stillOrange Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 http://www.citroenet.org.uk/miscellaneous/unleaded/unleaded.html This would suggest that leaded petrol is a must for this engine. It's a 14RE but produced in 1984. egg 1
somewhatfoolish Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 there's a risk this is a stupid question - but does this run ok on standard unleaded?Teh Internetz says that it can't but it appears to be for ignition advance reasons as it also says it can run on superZOMG unleaded. Presumably; a) as the head's alloy it has valve inserts hard enough as standard for unleaded b)the advanced and super-sophisticated electronic breakerless sparkler system cannot be fooled into retarding itself to allow the use of RON95, but RON98 is fine. Skizzer Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I thought there was a 14 with no E, which had less power than the 72 of the 14E and RE, but it's a long time since I read the launch brochure.I can't believe no one has said LOVES DRIVING HATES GARAGES yet. What a sales slogan that was! You're right and I was wrong. CAR GBU from January 1985: Luxury BX is luxurious. egg and adw1977 2
Essex V6 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I've found some photos from a few years back when the owner before the last one got it.Is that a later rear bumper?
Essex V6 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 The car arrived. I stupidly assumed that the guy with the transporter/recovery truck will have jump cables. He didn't. Huffing and puffing and pushing began. We managed to get it into the lock up.The car itself. Damn it's beige, it will be even more once thick layer of dust is removed. It seems to be in relatively good nick. The only rust spots I could see are on doors on drivers side. I'll try to get back to the garage tomorrow after work just to start it up and have a proper look around.Few pictures IMG_3783.JPGIMG_3785.JPGIMG_3787.JPGIMG_3789.JPGIMG_3790.JPGIMG_3791.JPGLove this photo
RayMK Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Good luck with the BX of much beigeness. My son had a BX several years ago. It is remembered for its heavy clutch, lack of room in the front footwell for his size 14s and puddles of LHM. It spent many weeks having the leaks fixed, only for another to occur within a few days. As previous owners of many similarly suspended Citroens, this behaviour was intolerable and destroyed any love that may have been developing.
Guest Breadvan72 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Money out now 570. Money in 685. EDIT, arithmetical error, sorry, 645 Still 570 in, 645 out. EDIT: DOH - other way around, 570 out, 645 in.
purplebargeken Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Hmm, do I foresee a trip to pie eating world to see French beige shite? Verdict..... would.
Skizzer Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Sadly, you're right. I'll never see the view that the shitter a car is, the better it is. P'raps I'm in the wrong place. It's not that shittier cars are better. It's that the more unloved the car is, the more it falls to us to preserve it, because nobody else will. One of the last surviving examples of a family hatchback, in wheezy-engined base spec and a miserable colour and wearing its history in its seat fabric and bumper scuffs, does not mean a better car; it means a more heroic rescue. The world is awash with shiny, fashionable old sports cars and handbuilt limousines. They have huge support through owners' clubs, magazines, auction houses and big businesses. They have glitzy shows at the NEC and Paris and Geneva and Essen and Pebble Beach. For stuff like a cooking-grade Citroen BX or Ford Sierra or Renault 16 - interesting (if flawed) pieces of design and a part of European social history and many people's youth - there's just us blokes on a home-made website. There are far, far fewer mk1 BXs left than there are Aston Martin V8s or (God help us) MGBs because nobody else cares. That's the point. Lacquer Peel, catsinthewelder, puddlethumper and 24 others 27

Guest Breadvan72 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 To aid funding, I am thinking of publishing a short book featuring the exceedingly funny and inventive notes that have accompanied the payments sent thus far. I really have been ROFLMAOing over many of them. I may post a selection here in due course. Witty forum is witty! To those who have sent such notes, many thanks for the top LULZ action, and I am sorry for not replying to each one in character. barmatt and chaseracer 2
