all the CX's (including a lovely Prestige and a gold Familiale C-matic that was the absolute spit of my old one, albeit without the cracked paint on the roof) and the red Renault 6, which wasn't immaculate but still a metric f*ckload cleaner than mine.  The 120-miles-from-new Volvo 340 made about five grand, despite being a 1.7 and having a dent on the front wing - I didn't stay to the end so didn't see what the OMGBARNFIND 202-mile Renault 5 Campus made.  That red and yellow Winnebago thing that's been hanging around for ages sold (apparently) for 200 quid, which is a proper barg for someone with the means to transport it and the space to store it (so not me then).

You lot probably get bored of my self pimping but as i was out and about in my Civic today I decided to take my camera with me and take some photos at the farm where i grew up, I really do love this little car but I'm sticking it up for sale next month to pay for the Cortina's bodywork, that will be a sad day but needs must.

Should make decent coin. There seems to be a fairly strong market for Mk1's.
