Vito bought.. Camper time

I got the CRD50 fridge, just a fine size and also the right size for the cutout in the furniture, I think the higher the number, the bigger the size. Mine was "secondhand" but unused- previous chap bought it for an unstarted project and it was over 120 quid saved for me. Result.

Had to do a big bodge today. The aircon condenser was leaking,so I ordered a new one. The pipes were really difficult to get off the old one- steel nuts on to an aluminium rad.. :?  I cleaned up the old nuts on the pipes as best I could, but upon fitting the new condenser ,the last nip, it all went slack. Yup, burr on the nut stripped the aluminium thread. Stuff paying out again for another condenser and gold plated aircon pipes so had to think a bit. 2 big washers off a Fiesta driveshaft nut, with a slot ground out to go over the pipes, a couple of grooves for bolts to go through and clamped it all together with some new O rings. It seems to be holding for now- will know fo' sure tomorrow.

Been grumpy about this for the last day or so, but a job yesterday cheered me right up :)

So hang on, does that make you the fourth emergency service, or the fifth, or what? I'm lost now.

Good fridge bodge, too.

Awesome work dude, that would have taken me all year!

That is a brave move - doing all that work to an old Vito before the mot!

I would be distraught having to remove all the stuff to weld underneath

Remember I'm a tester myself..I had a proper good poke around before starting- It actually only needs a small patch on 1 sill.

Ahh yes , so you are 😌

Thought you may have taken it to where the blue golf was done ðŸ˜

Jazoli's work mate had a blue golf with a years ticket and literally no os outer sill

Some peoples 30cm varies..was he a fisherman??

The rust on the Vito sill...hole actually...is outwith the "prescribed area" as it now has no rear seats.. Will still be getting sparkled though..

Good work on this. I'm slowly coming round to the idea of a camper, especially a non VfuckingW one.

New nearside sill fitted today. I'm burnt to a crisp cos I had to do it on the floor. Inner sill was gone too and needed plated all the way along. Got it up on the 4 poster late in the day and all else looks fine. Driving home I have an ABS light on and no handbrake. WTF. .. MOT tomorrow...First time I've driven it ever today. Drives nice,..Thank F****..

Stuck some stickers on to make it look a wee bit more like a camper. V5 off to Swansea along with pics to hopefully get the class changed to "Motor Caravan" Insured as a camper just now, for less than half the cost of it being a "van". Speed limits will go up too if it gets changed.

Nope, staying with the "German Merc" look. Bog standard and base model looking. Standard is the new modified..

I actually prefer the steels tbh. Also means cheaper rubber....

Looks fantastic, hard to believe it's the same van from the second page.

What paint did you use for the grey on the lower panels?  I'm about to do the same thing to my Hiace but not sure what paint to use.

Great stuff, it looks the bees knees man, I can imagine its a vast improvement over my old Talbot Express. can I ask, how much does it owe you?

The grey is Hammerite stone chip from Halfords, with clear laqquer on top. I love the stuff- 1 tin did the lot, it rubs down lovely with 800 wet and dry and I use it as a primer too, far better than the high build shite in an aerosol. I did it to be easy to touch up- It is a Vito after all so the rust will come through, quick rub, blast of stonechip and good as new for another few weeks.. Lots of the top has been painted with a brush and celly turquoise, for the same reason, and I don't want to be precious about it. It's supposed to be fun,so I don't want to worry about scratches and stuff.

I reckon it owes me £3200 all in Mr B. I did go a bit daft with some stuff, and that includes everything like fixing the aircon and the rather pricey fridge and curtains. Sounds like a lot of money, and it is- but I couldn't buy one like it for anywhere near, 72k van with night heater, aircon,a years ticket, all new interior with split charge etc. It drives beautifully and is happy at 80-85 which will make Germany and the M6 a bit easier too.

I ****** love it. :-D
