Cumberland Street. 5102 building in the background. Apparently so named because that's the longitudinal position or something.

I was left AGHAST reading Hendry's 'Women' thread over on the open forum,

Not just at the theme, or some of the comments, but also at a few so called 'respected, long standing forum members' who I thought were - at least - decent human beings.  I actually found myself calling one of them a hoofwanking bunglecunt before closing the thread, and fortunately it now looks to have disappeared.

I appreciate we're a broad church here, which means I find myself in company that I wouldn't normally.  I thought that was a positive, but I'm now not sure.

Suffice to say next time one member breaks down, I'll be the first 'on scene' to point and laugh.

I wrote a reply but it was locked before I could hit send along the words of:

I started reading this thread and it started alright, went a bit shit so ignored it, checked on it again and ended awful.

So closed it, decided to not go into open forum again and went back to researching my new fascination - looking on eBay for what BL chod I want next. Sometimes I wonder if open forum isn't a positive thing on here.

I've said it before, but the open forum is a terrible idea. It has frequently opened up some utterly horrendous views and I'd prefer to live in blissful ignorwnce of them.

I would of been unaware of it all kicking off on the open forum as I don't really go on there. If you would rather not read some of the shit that is posted on there then just stay here. At least the crap doesn't get posted on here which is what we had before the open forum. There are a couple of decent threads on there maybe enough to tempt me once a week.

What "Open Forum"? I have never been on it and never will, just like to read threads about old shite cars, not about peoples personal stuff and shizzle. Wasn't that the original brief of Autoshite?

a hoofwanking bunglecunt

This is a truly excellent insult & deserves airing more often.

Just curious.... Who would that be?

Not this again.

If you don't like the open forum, don't go there. Please stop filling this thread (or others) with guff about whether it should exist or not.

Keeping it for the time being, especially as we're planning to move house soon. However I have fallen in love with the Dolomite Sprint. Luckily they're a bit too expensive for me at the moment. So it'll have to wait until I at least move house and my finances recover from that. The other advantage of moving house means more room for more cars. ;)

Dragged the 405 all the way to sunny* Perthshire.

It averaged around 34 mpg impressively. Definitely a long journey kind of car then.

Had a trial lesson with a local LGV/HGV training company this afternoon. Note The Volvo hiding in the background:

I like the shite technology/camera/hifi/non-car fixing stuff, the kind of thing that's in the same spirit as the main forum. As to the other stuff, if people want to post about about their personal problems, or how they're CONSIDERABLY RICHER (AND HAPPIER) THAN YOW then good luck, but I most likely won't read it. Like you say, if it keeps all that guff out of here then its doing a good job.

Please someone on here buy this, so I can buy it in a year or so time. I'm truly in love!

Daves news....

Nothing at all. Its all gone a bit boring for me of late....no fleet changes, the cars are all working fine, not requiring any repairs or interventions of any kind.....Just ticking along.

I browse LeBonCoin every evening and nowt really catches my eye....

Boring, but fiscally sustainable.

Fitted a new thermostat and rocker cover gasket as rain stopped paid work, while doing that I noticed a chonk out of the cam belt. Looks to be £50ish on ebay for a belt and tensioner, I'm sure the last belt was under a tenner...

Anyway flushed the rad as it looked grotty as well. Fingers crossed for no leaks

Volvo has a new dizzy cap. The old one had cracked around its mounting points. That and the new HT/king leads have bloody transformed it. Loads more power now, really have to be careful not to speed!
Still to do: antifreeze, idle screw adjustment, tyres.

Having provided near-perfect service after collection, the range roffler was sent to the mot station today. There were a few advisories from last mot to attend to, but I sent it a month early in case of other issues.

Result was a pass- one new advisory on all four suspension airbags. Tester commented that it was the cleanest p38 he's seen in quite a while.

Looks like it'll be staying with me for a while.

Sorry, no pics at the moment I'm in Riyadh arranging for a years direct supply of petrol. Much cheaper this way ;)

Exact same look as my old one - my brother killed the motor by 'stealing' it to go to work as he was late, despite a big fu** off sign on the dash saying the radiator hose was fubar'd so DO NOT USE! Little shit didn't even tell me after he limped it back home and abandoned it back in its place at my folks (I worked away all the time).

On trying to sort the engine, I discovered the entire windscreen surround was newspaper, filler etc..... and the rear inner sill p/side was an accident damaged bodged up crumpled piece of shit too.... so much for 'restored'.

I wasn't at home to do anything with it and after a garage raped me for doing sod all I lost faith and fragged the detritus......... :-(

Hankering after another every day since though - I truelly loved that thing (when it worked).

Exile news - 2 new tyres on the front of the SAAB after french trench shenanigans (how do you sodding spell that?) so raped a bit on that one......

Spitfire bits all found (storage nightmare) so assembled to go on and finish (yeah right) welding......

2500S - disgraced in the corner - 'rebuilt' gearbox locked in reverse, so engine and box out again soon. It may suffer a transplant in the shape of the Z31 turbo and manual box I have sitting in the corner....... or the 1GTT straight six up at a mates I'm so pee'd off with it.

Rover V8 - delivery this week - repair and fit tank, new fuel pump and wang it in for the test........

GF is being entirely reasonable about it all - but I suspect that is because her birthday is fast approaching and she's angling for a 'decent' gift..... I'm thinking she doesn't mean a recently repaired and tested SD1 V8 manual to waft/burble around in?

The cap and rotor arm seem to get ignored on these cars. Have a look at your old one for a date stamp, mine was the original from 1988! It was cracked and worn badly too.

I didn't bother changing mine in 6 years of ownership on the 940. It's a bit awkward to change being where it is and I was lazy.
