Volvo Drivers

A few years ago whenever there was talk of a dawdling car holding everyone up, it would inevitably be a Volvo. Everyone knew what was meant by the term "Volvo Driver", usually used in derision. So what are they all driving now? My guess is (at least in these parts) Citroen Picassos. Any others?(Apologies to Pog and Torsten  )

Didn't they switch to Saabs, and maybe the Saab drivers are now in Volvos.

I overtook an old 240 GLT saloon towing a caravan the other day. A rare sight.

For me it's always one of these things!

Yaris - .. coming back from the lake dstrict to london one time, it seemed that at the head of every slow line of traffic was a Yaris .. the final big hold up turned out to be due to an accident on a roundabout where a car had left the road and hit a lamp post - no other cars involved. It was a Yaris !

I actually drive a micra as a runabout, but what annoys me most is other micra drivers...I really think they should have renamed the current one to stop geriatrics buying them....

Although I don't hold people up in mine, on country roads I drive as fast I can.

Evidence. Not holding up a 9000 Carlsson.

I'm still driving my Volvo, but I don't seem to hold too many people up.

I don't understand the "Volvos are slow" misconception that pervades our green and pleasant land. Mine isn't the quickest off the line, but when up to speed it has the handling and dogged determination to go quite quickly.Mine will quite happily sit at 95 as easily as it will do 60; with no ill effects whatsoever. The annoyingly slow cars of today seem to be the endless legions of 4x4s that flounder about like lost elephants. I don't care if the new BMW X-Men or whatever it's called has a quad turbocharged v16 with nine million horsepower. It still has a ladder chassis, cart springs and an automatic; therefore it is slow.I had a school run mum in a Range Rover "Sport" (I write that in a derisive tone) come steaming up behind me once, and sit a few inches from my back bumper. Her face, seen in the rear view mirror, was priceless when we got to a corner. I let well engineered RWD dynamics and a dropped cog on the five speed punt me through quickly. She had to slow to about 15 mph and still her ludicrous vehicle appeared ready to topple over.A real Volvo, by which I mean RWD from the PV series to the S90, has no right to be called a slow car. Anyone who says they don't handle is a bad driver. Once the limits and characteristics of a basic live axle are understood then my 740 can be pushed through turns with amazing nimble-ness. It is a sweet car to drive and one that is truly capable of going fast in the hands of an experienced driver.

I said Freelanders earlier in the thread but I'd been going to add 4x4s in general.
