Having schlepped this back up the road, the following is a list of issues:

1. Exhaust rear hanger has failed

2. Brakes could do with an overhaul - nowhere near the same bite and immediacy as the PH2

3. Front dampers are tired.

4. Shakes like a dug shittin razorblades under power. I suspect a Driveshaft is gubbed.

so more to do, more to do!

Took this up to the tame wrangler.

A Driveshaft was applied

The vibration was fixed, and I was a happy puppy.

Drove home, got about 3 miles out, and the car stalled as I approached a roundabout.

And again at the next one.

Gun it to get home. Hit a bump.

This happened.

It is now idling properly.

Bastard.

The whole backbox is off, right back to where it joins the midpipe.

Exhaust hangers are bespoke, and I have one in stock:)

Cheers for the offer.

Just need to find a backbox

I may be jumping the gun here, but you’re not having much luck with this Gallic turd are you?

I recommend listening to Junior and ‘Mama used to say’ on loop for 30 minutes. It could help. In the meantime, I will work on a display of fixing a Clio via the medium of dance. CU L8R.

Two big advantages of the backbox falling off..

1. It sounds awesome

2. The back end looks sweeeet without the chavzorst

Between first hearing the Clio and you actually arriving I should have time to brew 3 coffees!

Pretty much.

I could hear the good lady at the 2nd roundabout past Croy station..

She likes to utilise the F4R to its full potential.

And it continues!

Defrosting the car today, all ok.

Start driving, heater blower stops working, dash lights all flash and clock resets.

Car drives ok. Blowers still fucked.

Burd has just got it home, now it won't start.

Anyone any idea?

Electrickery not getting enough charge?

It's possible.. common points seem to be battery/earth straps or alternator..

Is there an earth somewhere thats dodgy. I had a carnival of lights on the Corsas rear light clusters when indicating and it turned out that 3 of the many prongs on a multiplug were bent and not making contact.

Also didnt Tickman nention something about his Clio wiring loom chafing somewhere?

Could be a dodgy earth strap - down in the near side arch that runs from the gearbox to the body

Can you just run an Earth in the bay as a test first? Might not even need to jack it up

Was planning on trying that with a jumplead first - at least then I can rule it in/out as required

There is also a part of the loom that earths onto the gearbox at the top to the rear, hiding behind the top gearbox mount.

I know that strap is an issue on the 1.2 16v - no idea if its on the F4R too. However probably is. I've seen it where that makes and breaks contacts as the engine moves on its mounts.

Which 172 is this? Ph1 or Ph2? If Ph2, is it climate control? Battery voltage dips on Renaults often conk out the fan in the climate control until a ignition cycle.

Not related but sort of my mate posted some pictures of his Clio so I got a screen shot.

Is a 182 and it says it's now exported. He had to sell it years ago for a deposit on a house.
