It was a similar story with cla**ics in the mid to late 80s. Anything from the 1960s was selling for thousands- apart from Rootes kit for some reason.I can remember my school headmaster struggling to sell a reasonable "bank robber" Jag for £400 in the early 1980s. If he'd left it to rot in a field until 1987 it would have made five figures.

Wot, even Amazons? I have a receipt from when my Amazon was sold in 1989 to some tool for £600. Flash forward to 2006 and another nob end gave £600 for it. I realise that there's inflation to figure into it (as 1989's £600 probably wasn't £600 in 2006) but that's not a hell of a lot of depreciation \ appreciation going on there.

I spy those infamous palm trees!IIRC Welfare has the inside track on that garage, who have several eBay ID's and are reknowned for being great on glossy pics and glossing over the major mechanical & saftey defects on the cars they sell. I was looking at something from their selection earlier, clocked the palm trees, instant NO THANKS.

Maybe the madness didn't extend to foreign cars, or maybe the arse had fallen out of it by 1989. I can remember trawling through the private classifieds in PC and not seeing much below about £2500. Of course, the advertised price and the selling price are two very different things, but there was definitely something very Escort-like going on.

Hey thats mega kool and not a rip off at €1250 i'd say.

I'd avoid late Rovers, they were afflicted with 'Project Drive', a cost-cutting/de-speccing exercise.?

Fascinating Reading

That's some interesting stuff, a lot of seems to make sense (making things like radio aerials so they aren't unique to a car), but some of it is rather rubbish cost-cutting. Best example I found was where they deleted the anti-rollbar setup from some Rover 45s and compensated with shorter springs. Also getting rid of the fancy kickplates on some models in favour of cheapo plastic ones.

17 Sep 2001 N/A JACK HANDLE - GRIP DELETION

That one is especially mean! They must have spent an awful lot of time and money thinking of things to delete, and ignoring the bigger picture...

Crikey, check out Bulletin 8! They binned the entire spare wheel/jack setup in favour of a can of instant tyre repair stuff. Think it's worth making an entire thread out of this to be honest.

I have a Twingo urge at the moment. This would do -

Looks alright as well :?

If I had a Twingo it would have to be an early one, with the manual windows, two-speed fan, no intermittent wiper setting etc. and the rattly old OHV engine nicked from the Renault 12. Preferably in that pale green colour. IMHO they ruined the Twingo when they started speccing it up - originally it was basically a replacement for the R4 and was charmingly basic for a '90s design.

Hey Father Ted, still got the Metro horn? Get on this one then >

I saw that, and TBH i it was mint would probably hit it - however detailed photos of the sills and door bottoms have fallen on deaf ears and have brought forth none. If i get the time and it doesnt sell in the meantime i may go and have a look at it.

Heres another ace old granny!

2.0 GL Carb Automatic with non-metallic paint!!!! Now youre talking. I have emailed the feller, reckons he's gonna auction it without reserve, but will listen to 'good sensible offers' in the meantime. I could quite fancy it but would not pay more than £200 for it, and expect it to need an MOT (have no idea whether its got any ticket).

I have proper got he horn for one of these old things, for me they are as much an item of ubiquitous 80's street jewellery as any XR3i/RS turbo/Cosworth or whatever. I reckon the one I would like the most is a 2.0i ghia on about an F-reg.

Mr B, you could be a winna like this person:

Anybody need x1/9 parts? There's a head in the driver's footwell.

Quite gruesomely, I went looking for signs of decapitation - especially given the roof damage.I was disappointed

I'd love to get one of these ratlook cars very cheap and turn it back into a standard car, then post it back up on the place it came from looking all mint and tidy.

Surely Hirscht cabs requires a 518i or 524TD with steel wheels.

Those Hyundai S Coupes look alot like Subaru SVXs, I actually have mistaken one for another at a distance.

What a sad old POS that is, you just know that those tyres are completely bald.
That reminds me of the OMG GT TURBO alike 1.1tl I sold on ebay a few years back.. I got it for free out some blokes garden, it was a right crock, bald tyres, didnt run properly, leaked, and had the worlds noisiest drivers side wheel bearing. I sold it for £95 BIN, and spent a fair while stipulating the mong from Notts tht bought it to trailer it home, unfortunately he ignored me warning and tried driving it anyway, then had the cheek to email me when the drivers wheel parted company with the car on his way home!!!!

Probablt to some POWAAARGH enhancing cold air intakes!

Saying that, those N/A 300ZX are one of my favourite cars ever, comfy, lovely driving positioned, pretty quick and glorious sounding. GR8!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1992-VOLVO-240-SE ... 0532965541

This old Volvo has only done 98k! These have a nice spec on these SE models, and the 2.0 manual should be moar acceptable than the 2.3 auto one I had.

I also particularly like the "MPV" registration and 7 seats combo, much more classy than some flimsy Scenic or somesuch. I sneaked it onto Er Indoors watch list and upon discovery was met with the "don't you dare" stare, which is mildly disappointing.

Some excellent work carried out by this guy, which will no doubt lead to this granny going round the oval:

The car was in full working order but i have now removed and sold the recon v6 engine+gearbox,so the car is now a rolling shell...... I bought the car with the intention of fitting my much larger supercharged v engine in it,but it wont fit in the engine bay so im looking for another car.The front slam panel has been cut with a grinder

NICE WORK

Wow that is such a bad story! How much experiance has that guy even had? Surely a quick measure of the engine bay would have told him that it wouldnt work.SRSLY.Also, would it not be cheaper to just buy another engine and fit it?
