Talking of RWD Volvos I installed a genuine VOLVO rear load blind in mine today. I removed it from my scrapper 240, it needed a bit of repair to the mechanism but it works great now. BOW DOWN TO MY RARE 240 LOAD BLIND, VOLVO COMMUNITY.

That is a rare thing. I've only ever seen one, which was fitted to a 240 Polar (Italian in origin, but on UK plates) I used to see in Deal quite often in the mid-2000s :)

700/900s are fare more likely to have load covers, some of which - including the one fitted to The Volvo - have a very useful integral parcel shelf :)

The BX has an extended parcel shelf, based on that of the hatchback (or saloon as Citroen called them). I'm not aware of any other estates with a parcel shelf (though feel free to let me know of any!). I much prefer it actually as you just drop it to the boot floor or leave it at home to carry big stuff, and it feels more secure than a roller-type load cover, which surely just says "I've got something hidden beneath me" as it's normally left in the rolled up position. Isn't it?

The Volvo's rear load cover is always kept in its extended state, unless I have big stuff to carry, as I prefer it that way :)

TV2 came with a load cover from new, but I removed it when I bought the car as it had stopped retracting years before and looked rubbish. I'm still trying to find an easy/cheap way of getting it to work properly again...

Micra has finally sold with guy coming to get it tomorrow.

Put about 300 miles on the Insignia and it is hateful. Is a CDTI SRI and manages to find bumps on perfectly flat tarmac. Why do modern cars need rock hard suspension? It ruins what otherwise would be a good car. Engine is nice and it is lovely to have the toys but the ride that makes you sick is not worth it.

This is why I enjoy using Skodas. They don't have rock hard suspension, yet the Superb handles :)

The Favorit & Felicia estates had parcel shelves fitted. In the favorit, It looked just like 2 standard hatch shelves back to back.

The rock hard suspension is one of the things i hate the most about my Mondeo, It's like driving a brick down Coronation Street.

Space cleared in the garage, Imp moved inside garage, boxes and other rammle piled on top of or slung underneath the Imp.

Proton was collected a couple of weeks ago, serviced, timing belt and other gubbins changed... just been delivered back to the house... £148.

Insurance swap about tomorrow, re-tax online and settle back into brown houndstooth moquette glory...

I R NOW OFFICIALLY CAVALIER-LESS

Roll on early-middle of next year when I can afford to buy another one.

*Also boat-less. Without a boat. So that's two barges gone in the space of a couple of hours.

You sold the boat? Autofive will be gutted - he's spent all evening riveting a chain onto an essex engine for you.

Speaking of Coronation Street, I drove the Herald down a cobbled street in Stockport recently and thought it was going burst apart amusingly like that one in Confessions of a Driving Instructor. On the way back I couldn't have exceeded 10mph. Forget speed bumps, chicanes and cameras - cobbles on residential streets slow traffic.

Apart from when you hit the brakes in the rain :!: Grandad www span a p6 180 and piled it into a parked car whilst mid pursuit in his time with the force, cheif inspector in the back was not best impressed

I wonder if you could pave a road with modern cobbles with an anti slip surface?

SCTSH_ANDY is using the 460 as his daily conveyance at the moment. His 9000 Carlsson has shat its slave cylinder, the clevis pins have elongated, and it's using oil like a Wartburg. 405 should be back on the road soon after being crippled by exploding ECU, injector and shit gearbox syndrome.

Meanwhile, he's been using the Volvo. He says he's getting 40 MPG from it. Yes.

Volvo 460 Turbo

SCTSH_ANDY rating : AYE

[The Ratings Explained]

AYE - This is the highest SCTSH_ANDY accolade that can be bestowed upon a motor vehicle. Usually reserved for pre 1998 Peugeots or Swedish barges with large turbos.

NOH - Any car which falls into this category is decidedly average and should be swapped for one of the cars above.

PESH \ SHET - You've probably bought a new car or a Ford, and as such, SCTSH_ANDY doesn't like you or it. See also: 'Citroen C4 HDi 92.'

SCTSH_ANDY likes Saab 9000s and dislikes Fords.

Therefore, his opinion ain't worth SHET. AYE! :-)

Most fast Fords elicit AYE or NOH. Truly vile, shitty Fords like the Mk3-5 Fiesta reside in PESH. It's all about which Ford you bring to the party.

Ah, fair enough then. Most 80's FWD Fords are PESH.

Surely there can only be one answer? It involves hammering...

 That film is almost autobiographical (you'd just have to edit out all the sex).

Despite the fact it was really cold out, I gave my fleet a wash today, as The Volvo was covered in five counties-worth of motorway muck and TV2 was covered in four weeks-worth of industrial fall-out:

Not a bad photo, considering it was taken using my smartphone. A candidate for the 2013 calendar?

FUCK!

I've got a mortgage!

Offer accepted on a new (first) hovel in Mistley, with a GARAGE. Rover 800 sized, as it happens.

At least 25 years of abject poverty beckons.
