That's the one. The owner was a great chap spoke to him for a while, he has the estate in the background too.

Let us know how you get on with the Lidl wiper blades, I need a set for our budget motoring 206. Didn't even know Lidl did wiper blades.

Same here, I pulled the meriva's wipers off the screen to de-ice it this morning and the passenger side one split in 2 halfway down it's length.

I've not mentioned it to Amy yet... and she's not mentioned it either so obviously hasn't used the wipers or noticed

Got home, rinsed down the dollop and dried her (soft, fluffy towels, only the best for my baby!) then carried on Waxoyling bits... all round the outside of the new vents, just in case. Finished quite quickly so thought I'd whip up to the garage and swap cars over. Got dogs, remembered the keys for once and went and got the Kia out. Put the Bentley in the garage VERY carefully (it only just fits with all my mates junk in there and the Mazda) then put the cover on.

It was at that point I discovered I have hit the back of the Mazda with the front left wheel arch of the dollop.

Fucksticks X1000000000000.

My Audi 80 has had them fitted for 12 months now, very happy with them (especially as they came out of the reduced bin).

As you may recall Miss Slappy got into a 4 car prang last Good Friday. She admitted liability for the fact that she was too close to the car in front, and that isn't in dispute. However, it looks like because the claim hasn't been sorted further down. Cars 2 and 3 arguing over who was liable there she's concerned that her renewal which is due in a couple of weeks is about to be bumped up as the investigation is still in progress. In the meantime her insurers have declined to offer a renewal on that policy (not that she wouldn't be shopping elsewhere regardless), and she doesn't want to risk declaring something incorrectly in case it comes to bite her down the line.

As an aside, despite the insurer declining to do a renewal, they were still 1 of the cheapest quotes on 1 website, though she couldn't get a quote at all on Meerkats. bcuz insurance is a dark art...

I recommended going through a proper broker, but what do the good folk of AS think, especially on which broker to try?

Car is a 12 plate Fiesta, so nothing exotic.

Gotta be careful there, IMO.

Declining to renew is awfuly close to canceling - and having a policy cancelled is a huge problem for future quotes.

Speak to a broker, I would say, so that you can discus options without entering details into websites, which will never be forgotten.

I used them yesterday when it was pissing it down on the way in. They wiped the windscreen perfectly with no squeaking and no bits missed - which the old, worn wiper blades did none of. Would buy again. A++++++++

(I'm actually genuinely impressed with them, especially given the cost)

Might have a meriva for sale soon, amys having her sisters old Zafira b for very cheap (and its not caught fire yet, and may not as I took the glove box bulb out of its melted holder)

Posted

This is the 1.6 that goes like cold snot. Zafira is a 1.8sri though, so may have some forward momentum. Of course now we need to see if Amy wants it for £250, pay whenever... Sometimes I forget real life isn't autoshite

Actually now I remember there's a 2. 0 vxr meriva local to work that looks stupid but is probably quite fun

I can't remember if the zafs got the vvt engine. If it is then will be around 140bhp if no vvt will be around 125. The non vvt one in a zaf won't be much quicker in reality than the meriva I wouldn't have thought do to size and weight plus only having around 25bhpmore

Those central exit exhausts are a real pain when you're behind one in a 2cv as the fan draws it straight into the cabin!

Meriva car only 1.6 turbo apparently, 178bhp

Aaah. Sounds a bit rubbish then, unless the 1.6 16v is massively under tuned! I've only ever seen it drive up mums Road here and there, or parked up

Meriva is based on Corsa, so makes sense that it has the Corsa VXR engine.

There's a Meriva VXR local to me. Whenever I see it I think "Why?" then I think "You fucking legend"

Yep, corsa underneath, and combo van. Makes buying parts fun as combo stuff is cheaper! Amys has combo lower ball joints and drop links because they were 20p cheaper or something at the time

tell her to get anyhoo then decide which one to keep at a more liesurely pace

This could be your lucky day! If I could log into our car insurance to check a zafira wont be too bum rapey... and amy would show any hint of being interested in it at all...

Was half on my mind, it's a skip inside so 3 days of vulgaloring would possibly see profit anyway. Or buy it and go swap it with Billy for something stupid utterly interesting

I've already had her brother in law say 'you could get rid of your old car and drive it if Amy doesn't want it'... I nearly slammed his head in the boot

Pretty much! It's been on my mind for a while that a zafira would be a good upgrade, was thinking more Zafira A than B, but I'm not going to argue about a £250 known motor being waved under my nose, even if the front bumper has structural ford granada approved gaffa tape all over, one alloy is different to the rest, the interior is fucking minging... it's had a cambelt, MOT history is clean and it's not caught fire yet (maybe it will when Amy's driving it without the kids, that would be a result!)

She needs to decide pretty soon though, the Meriva needs a hundred quid or so spending on it soon, but I won't bother if we buy then and just flog it here for £300. Otherwise it gets money spent on it and we keep it a bit longer.

Our insurance renews on the 18th Feb though, can imagine getting bumraped a bit for the change, if I could log in I can start to assess the damage

A zaf B for 250? They are getting cheap.

It's family rates I think. Amys sis and hubby both have company vehicles now (him a bt van, her a car) so the zaf has been used on the odd rare occasion since november. That's why he said take it and pay later, it's costing them insurance sat there, as they can cancel their policy and not have one, plus tax. He fired it up after not starting it since mid december and it fired straight up and sounds smoother than the meriva...

It's also partly because he is 'one of those' car owners (BFG's Focus for £1500 thread, to him that would be reasonable). It's done 113k, to him high mileage. He says I could get the original alloy fixed so they match, erm nah, he wanted to put the broken bumper through the insurance, meh, no point...

So that, combined with it costing them money to not drive it, and they want it to go to a good home = bargain for us! Amy's not dead against it either, will get her to take it up the road asap to check she likes it
