smellmycheese Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Can anyone recommend a leather cleaner that actually works. Bought an autoglym one for a tenner and may have well used my own piss.
Uncle Jimmy Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Soap + water. I used the same Autoglym and it did fuck all.
DVee8 Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 You could try http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gliptone-Liquid-Leather-Cleaner-GT12-250ml/251358179891?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40794%26meid%3Dccf76ec7990b40c9b36811b0bad726f0%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D251358184749
NorfolkNWeigh Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Sounds dodgy and you probably won't want to use it too often. But, Mr Muscle Window Cleaner . When I got my W211 Merc , the cream leather was filthy on the driver's seat , I tried 3 or 4 leather cleaners that did absolutely bugger all. The Mr Muscle shzzle eats the grease straight off without appearing to damage the dye or leather, I made sure I treated it with hide food straight afterwards and after nearly 18 months with a fat bastard sitting on it for 10 or 12 hours a day , the leather is still perfect.
Wilko220 Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Or for bigger stains, Mr Muscle oven cleaner...
meshking Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I used what some detailing folk refer to as the Gliptone twins, which is not some 60s two-piece but a damn good cleaner and feed. Cleaned up the seats in my Lotus beautifully and makes the interior smell wonderful.
Split_Pin Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Gliptone liquid leather. About £12 quid for the 2 bottles, one a shampoo and the other the feed. It is fantastic and widely regarded as the only product worth bothering with. I've used it on my Astras seats for nearly 12 years now and they still look brand new.
DeeJay Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Lux soap flakes, (natural soap) and a soft brush. A toothbrush is good.If the cleaner is too harsh it removes the protective lacquer and the dye wears quicker.
Timewaster Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I suspect that AutoGlym must have re formulated Leather Care. Trigger also said last month that it didn't do much. It used to be really good but that was 10 years ago. Maybe the active ingredient went the same way as the rust inhibitors in Hammerite. trigger 1
BavarianRetro Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Liquid leather, though not the intensive cleaner pictured. Just the standard one. Then apply the gt11 conditioner.
bigfella2 Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Saddle soap.Another recommendation for saddle soap, cheap and effective, use with a sponge. Can get it from any equestrian shop. Good for cleaning leather sofa too. Twiggy 1
trigger Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I wasn't impressed with the AG stuff but Angrydicky recommended the liquid leather which i bought of ebay and applied last week and it does seem pretty good. One thing though, it really stinks and makes your clothes reek afterwards so make sure your wearing old clothes and it's well ventilated.

What is it you are trying to improve it with your seats Trig? Look or feel? I've used Gliptone and however good it is, it stinks.Renapur is good stuff too but difficult to find. trigger 1
Split_Pin Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Am I the only one that loves the smell of LIquid Leather? The way to use it is to keep feeding the seats until they stop absorbing it so that usually means using a liberal amount.
Jerzy Woking Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 This. Mixture of beeswax and lanolin. Restored thh interior of my previous Saab perfectly, and more recently a 60 year old leather chair i picked up at a bootsale. Highly recommended for anything leather. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gold-Label-Leather-Hide-Food-With-Beeswax-and-Lanolin-250-Gram-/252401873845?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

Olfactory bliss.
