Absurb dealer scrappage marketing bollocks

Went for a drive as I couldn't sleep and drove past local Honda garage and had a double take so hard I nearly broke my frigging neck.

This is an immaculate 1st gen Honda Civic. It's f*cking spotless. There's a tax disc in the window from 1982. I doubt it's done over 10k.

The stickers read:

"We've Just Paid 2,000 For This Car" and "Look At This".

Date of Liability - 01 03 1988

Year of Manufacture - 1977

Cylinder Capacity (cc) - 1238CC

Export Marker - Not Applicable

Vehicle Status - Unlicensed

Vehicle Colour - SILVER

Vehicle Type Approval - null

I'm not too sure whether the dealer is claiming:

"Look at this, we've just bought this heap of shit for 2k, and you can also trade in your heap of shit for the same (although we don't actually pay 2k, the government pays half from the tax payer's coffers, so YOU'RE paying for it you thick, greedy twat), and then get a new 59 Honda Jazz so your neighbours will think you're loaded, honest"

or

"We've just bought this awesome shed find for 2k".

Either way, I'm a bit flabberghasted! I'm also tempted to go in and make them an offer - this is obviously a dealer owned car and they're full of shit, which makes me wonder why they're peddling it as just another 2k scrap exchange ...

Also saw this. A disgusting, 10 year old Renault/Nissan car, with dealer made dents in the back, and pink spray paint all over it. I nearly threw up, it was so old and horrible.

Yeuch, I wouldn't be seen dead in it.

There's loads of these dogshit excuses for capitalist greed near me, will try 'n' photo 'em all tommorow.

Seeems to be a common marketing ploy - Dutton Forshaw have a tidy 218D with fealer dents and foot marks all over it depicting the your old shitter is worth 2K off a Citroen" on their forcout - and Chorley Nissan have a Scenic with pretty much the same.

Date of liability, 1988 - doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would have an MoT and be eligible for the scheme, does it? Pop in and find out what the score is perhaps?...It'd be nice to think a dealer with some kind of interest in their older cars (and I thought this did apply to Honda as a manufacturer) would actually keep that to show how long the Civic has been going. After all, I don't think there are that many model names that have been in continuous production for so long.

That Civic looks lovely, and I bet it's about half the size of the huge new Jazz "supermini".

In most people's eyes that Civic is just an old shit heap, the only reason it's there is that it stands out more than battered '90s cars I imagine.

Here's one local to me

Bit depressing really, it's a JTD 130, so it has the warbling 5 cylinder diesel under its bonnet. I've always liked the look of the Marea Weekend.

I think it's infinitely preferable to the cars in their showroom (mostly C1-4s).

Posted

I'd love to be rich enough to go in and ask if I can test drive the Marea. I'd pay 2Gs for it

Guarantee that Civic has been in one of their showrooms or lockups for years. The Honda dealer I used to work for wayyyy back in the early 90's had a couple of Z600's and one was often on display in the showroom.Tragic that it is outside in the elements though, it's probably worth 2k anyway!

Seems to be a similar setup in a Toyota dealer in Worthing -horizontal surfaces covered in astro-turf. Nice.

That Civic is a sad sight, ignore the fact that it's probably been owned by the dealer for YONKS and consider what the local yob element might be tempted to do to something they are half entitled to think will be off down the metals yard next week. Will undoubtedly lead to more tidy old giffer-owned motors being chopped in against something plastic :(

I can't believe that Civic is left outside like that, it's just incredible  If I was in the area I'd march straight in and ask them what they're playing at  In one way it would serve tham right if someone did nick it......purely for compassionate reasons you understand  Anyone got a beavertail? :P

Civic is lovely - same year as our old one. Would be a terrible shame if any harm befalls it as the dealer seems to be saying 'this is fit for scrap'.

Someone needs to go in and find out the story with that civic. Funny its not been on the road since the 80s yet seems to have 2001 on numberplates which suggests maybe it has had them replaced for mot before trade in?Bloody crying shame if it does get squashed.A few local dealers here have the same ploy, one has a T reg immaculate polo with "this old heap is worth £2000!" plastered over it, another has a V reg skoda felicia with much the same written on it. Amusingly its not old enough for the scheme anyway.I've noticed that just about every advert on the radio at the moment is dealer after dealer going on about terrible old cars and the wonderous scrappage scheme. Load of bollocks.

I really really hope these proper classics are not destined for the crusher. Part of me thinks it's not possible, but the motor trade has a nasty habit of not seeing the bigger picture. I am sure that civic is worth at least close to 3 grand, so they are shooting themselves in the foot with that one. Starting to worry me now. I have yet to see a ford dealer with a Mk1 escort outside though.....

V plate is definitely eligible.......March-August 1999........That's 10 years to me! My doesn't time fly? That's still a new car to me!

That Civic is a stunner, Why would any muppet trade that it? (If they did that is).I remember my local Honda dealer had a Mint 1982 Honda Accord Hondamatic they would use in the showroom next to the new models, They used to keep it in a farm down the road where they stored there brand new cars, Had to pick it up once as it needed same paintwork.Funny enough I drove pass Inchcape Honda (Was Osbornes) in Colchester this afternoon, They have a shagged out Mk3 Fiesta Si on the forecourt with the £2000 crap on the side.

Nothing as shocking as the Civic in my local area.

Toyota garage has a taxi driver special Carina E out the front. Abbey Peugeot \ Robbing Cunts Peugeot \ Evans Peugeot (whatever the fuck they call themselves these days) on Washway Road has a Mk 1 Clio on a podium proclaiming 'WE GAVE £2000 FOR THIS!!!'

To be honest, the fact I'd rather have the billion mile Clio than any of the rhinoplasty bollocks at the front of their forecourt speaks volumes. It'd certainly have a nicer gearchange.

When at my local Shitroen dealership, picking up the inevitable parts needed for the C4, I snapped these:

Again, I'd have the Mongdeo.

I wonder how much a new car loses as soon as it drives off the forecourt? Or how much you could actually negotiate off one without the scheme? Either way, I bet it's more than 2 grand

 This one's great.

"Vinyl stickers are how much?? Fuck that, I'll use a pen"

From this picture, it looks as though Citroen have paid the whole 2k on the car, not just half and half from the government. Does this mean that we can expect the government to pay £1000 and then get another £2000 out of Citroen?:twisted::twisted:

"Paid" - you don't actually see any money, so it's more like 'part exchange'. In fact, you'd probably get 500 -at least- in a part exchange, including haggling etc.It would be awesome to go in with a car and try and get it for the 'scrap' car outside - displaying true horror when they presume you meant the 'new' monstrosities on the forecourt.

Citroen are offering upto £3000 off new cars (model dependent), so yes basically.

These pictures will make a great feature in a classic car mag in 2040.

I've just got back from driving around all the local garages looking for these scrap cars and I'm glad to say there wasn't any pimping themselfs of with the scrappage stickers but did find these.

This K reg Sierra was at the Ford Mian Dealers, Had scrap in big writting across the screen, Looked pretty clean as well apart from a few scabs, Only had 60k on the clock which looked like the first time round.

And around the back of the Fiat garage i found these, all in the trade in area, The Primera what a right heap with rusty arches and a stuffed in rear door.

The MR2 looked o.k but did have a few scabs on it.

Some harrowing images there for people like us, who enjoy the preservation of the obsolete products of these very twats who have been so desperate for this scheme to come into play. However it will get worse, even worse than the Civic, which holds the dubious honour of least deserving casualty so far in this crazy circus show, at least everything else noteworthy appeared to be in decline and uncaring hands.I understand the Civic may be a dealer owned car, but as others have pointed out, they obviously do not care about it and are encouraging the idea that it is worthless, so unless it is in a scrote free area it is being placed at considerable risk. These dealers are a desperate bunch, and by the time a few of them step back, take a deep breath and realise the game is not worth continuing they will have done some highly regrettable things.I like how the L-reg Mondeo has been "humanised" - "Citroen gave £2000 for me, and I am saying this because I am somehow a living thing, and, er, I am going to die by the look of it, maybe my eyes and some vital organs will be taken first, or maybe I will have the life squeezed out of me in the cruel jaws of the crusher while fully aware of what is happening to me"I bet that`s what the small print bit that goes across the door and onto the front wing says, the sickos!

I wonder what happened to that gold Vauxhall Magnum that some Suzuki dealer was holding to £2499 ransom on Ebay.

Genius. And cut-vinyl lettering is cheap too. Do it FO REEL.

That caused me to LOL in a way that annoyed ms_Bol somewhat (as she slaves over a hot iron while i piss about on the computer).
