trigger Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I do like a stereo in a car but if it's got the original unit still fitted (like my last MK2 Escort for example which had the wanky Ford MW unit still in it) then I've got a JBL Flip speaker which I connect my phone too and that gives better sound quality than the factory speakers anyway, it's just a bit more awkward to turn the volume down quickly if you need too. mk2_craig 1
Split_Pin Posted January 23 Posted January 23 My RR has a non working radio at present but I dont really mind on shorter journeys.
Barry Cade Posted January 23 Posted January 23 ICE is as important to me as an engine. Never driven any vehicle without either music or a podcast on. Even on my bike I've got AC/DC pumping through the helmet speakers.
EyesWeldedShut Posted January 23 Posted January 23 If I have company then no ICE. We talk - old fashioned I know. If just me then Radio 4/Radio 2/silence for roughly equal bursts (maybe 30 mins), CarPlay and SatNav can feck off too. Child Bride & both Sprogs? Anything so long as it is LOUD. There's a sub-woofer in the SLK now V6 loveliness no longer SatNav to drive to the Post Office (2 miles, downhill, cannot miss it) 🤦♂️
MorrisItalSLX Posted January 24 Posted January 24 It just wouldn’t be right driving around in an old shitter without listening to a slightly wobbly cassette tape through the one speaker that still works. grogee 1
BorniteIdentity Posted January 24 Posted January 24 The Mondeo has a six CD changer (someone was doing well) but the tuner unit is dead. I was about to send it off for repair but, first, went to the local music emporium and spent £15 on 8CDs. I’ve now got everything from Brahms to Happy Mondays to The Dixie Chicks to Errol Garner to Joss Stone installed. Actually, it’s nice to be in a four-wheeled island; an oasis cut off from news. I miss the radio, but I’m probably better off without it. With CDs at £1-£2, a burner on an old laptop and an EarPod I can always stick in to my phone if essential - it’s not a pressing issue. I’m rather happy with the status quo. Just no Status Quo. I can’t fucking stand them. grogee 1

The radio works but it's not DAB and as everyone knows, every FM/AM station is unlistenable tosh. But it does have ipod connectivity. I've put my old 80Gb one in and I'm slowly working my way though every single track (probably 10,000+) in alphabetical order. It's a really interesting way of shuffling songs and helps me remember artists I'd forgotten about. I got the Mondeo in December and I'm still on songs beginning with 'A'. I do have an intention to fit DAB but I don't feel a pressing need, especially as that means listening to news bulletins and adverts on commercial radio. BorniteIdentity 1
Timewaster Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Of course you need a stereo of some sort. What else could you turn up to drown out otherwise troubling mechanical noises? BorniteIdentity and Marina door handles 2

I'm finding DAB much the same way nowadays. Like non premium YouTube, Getting to the point where there are more adverts than content. I wouldn't mind adverts if they varied but it's the same old "GOLD PRICES ARE AT AN ALL TIME HIGH".

The more you hear them, the more inventory that particular station/region has. They become tiresome very quickly but the stations either get a kickback or actually own that company.

I miss the thickly accented Bristolians telling me how I need my gutters cleaned and they can do it for a fantastic price or a local store that has everything for your same day DIY needs. You're right of course. BBC 6music used to be my go-to station but it's got a bit shit these days and of course still has the juvenile 'Newsround' bulletins every hour. I like Absolute 80s, 90s and Classic Rock but like you say - AdVeRtS. SiC 1
Leyland Worldmaster Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Car is much better at getting me out and about than my sound system back at base which plays music better than my car, innit.
Heidel_Kakao Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I totally agree about the radio being rubbish and full of adverts which is why I didn't care that the minidisc head unit I imported from Japan for the Corrado only gets the Japanese FM band of 86-95 megahertz. I will still be able to get Radio 2 should I feel the need to listen to the news.
Timewaster Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Some local businees adverts were great. For car dealers, printing firms, double glazing, local shops...Big productions with earworm jingles I could recall word for word 30 years later. Griffin print, Peterborough 5,3,5,3,0 get the number. Be in the know, 5,3,5,3,0 Voiced by Joanna Lumley! The last radio ad I endured had some awful smarmy simpering cosmetic surgeon telling me I could live my best look if I had a free consultation..... OFF! Barry Cade and SiC 1 1
Rustybullethole Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Currently running moderns of around 20 years young and generally banging out the tunes. I do have silent drives now and again to check in on mechanical racket though the see if the din has changed. When i'm running older chod it's very much a case of
catsinthewelder Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Don't have anything in the Dacia, tried a Bluetooth speaker but didn't really get on with it. Moderns need something on although I did switch it off to do a driving lesson on Friday and all the expensive sounding noises that entails.
