Fatha has viewed 2007 mondeo ghia tdci - 110 k 11 stamps in the book at a trader - up for £2900 - said he will knock £125 off but I still think it's a tad salty

Opinions?

10year old 110k mile car. Seems a lot. But I'm tight!

Two thousand nine hundred pounds for a nigh on ten year old Mondeo?

Yep. I think it's dear but so many of them are utterly shagged finding a nice one is not easy.

I sold an 07 vectra cdti with FSH and 76 k on the clock for £2400 nearly two years ago. I got offered £1500 p/x.

You can pick a decent one of these up for £1200-1500 on that plate. More reliable than the mk3 but that's not to say a lot. At that mileage I'd expect to pay probably £1800 at a guess, maybe less. Bear in mind these are belt cam so if possible look for it having been done. But anyhow he's asking a fortune for it so...

In all likelyhood it's done 210,000 and been clocked several years ago, these will pull some immense mileages. Not sure about most being shagged, they seem to hold the miles well. I've seen some tidy ones around.

A dealer needs to put a sufficient margin across to cover any potential issues, cover overheads and make a small profit.  Saying all that, it seems a bit salty.

Are these difficult to clock, Sward?

It's a modern - a piece of piss to clock. Plug tool into OBD port, select model on tool, up comes current mileage, type in new mileage, hit Go and wait. A minute later the mileage is now what was entered earlier.

To be fair I don't mind paying slightly above book for a good car.

Easier than ever. All done on the laptop, no fucking about with the screwdrivers etc (or this bizarre fallacy people have about a drill on the speedo cable). The awful thing is I'd be hard pressed to spot something that had done 100k in 3 years to something that had done 50k, such is how hardwearing the interior is these days. You can use the MOT checker but in all likelyhood if it's getting clocked it's probably done at just under 3 year old.

They're a really nice car and £2500-3000 for a well cared for, FSH genuine mileage example isn't sore.

Maybe for a pristine fully-stamped history-specced Titanium X model. The 2.5Ts really hold value.

You can get an old shape 2007 plate Mondeo Ghia X with a similar engine for well under £2k.

I haven't really looked about for a bit, but would hope for around £2500 for my 2009 Titanium X 2.0 TDCi (the model I would recommend, anyway). 180K honest miles. Drives fine. Thinking of replacing with an estate.

Maybe I am miles (HA) out?

Four years ago I paid £1600 for a 120k mile 2005 Ghia X 3.0 estate with a crunched front wing. It's an ex-cop car and came with a smattering of history- new engine at 10,000 miles, new suspension at 60,000! It seems that almost nobody buys a Mondeo as a family car now, so you have to assume that it'll have been taxied, or in the case of a big-petrol-engine one like mine, or the Mk4 2.5T, be ex-cop.

I've put 20k on mine in 4 years (I don't do a lot of miles living in London) and it's been brilliant TBH, only big bill has been £400 to do the clutch at a local specialist (which was a steal as it's a subframe off job). It's been off the road since October when the alternator went; I've fixed it (I hope) but have yet to reinstall it as it's been so cold and wet.

The Mk4 was consistently Autocar's top pick in its class for pretty much its entire lifespan, they are great cars. I'd just be extremely wary of paying strong money for one. If/when my Mk3 carks it I'd love to get one of the run-out Mk4 models with the 240bhp Focus ST engine.

I've just been looking at the values of these second hand. Absolute madness, in a couple of years time they'll be worth the square root of f*ck all.

Now is the time to buy one and store it in a barn then ?

The story of every Mondeo ever.

I hope they turn north eventually. Every other OSF has after all. I'm mightily fond of the MK1s and the facelift saloons.

I quite like this shape of Mondeo. As cav said though one that's 2500 will be worth half this in a year the price of them just seems to tumble once they go over a certain thresh hold. It doesn't really matter if you're going to hang onto it for 5 years or what ever though.

I'm looking forward to when a current shape Mondeo 1.0 ecoboost can be had for less than £1000 if any make it that far.

I was checking the depreciation on my Juke at work and it depreciated £175 last month not counting mileage, which probably makes it more like £220. Thank god I can give it back!

Seems quite alot to me. Nearly 3 bags for a 10 Year old Mondeo..

How about finding a nice private example? I always find that route better value for money.

The £3k mark is tricky, you can buy a well kept gem but can also buy a PITA money pit.

Good Luck.

Private not necessarily always best. You'd be surprised the brass neck people will have for hiding faults. Plus if you buy private and the injectors pack in the week after you have absolutely no come back. Trade on the other hand you might* have some redress. If they haven't packed up and moved to another site. Your damned if you do damned if you don't.

I agree £3k can be funny money, you could buy something really tidy that'd do you for years or you could buy a p/ex that's been chopped in due to impending DMF fail. The difference between doing this at £3,000 and doing it at £1,000 is that you are less likely to get sucked into spending a fortune putting it right on a £1,000 one.

At some point they will go up in value. The best one they made was the Mk1 (not in V6 flavour, though) as everything after that steadily got worse and worse.

Each to their own, but there must be an almost endless supply of better cars out there for three grand.

I've had them for the last 12 years. Can't find anything that does as much as well. Cheap parts, decent on fuel, plenty of space, safe etc.

Pre-tax-rape non-ragged 3.0 V6! Wow...those are rockinghorse shit rare.

The 2.5T Mk4 certainly keeps winking at me - I love the interior and dash of the Titanium X - but I've only ever seen them for sale in dealerships for £3000 with 'cambelt-due-now' mileages on them, being sold by dealers who insist that because it's a Ford it has a timing chain and not a belt.
