These two beauties are getting cut up and scrapped tomorrow.

The Escort is completely rotten and the Daf is missing bits.

There’s no paperwork for either car.

I have first refusal on anything that’s left before the grinder is fired up.

Can anyone see anything of value?

Wasn't someone on here asking for escort head lights a couple of days ago?

Van will have a crossflow engine which sounds quite 'OSF' but it might be some dismal low-comp 1100 effort or something.

I reckon stay at home and watch some telly overall.

ANY of the escort front end that it is solid and curved or complicated will fetch good money, even relatively small shell cuts of bulkhead etc. Stupid things like clips and plastic connectors can be a bitch to find so very popular with the concourse guys.

Posted

I would only take whatever can be removed using a screwdriver, small spanner, wire cutters or crowbar and can fit in the back of my wife’s C4 Picasso without leaking fluids or dumping chunks of rust.

Posted

Seems like the Escort might have a complete live axle at the back.

These are worth serious cash even to me, £100 minimum anyway.

But they are heavy, and you may well be a long way from Rochdale.

Bear me in mind though.

Any DAF bits that you can rescue are bound to be useful to someone on the DAF club - trim bits especially aren't easy to find !

Don't expect any financial gain from them, though. DAFfers are notoriously penniless.

Hiab that van onto a trailer then ebay, round headlights on it unfortunately so no good to me.

Seriously get it on ebay....

Edit where is it, if Surrey/ Sussex I'll find someone with a Hiab....

What's lurking in the brick building behind the daf

Ecky vans all round-eyes though weren't they?    As Tamworthbay says - anything small and easily removable well worth keeping if its not feasible to do cut-outs.   Windscreen? Back doors if not terminally rotten but they did that from new so probably not.....

Any DAF trim parts would be worth trousering I would imagine....

Posted

If it were me, Id get a trailer hooked up n 'make a day of it, n save as much as possible, if not it all....take the windscreen out of the escort, n any glass, front lamps grille n bumper (which the bolts are probably fused solid with rust)... the remainder will probably just fold up, but with grinder in hand you can cut it into manageable chunks to lobb into the trailer...

...mechanicals bits like engine, box, prop, front struts front crossmember, im sure are all resalable to the ford contingent, front struts n the like used to into modded Anglia 105E's back in the day...

dash, colum, doorhandles etc etc cn be extracted from the remains 'at your leisure' back home... it all depends on whether or not you have the space/can be bothered...

I’d be pretty interested in the Daf transmission to have a play with if it’s the same as the ones on a 66. The primaries in particular.

Looks like they've already gone, but the back bumpers are worth a few quid off the van, as others have said anything off the van is worth having if it looks reusable. i have a mate who seems to sell random bits of trim off Escorts for more than I used to pay for complete MOTed runners.

It's a 44, so the rear suspension and secondary transmission are very different to a 66, but the primary transmission is very similar (not sure if it's identical, though).

As said re escort

Grille, bumpers, frt screen, column, complete front & fear axles, prop.

Carb, dash top if unsplit ,don't bother with wheels, gbox or eng ( unless 1.6 ohv).

If the top of the waterpump is level with the block to head join then it's an 1100/1300 & not worth R emoveing if there's approximately an inch of block its a 1600 & will sell even if seized.

If the dome on the bulkhead (it covers the heater motor) is rust/dent free cut this out as big as poss.

If the grille in front of windscree is rust free unscrew this panel.

To be honest if you can remove/ store it as said take the van,

There's easily £200+ even in that for breaking prob easily £500.

Put it this way I'd drive down from Sheffield in the morning & haggle to £200 for it from those pics.

Great, thanks guys.

I’m gonna concentrate on getting as much off the Escort as possible. I doubt that any panels will be worth saving but glass and trim and odds and sods that come off easily will be removed and hopefully sold on Ebay for a little fun and profit.

Photos of my adventures to follow.

If you cant get the axle try the 1/2 shafts, sometimes they come out easy. £25 each

I'd cut the U bolts and lift the full axle. 3.89 diff £85. Any other diff £140 minimum.

Are Escort van and estate front ends slightly narrower than saloon ones, or is that something I imagined?

loon wings have a step that sticks out below the crease line whereas the van and estate have a less sharp step inwards to match the rest of the body line as they just used complete mk1 shells with only changes underneath and interior

the van and estate even use mk1 door handles whereas loons have flap style like cortina 3/crapi 2

Tbh it's plain daft not taking that van complete or taking Sheffield Cortina Centre up on his offer

Post event update.

By the time I arrived at the property the boys were busy cutting up the Daf. I know very little about these cars and the target audience for old bits is probably quite limited so I concentrated my efforts on the Ford. Having stood in a boggy garden for years most of it was terminally corroded.

Interior was knackered having been exposed to the elements.

Rear doors and lights looked mostly intact although a closer inspection revealed rusty door bottoms.

Nothing to see here.

Reg number.

In the end I got this lot:

Front screen, side and rear doors, rear lights, steering wheel and column stalks, bits of interior trim and the instrument binnacle. Sadly the front grille was damaged and the headlights were rusty.

This was the state of the Daf as I was leaving.

And the Escort didn’t fare much better.

Not a bad result for 90 minutes work and I must confess that I enjoyed the experience. I’ll clean up the bits and stick them on Ebay. I expect that the rear lights are unique to the van and estate and might be worth a bob or two.

Happy ending.

What happened to the side panels? I’d imagine they’d be worth a few quid, too. Looking online, it’s a lowly 1.3, and had been sat since 1990. Hope you make some ££ on the bits you grabbed!

The remains od the DAF actually looked solid

I would have thought that the front lights & front grill would have still been worth some money? I would have taken them as well & advertised them as for restoration.

However, I wish you well with the parts sales, You should do alright out of that.

The estates used different rear lights. I thought these lights were carried over from an older Ford van, but I can't find which one, so I may have imagined that.

Mark 1 and 2 estates both had this type :

Good work.

Keep us informed of how it goes on ebay.

I quite like an old ford, but I seriously can't comprehend how prices have become the way they are.

Glad I had an Escort in the 80's

They look similar to MK2 Transit rear lights...
