The Maxi does look very cool, but that's no reason to own a car, and most sensible people would disagree anyway. This is the only pic I have of it.

I reckon the Wolzcrab might be a better bet. I think there's a good chance of profit in it, the interior is FAR tidier and it only has four gears to try and find. I'm going for another visit tomorrow so I'll let you know how it pans out...

In other news, one side of the Disco is solid again. I'll be spending tomorrow morning soaking the new metal in zinc primer, Vactan-ing some slightly rusty panels and then it can all be put back together again. Nearside still needs doing but that can wait a bit.

Got a bit more done on the new gaff this afternoon. My mate Jamesy is tiling the kitchen, and doing a damn fine job, despite the walls and floor being none too straight.

He was swearing a lot, so I got out of his way, and had another rummage in the garage. Last week I found a shite-tastic music centre thing with a cassette DRAWER. I gave it to another mate who likes such things. Today I found:

13 inch wheel and new tyre, not flat.

I then found 3 boxes up in the roof area, 2 of which were full of cookery books and some shit BBC lifestyle magazine from the early Noughties. Dozens of them.

However:

If there's anything shite in them, I shall make like Trigger and do a bit of scanning.

If so they can FRO, if I want to weld a half full petrol tank in the rain with my welder sat in a puddle crudely wired up to a lamppost via a daisy chain of no less than 5 extension cables while smoking a fag I will.

If you do you could sell tickets to watch that.

Soon get your course money back.

Honey Badger, have you dipped the ATF, does it look horrible and brown or a nice red? Might be worth having a go at changing the fluid, get the proper Honda stuff from somewhere like Cox Motor Parts, try 3 litres first which will cover a box drain and cost about 30 quid. The torque converter holds about the same so usually best to wait a bit and change again.

Thanks for the advice, I had the autobox fluid changed less than a month ago for the DW-1 Honda fluid, so it's still nice and red, as was the fluid before the change, I'm going to get hold of another 8 litres and give the box a good flush using the ramp at the car club at work, drain it after work, drive home and back and drain it again after work the next day, hopefully 3 flushes within a month will help it last a little longer.

I'll try clearing out solenoid Valve A filter as well, I was going to replace the gasket and filter but £35 quid for a gasket seems a little steep.

It's a shame cos the accord coupe is a lovely car. Is it the v6?

Aye it's the V6, nice car, great engine, shit gearbox!

The Honda manual boxes are so good it makes you wonder what perverse marketing retard thought it would be a good idea to only offer the V6 with an autobox.

Having had two Stobart wagons under me tonight collecting containers i just hope your a damn sight better than them, from experience almost every Stobart driver I've come across at work can not line up for shit, I'll be lifting the container up and down on their trailer and they will just stand there staring at me expecting me to gantry my crane with a 30 ton box hanging inches from the back of their cab. It's bloody hard work sometimes!

There's a good chance they are our night drivers, collecting containers from Felixtowe for us day drivers to deliver in the morning. Most of the night drivers are Pole or Romanian and speak itte or no English. Its very hard to explain to them what they need to be doing!

Cavette, We are working for O'connors in Widnes but are based at the "OMG NEW" Stobart/O'connors site in Stoke. Bringing containers up by truck is half the cost of the train, apparently.

Triumph acclaim? I have never owned nor driven one, nor have i known anyone who has had one nor have i even been in one, but that is what came to mind on seeing it. I was 6 when thry stopped making them ffs. Strange the shit you know eh?

Acclaim was the first car that sprang into my head too and I own one but that still doesn't mean it's right!

I thought J tin myself, but I'm not sure of what J Tin. It might be a trailer wheel, I suppose. You can pop round and take it if you wish, Trig. It's only 478 miles with a wet bit in the middle from your Ipswich to my house :D

Posted

Does the Uno share those steels with the Panda?  Because I thought it was a Panda steel at first, then dismissed it in favour of Bucket Rover/Triumph Acclaim.

Yep, it's UNO. Amateurs.

Went to my mate's first thing to crack on with the Disco. He was asleep. So, I headed to the Wolzcrab for a final viewing. The car sales chap who's yard it's in had buggered off to look at cars. FFS. Went back to my mate's, got him out of bed and have been rust treating and primer-coating nice, shiny bits of metal (and the surrounding older metal, hence the rust treatment). Plan is to add a top coat of Tobacco Leaf (as I have some sitting around and the bits I'm painting are pretty much out of sight) then some anti-corrosion wax. Not sure why I'm bothering really. The chances of this vehicle surviving more than a handful of years is pretty minimal. More rot is lurking!

With the temperature being very, very low lately while still being lovely and sunny, work on sorting out the Princess is slow.  With some help from a friend we got the replacement bonnet rams fitted, got the new seats and carpet into the house for cleaning and let the high side of the suspension down so the car sits level now and is slightly better to drive, even if the exhaust does catch on the drive entrance.  I should add I'm only driving the car around the block to keep the brakes from seizing up and to get some warmth in the cabin to keep it dried out, top speed of about 5mph.

I'm hoping it's not too cold over the weekend as that's when I'll next have help to swap the displacer over so I can get the suspension sorted out.   It really is cripplingly cold at the moment here when it comes to trying to do fiddly stuff like undoing bolts.  No fun at all working outdoors in the winter.

I went and had a look at a 1977 Scimitar GTE  today It was advertised to the scimitar owners club as being free...  in reality I think the sellers quite keen to get scrap money for it, If its not gone in the next few days it will certainly go for scrap.

It requires a bit more work than I'm prepared to take on at the moment, but I thought I'd stick up a post on here in case anyone fancies it,

Its Chamainge White Automatic, with Power Seering, Electric windows, On Dunlop wheels,

In my opinion Its certainly savable and not a complete basket case. The paintwork is surprisingly good, few small scuffs in places but nothing too bad. The interior is pretty much complete in reasonable shape, would benefit from new carpet and a proper clean. The engine has a few nice bits, tubular manifolds and stainless pipes suggest its had a bit of money spent on it in the past. The wiring has been altered and the fuse box is a replacement Durite affair relocated into the engine bay, The keys are in the ignition not sure if the owner has the paperwork for it still. It came off the road following a power steering fault ( the rack is in the boot.) but it will also need some welding to both outriggers before going back on the road I didn't get right underneath for a proper look as I was on my way to work!

The owner will leave it a few days but if no one comes forward soon It will go for scrap, which would be a shame.

I've got another contact number for Colin who is helping the owner to clear the barn pm me for details.

PS its in Storrington West Sussex,

Sadly not for me, but out of interest what is scrap money for a non-metal car like. Obviously engine and chassis like, but does it make a big difference?

No Idea, The big local yard is GW Bridges at Crawley they will take Scimitars and 3 Wheelers as stock for the yard but I've no idea what (if anything) they'd pay for it. I think anyone turning up with a trailer £50 - £100 will easily secure it. It is worth £5-800 in spares as a minimum.

My mate got £120 for his Espace, and they collected it! Not bad for a plastic fantastic.

Anyway, back to more recent news. Discovery is very nearly back together again but Wolzcrab plans have been derailed after I checked my bank balance. Oh dear.

Sorned the e34 as I'm really enjoying pootling around in the sierra. Sorry bmw buffs but I find it more fun to drive. Keeping a beady eye on the coolant level due to the rad leak, but on local commuting duties it hardly uses any. It's so solid despite its 22years I'm feeling the need to break out the dynax s50 cavity wax but it isn't really the weather for that at the mo.

Got to drive the Wolzcrab today. Absolutely gutted as third gear synchro is farked and the clutch bite is right on the floor. (fluid level ok). That means it isn't a bargain and is more work than I want to take on. I'll try and get some pics up later if anyone is interested. Will still make a good project.

However, I have a Nissan Leaf to play with, so that'll keep me busy until the battery runs out. Must resist insane electric motor acceleration...

Not sure if news really.......Vauxhall are recalling Astra 1.7 diesels for head gasket problem. Definitely goes back to 2009 as we have a few on my fleet but not sure if it goes back any further. Albert may know more......

I don't think you are going to get any joy if you fetch up at your local vx emporium with a poorly mk3 though

Found myself reviewing the reliability of my cars past and present.

Polo - melted its points, overheating issue facilitated having to stop and let things cool down a few times.

Golf - brakes failed on the first drive home.  Many electrical problems.

BX - pedal box failed and an hydraulic pipe split, though to be fair it did still get me home and never let me down otherwise.

Princess - many, many failures to proceed.  Started out as the least reliable car I've owned, very nearly still is, but still my favourite.

ex-Skattrd Maestro - conked out on the way to work once, for no obvious reason.  Never did discover the reason.  Worked fine afterwards.

Ledbury Maestro - NOTHING.

From this I can surmise that the Maestro is the best car ever made, the Princess isn't and VWs are dangerous.

Here's an initial Wolzcrab pic.

Front wings bubbling, sill ends on their way but still solid. Front passenger footwell soggy (but not pooling water like the Maxi was). It's a really nice basis for a rolling resto really, but I've got enough ol' shite to worry about.

For sale with this lot, not mentioned on the website at all.
