Fair play to you for keeping it as it should be!

.... Not like 'ringing kit', for Landies referred to elsewhere ;)

*added 'Lucas Smoke' for xtrawin

possibly, the details are published on the Tyneside branch of the Northeastern Club for Pre War Austin's (NECPWA) who arranged the show, currently the entry was open to all vehicles registered before 1st September 2000.

so next year, if the Rover 75 is either a 2001 or older, then yes, it will be able to be entered.

It won't be but the Shuma will :)

Been working my way through this book on the history of BLMC and the myriad other companies it morphed into over the last few days, highly recommended reading. It's a fascinating story and in retrospect so many opportunities were missed and so many mistakes were repeated it'd almost be funny if it weren't so tragic.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/147756067X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506539492&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=british+leyland+car+crash

I'd be tempted to buy that if I didn't know how utterly depressed it would make me. I can't think of any other company that, despite possessing world-class design talent, managed to empty so many clips into its own feet, over such a long period. The oft-blamed 'union issues' of the 70s were just the shiniest nails in a very large, ropey coffin.

Although the story of BL is ultimately one of failure, I wouldn't say the book is depressing, I think it tries to be even handed and it's an interesting read.

So, this happened this morning while my car was minding its own business, parked outside my house.

Fortunately there's no doubt about what happened, the driver has admitted liability and I have a witness, so hopefully there won't be too much shenanigans.  Damage seems to be confined to one door.

They must have hit that pretty hard to break the glass aswell as put such a big crease in it! How did it happen?

They reversed into it from a driveway across the road!

FFS!

A neighbor where I used to live once did that to me very early one morning. He backed his VW camper van out of his drive straight into the rear door of my Volvo 340. It didn't do anywhere near the damage you've got though but it still creased the door. Prick flat out denied it too, even after I watched him do it! And he drove off afterwards so I had to go 'see' him about it later that day when he got back.

Bad luck on the focus but at least the other person admitted fault and it sure it will be a quick easy fix. Accidents happen so they say!

Today I got my dads old A class out of my garage which was a real pain as it had been sitting for over six months with a flat battery.

I couldn't open the doors as the garage is so small and the battery is in a compartment under the drivers floor and I couldn't push it out of the garage because the steering lock was on and being a modern it needs electric for the steering to do its thing.

In the end I managed to squeeze in the door gap and get some jump leads on but the thing still wouldn't start so I had to get out again and use the battery off my motor.

Once out I managed to put some leads on the old battery then put a bit of juice across as it was the only way to trick the smart battery charger to charge the battery but it seems to hold a charge ok.

So once it had a bit of power it was time for an MOT which luckily it passed with no advisories.

And the added bonus I've now got my garage back and I decided to mothball my Z3 till next spring as I might as well keep it rot free (plus save a bit of money)

Only once, our neighbour had a runaway from their drive and then a visitor reversed out and hit the front door after I had replaced the rear!

Bought this today. Like everything I seem to buy, it's broken. Only cost me £20 though.

Apparently the wire snags up as it's feeding it. Probably the liner is knackered and reading up, it seems that the wire feed motor is taken from the welding transformer. This makes it inconsistent in feeding wire as it loads down. A mod to solve that involves adding an extra PSU to feed that motor directly.

Something to play with on my day off tomorrow. Once working, hopefully it'll be a cheap way to quickly start to give me a chance to practice sticking bits of metal together.

Oh I forgot to mention the best bit. The guy was similar age to me and ran a small garage with his dad fixing old classic motors. Had 2 rather nice Hillman avengers, he has a metro with a genuine 11k on the clock and his brother rocked up in an Austin Maestro 1300 - apparently his brothers first car.

I saw a Retro Rides sticker in the windscreen. Apparently went to the show earlier this year but mostly lurkers on the forums. Not been here though, so I told him to check us out. He seemed a proper Autoshiter.

Once you get a welder you wonder how you managed without it. So handy for loads of stuff . I binned my last welder because of liner issue it drove me fucking mental

I can vouch for the wire-feed mod. I had an old SIP, which is the same company as Cosmo iirc and the wirefeed was a constant source of problems. As soon as an arc struck the power surge slowed the wire feed and made an arse of your weld.

Its possible to get used to it and work around it, but you shouldnt have to be fighting your tools.

I used an old battery charger as a seperate power supply and wired up a cheapo motor speed controller from ebay to the feed motor and it improved things a lot.

Also, the tension on the feed roller is inconsistant too because its all just plastic and flexes slightly causing wire slip. its possible to make up a metal bracket to reinforce it and prevent this. the MIG welding forum has the details in the SIP section.

is the wire feed mod for when you have it cranked up or does it so it at lower settings? My sealey welder was the worst expensive thing I owned. Total shite, my new one is magic.

That was me and Mrs R last Friday with our BMW.

Mine was awesome at lower settings because the ebay speed controller gave a much better range of speeds, finer control of the speed and more motor torque at very low speed.

Yeah, I'll find an old bit of steel hanging around and drill a pair of holes in for that sort of money! Well at least give it a go first.

No, to be fair, I reckon she'd remove them carefully with a sharp blade. Maybe even give me a lift to hospital afterwards.

So when do you collect the Range Rover then ?

Completed a service on the Mondeo. £35 all in to replace fuel and air filter, 5 litres of 5w30 and a Bosch filter with some genuine motorcraft plugs as well.

Why on earth do people not bother doing this at that price?
