Small shit vans - Advice in what is there and what to avoid

Drop Holbeck a line, he has a C15 that might be Fur Zayle for the right offer.

Me and my bike have experienced Daz's C15 and Dave_Q's Berlingo Multispace - they're both good vans, I liked them. Transit Connect isn't a bad idea either.

Don't get a Caddy, all the decent ones get pineappled.

I would have thought you will struggle to get a decent example of any of the above bar perhaps the C15 for £500.

Particularly the Connect because 'Transit' tax. They are a decent drive though.

Maybe look for something that your average tradesman wouldn't have heard of, or touch with a barge pole. Maestro? Seat Inca? Renault 5 Extra?

Just to add on the Connect, it's a purpose built commercial as an above poster has said, designed and built by Ford Otosan (Turkey).

I think some oily bits may be derived from the Mk1 Focus as some engineers at Ford Belgium fitted the complete running gear out of a totalled ST170 into one for a laugh.

+1 for kangoo 1.9d's I bought one off a pikey in 2015 and it was very good. He had nicked some bits off it when I came to collect but it was under £500 with 11 months test. He was later seen on crimewatch.

Avoid those DCI kangoo's. I have never had one but they're shit . am i right?

Maestro's are ok I might flog mine in a few months.

Fiat fiorinos ?

Avoid cheap Bipper/nemo etc, especially as quite a few security firms bought them, and these vans average 100k a year and are well known for getting a full Quentin before sale, and the bloody things are never serviced

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm pretty much settled on the Berlingo/Partner/Kangoo now - especially considering my budget. C15 discounted as, strangely, it's load length is less. Hijet/carry even though ideal for loads, look to be horrible if needed to go on a long motorway journey and a death trap. All the Connects under 1k either seem fucked or not long to be. Anything bigger is out of my budget too.

Now it's just a case of waiting for a decent one to come up at the right price.

Going by that engine in other Renault stuff, when it's running it's very economical, pulls well and generally reliable ... Until it lunches it's fuel pump which takes out all 4 injectors, fills the tank with swarf and bungs up the fuel filter. At which point makes it easy decision on what to do next - i.e. scrapping it!

I've driven well maintained Kangoo DCIs with over 300k on the clocks.

Y no Caddy/Inca?

Because all VAG are shit... ;)

They're pretty rare it seems in my search. However if a good one comes up for the right price, I'd certainly consider too. They look far more dated (imo) than the others though.

I've had a Citroen Nemo and then a Berlingo recently. Neither impresses me. Oddly the Peugeot Trek I recently had as a demonstrator was much nicer than a Berlingo. Maybe the higher ride height and softer suspension?

Avoid French is my opinion.

They are dated, not far removed from a 1993 Ibiza really. Dated = simple and easy to repair however, cheap parts and no common rail diesels.

I have a 1.5dci Kangoo for work.

I think it's great, goes well enough, feels like a car and quite a handsome looking thing.

Mine is an 06 plate with 60k and one owner (textile company) from new so no builders shit and it's really clean. It's air conditioned, has a bulkhead to stop crap in the back from trying to take me out and a tow bar too.

years MOt for £1200.

I have heard all the horror stories about the engine shitting itself but surely if it's well maintained, it will just proceed as normal.

My car is a 1.9dci scenic and i've had it 4 years. I change the oil and filter every 4k and a full service every 8k and it's marvelous. It's on 118k now and is still as strong as it was when i bought it.

So yeah, i would recommend a Kangoo, just consider having one without a bulkhead if you need to get bigger stuff in it as that does restrict the load space quite a bit.

It seems that it doesn't matter how well they were looked after, they still shit their pumps. However in later engines they changed suppliers & design of the pump and supposed to have resolved a lot of the issues. A lot of it also seems to be luck of the draw as there are a lot of >150k examples of these engines kicking around. Same lump is still kicking around in new Nissan Jokes/Cashcows, Clios, Scenics, etc so can't be that bad!

Pretty agricultural sounding though, even the latest. The compromise to get 60mpg+ I guess.

How about this for a grand ?

Quite rare apparently, almost like nobody wanted one for some reason.

Cool car but I'm guessing that the load space is pretty small compared to the above and other things like a big load lip.

Ok, we thought of that...post-17481-0-82380600-1495666760_thumb.jpeg
