I teach agricultural engineering (fixing tractors, combines etc) and you’ll need some large kit to get anywhere working on these. Some of this stuff is mega expensive and rare second hand so I’d budget and start searching for bits you need. Many folks who use wheel lifts, 20 ton jacks etc need them for ever, so just won’t sell second hand.
 

I’d take an educated guess to set up working on big stuff your looking at spending a couple of hundred grand in kit, which most colleges can’t afford.

Not trying to discourage at all, but it’s a costly game. A telehandler that’ll lift a few tonne still is minimum 8 grand for example, and at that your looking 10,000 hrs plus so essentially “end of life”

I ran a small garage, and setting that up with used kit cost plenty. I’d guess 20 times more expensive for this type of stuff.

As a plant fitter for decades I'd agree a small fork lift will be useful but brings it's own problems if it's already had a life.

 I don't know if it's already been mentioned or if it applies to Stalwart wheels and tyres but some off road stuff has the tyres ballasted with a 50% water for stability on slopes, When I worked for the Forestry Commission in the 80's some of bigger stuff was water ballasted making an already heavy wheel way heavier to handle.

It also looks to be electric which need a powerful charger, I think our couple at work need 415v.  It also has bugger all ground clearance so won't go on unmade surfaces.

Ugh, I've just noticed the ad isn't even for the whole forklift - just the mast and forks. 

I guess a gas truck would be the thing to have, assuming that you don't restore these things in a field?

Or a relatively small diesel instead of gas engined, our plant shop has a 4 pot diesel Hyster from 1989 which has a jib rather than fork blades and will lift about 3000kg but weighs about 6500kg, - they aren't dainty.

I use one regularly and they're very useful for a large fleet but how often do you expect to remove and refit wheels?  Perhaps the money could spent on something you'd get more use from like a quality 3/4 drive battery impact gun.  Check the trolley is suitable for the tyre diameter and weight as well, ours is only suitable for pretty much standard wagon wheel and tyre combos,  anything bigger we get our specialist plant tyre boys to remove with a  8 wheel wagon fitted with a specialist hiab with an every which way grab.

Seriously I know we are being nice now and the OPs funding sources and business plan are none of my business, but as far as I can see HK is the entire market for restoring stollys as well as the supply, I cannot see a business here just a man spending lots of money on heavy engineering stuff.

I assume stating that gets me on the list, I don't mind. I honestly think having seen H_Ks actions and purchases over the last few weeks that suggesting more heavy shit to buy is irresponsible.

I do genuinely hope I am missing something here and he ends up with a successful business not just 14 tanks and no house.

I have not "played" with it yet but the great thing about my MK2 having a HIAB means it should be able to do it's own heavy lifting

A Stolly is not a tank mate. It's light skinned and has wheels not tracks. When I do buy a tank it will appear in this thread.

I’d reckon you’d need a wheel lift to get the wheel off, kind of an investment and prevents you knackering yourself, which will really fuck up earnings if self employed.

I’m 90 percent recovered from a bad abductor tear, and it’s not been right for over 6 months. Could of been catastrophic If still self employed, but I’ve retired into teaching so have just limped around recovering.

Never mind the 1" drive and 3/4" drive impact tools and big compressors needed to shift stubborn nuts on the best part of 30 years alongside the dollies and lifts needed to move the wheels and parts.
