Well there's a new Ryanair line to Nantes from Stansted Mr Bo11ox...Edit: I've just seen the engine bay and actually it might not be suitable for driving home eh? :oops:

Yep -why not? I did it with a Fiat 1100R -which I still have. Spotted it on Ebay France- and since it didnt sell asked for 1st Option if I got there within a month.Took the wife on a weeks hols in La Baule -lovely -with A frame hidden in the boot. A day before we left -we went to St Nazaire -should have seen her face as the deal was done!However- it didnt slow us up on the way back -and it cost nowt on the boat - so she couldnt really complain. Basically free homeward transport -on the back of a splendid hols...Lovely little thing -St Nazaire comes recommended (OK-crap town -but lovely locality!)

I had a bit of a calamity with the A-frame this morning. I was towing my Prisma to the MOT shop, and going round a roundabout, the frame came loose, and the Prisma twatted into the back of my Audi! Now the Audi has a big dent in the rear wing and a smashed tail light. Luckily no damage on the wopshite apart from a slightly scuffed placca bumper, cant be often that the italian car comes off best whan clacked into an old audi.The Prisma has funny-shaped lower suspension arms (wider at the outer end than the inner), and what had happened was the a-frame legs had moved slightly sideways on the roundabout, to a section of the lower arms which was smaller (causeing the chains to not be tight any more) sending the steering on the prisma all to hell.After untangling the mess I re-fastened the A-frame, this time wrapping the chains round a tie-rod as well to give a positive side-to-side location. Live and learn :roll::roll:

That sounds very not good.I thought that wasn't suppoed to happen with these frames, although it is something that does nag at the back of my mind. I had a similar crack with that manky old escort wriggling alot on the frame, but thankfully it didn't come loose. I'm far happier lashing the chains round a nice sturctural bit, no chance of it coming adrift the, but this is rarely possible on newer / fwd stuff.

It won't happen if the frame is secured 'properly', however I have now adjusted my definition of the word 'properly' cos it was nice and tight to start with, however I had fastened it to something of an unfavourable shape.Its these wop cars with their clever-ass suspension linkages man, the Alfa 33 is a sod to tow as well, whereas a nice simple Escort or Fiesta with struts and an ordinary 'perpendicular' lower arm is super simple to lash on.

Hadn't noticed that! Had no plans to bid, but it was in my watch list out of idle curiosity (the old couldn't remember the last time I saw one routine)!

Sorry to hear about your A frame-I tend to stop 1-200 yards up the road, and perhaps again after a turn to check its settled OK. Could you not feel it was loose -feels 'orrible as it moves around -even a little.Many years ago -with the old a frame type -the ones with buffers against the bumpers -I had a very lucky escape. Collecting a scrap Citroen HY van (the corrugated one -for spares on mine) with my un MOT'd untaxed Saab (oooh err -only car available with a tow bar) -it came unhitched- completely; at a downhill roundabout. Overtaking me in the fast lane -with the frame pointing forward like a spear -it glanced off the roundabout , turned left up the first exit and came to a halt on the grass centre section of the dual carriageway, front wheels raised by the frame now wrapped around the wheels. Stopping to rip off the trailer plate- I proceeded north 'in an orderly fashion' to find Plod in a layby, oblivious -200 yards up the road.Would he have been interested in an old Saab towing a broken down Van? What do you think?

Tempted by those GS's. I bought my CX Turbo off boyie88 - he's a good bloke. That Strada was on about six months ago - wonder why it didn't sell?edit: I'm sure that GSA was the one I used to see on my way to work sometimes. Wonder how it ended up in London? I never saw it advertised up here.

Daf 66 & 1108cc. Is that a standard Daf motor, and is there a connection with the Renault 1108's? I had a schoolfriend whose parents ran a 66 Marathon. What did that have?

Same engine - Volvo inherited the Renner link when they bought DAF. They also inherited the basic design of the 340, which was already well-advanced - just Volvo-ised it with massive bumpers.Pretty sure 66 Marathon had the 1289cc lump that the 12s had.
