The cambelt, water pump, and dummy stat housing behind the sump are all brand new and have genuinely done 1000 miles at most so really ought to be fine to re-use, I really think it would be a waste of money to replace them. I will admit that I didn't put any loctite on the crank pulley bolt as you're apparently supposed to, just whacked it up tight with my mains-powered rattle gun. Anyway I am obviously pleased with this development so will watch with interest to see what the actual state of the HG is. I took a massive bath on this car financially but successfully doing a cambelt was a huge boost to my mechaniching confidence. Thinking of doing the clutch on my A6 next...
