Looks like Asda going out of market on 5litre oils according to store manager.

5/30 and 5/40 FULLY synthetic 11 squid for 5 litres. Got 3 of each at that price

It's only £12 at ECP at moment. Judging by the lame brains in the Asda local to me they'd not be the type to change the oil. They'd sooner refinance.

Nice, thanks for the heads up. The Saab has been running Asda's finest 5w/30 fully synth (the 'special' vauxhall/opel stuff which meets all the requirements) for 8k and counting and its not blown up yet. its probably due a service too.

Must be time for my Saab to get serviced soon, I'll have to drop in for some over the weekend.

When I picked up oil filter in ECP today out of curiosity I asked what 5L price was. They said 16 quid with 37% discount

If you haven't done an oil change since you bought it from me, then it'll have that same Asdas finest 5w/30 oil in its sump at the moment. If it's the same full synthetic, it's to the correct GM specs for the engine.

I've not done a change, but it has had 5ltrs of not the right stuff (but still long life so low sludge) tipped in over the time due to the slight leak/bit it burns.

Yeah, oddly the oil usage has dropped over the last few months. I suspect it's gunked up the leak, which appears to be the end of the cam cover near the water pump.

Bought 5 litres of 5w30 semi synth Thursday of Triple QX and it was £12 something. They tried upselling me to Shell, I've heard that Triple QX is Shell anyway...

Will have to grab some for that money, isn’t it made by tetrosyl who make Carlube?

Interesting to know that they are stopping 5l own brand bottles but then I can think of a multitude of reasons why they are

Sod these modern oils. Last time I went looking for oil in ASDA, they had no 20w50 and only a couple of 4L cans of 10w40 left. Rubbish.

It's not.

The real value comes in buying 20L drums - £1 to £2 a litre.

No reductions in Asda here, lucky I needed dog food too & they are the only place to do the stuff she likes in big bags.

Is the Eurocarparts oil only cheap with an offer code? Seems expensive without, £23.99 for 5 litres of 15W40 which only suits antidiluvian engines.

Posted

Nothing in mine either.

I was going to change the oil today on the Royale (changed the Senators last week)-went into Wilkos-the 20w 50 was £12.20 last week-now £15

I have a stack of semi synthetic 10w 40 in the garage-any good in an old engine?-I use it on my Range rover

There's always some sort of code-crazy75 is 37% off today.

The Wilko 20w50 has no SPI rating which put me off using it in my MGB. I just use it as a flushing oil now. My local motorfactors sell granville 20w50 oil for the same price and that had a SPI rating.

Do Halfords still do their 'classic 20w50'? I liked that as it was green like proper old Duckhams Q.

Yep-was in there yesterday having a nose.

I change it every 1000-1500 miles. Will pop to the local factors or see what deals available on the bay.

Would like to try the 10w 40 semi-but will stick with the thicker stuff.

Oh good. I've still got about 2 gallon in stock, but it's what I've run my Bonnie on since it's last rebuild. As I intend to strip it down again this winter I'll find out how good the oil was for it.

Bought a gallon of Halfords classic 20w 50 for £20.

Changed the oil on the Royale-the Halfords stuff looks really good-green and thick-oil pressure was better and engine quieter.

My local Asda clearly hadn't got the memo and 5l of any and all grades was £25 as of 15:00 yesterday.

Ditto asda Widnes.

I switched onto it when I couldn't get the Castrol High Mileage stuff any more (used to be in a red bottle iirc) and it worked the same. Stopped up leaks, seeps and smokes from tired engines a treat. That was on GM OHCs, Ford CVHs and the like, I wouldn't try it on anything newer.
