Agree on the fulvia. Utterly utterly gorgeous, simple, elegant and sound perfect. Just at the point I figured I could save for one they seemed to go through the roof. £30k for a decent one now?

Also said to be ace to drive.  Just 1300 cc and super lovely.  Bah humbug, I had the same experience as you: I just thought that I might get one and almost overnight they became £Stupid.

The only thing left on my, cars I'd really like, list is a Bristol 407 (wouldn't say no to any of the others, but the 407 is my favourite). I have missed the boat now, but in the unlikely event that one came up for sale at a price where I could somehow access the money to pay for it, I would. (Even if it meant not eating for a month or two)

Cant believe we're halfway down page 4 before a picture of a Tatra appeared. The 603 is the sensible option. That's the one I'd have as my everyday car. My weekend car would be a T87.

Even wilder design. Properly streamlined. Even the floor was smooth to improve streamlining. This was possible with all mechanical bits being right at the back.

Estimated 15k at auction soon. I have one corroding away on my mother's driveway, it's been there 14 years. Was in good condition when parked up. It's rotten now, I would love to re shell it but lack the skills.attachicon.gif8231086.jpg

I used to know one of these with a fabulously dirty looking 40ish year old woman driving it. I was a teenager at the time & I'd have been all over both.

I'd love to own a Fiat Coupe someday, everything I've heard points to them being good fun to drive, and for a car that came out 24 years ago, it's aged very well. Unfortunately, almost every single one left is a total wreck, and those that aren't are just too expensive for what they are. I'd also worry about reliability, especially on a car that's probably a total pain to find parts for.

For me it was AE86 Corollas, back when they were simply "GT Coupes".

AE86_2.jpg

I went to buy one in the early '90s and thought it drove much worse than the Alfasud Sprint I had at the time.  I know the FWD Alfa would be crap for DRIFTIN but back then it hadn't been invented.  The Toyota certainly didn't have the steering feel and general response of the Alfa.

Alvis TD21 Graber Coupe'

Very nice indeed, but don't piss about with an old one, buy a brand new one instead.

For me it would have to be the Tatra 603.  Just something about the shape and crazy mechanicals that I really like.

attachicon.gifTatra 603.JPGattachicon.gifTatra 603 2.JPG

The T603 is probably the easiest Tatra to own, you can still get most of the parts.  I had one for years and would have another right now if I could afford it.  But at the time my heart was drawn to the 613 with its superior handling, more space, more power and much sharper drive.  That was more difficult to get parts for.

That looks like a T77 to me, longer than a T87?  But I'm a bit out of practice.

I have no doubt a Corolla Coupe is over rated but I just loved the look of them. I eventually got an s12 Silvia which is similar to the sprinter but uglier in just about every way.

If we're talking about cars we'd love to own but can't afford, then:

Inspector Lynley's Bristol:

You sir are correct, my mistake, I picked the wrong picture, going for the best angle. I'd be happy with either but to correct my mistake a couple of T87s:

A little more rounded than the 77 but still utterly unlike anything else.

I'd love a Bristol, any of the V8s would do nicely to be honest.

I'd quite like a Jenson Interceptor 111 (I know they are slower but I like the wheels!).

I'd LURVE a Lamborghini Espada S111 but it would have to have S1 wheels...

I'd kill someone to own a 50's Bentley Continental with the right hand manual change... even though I couldn't drive it.

I would assassinate anyone of your choice to own a Bentley Blue Train Special - even one of the more available replicas based on a Rolls Royce (spit!).

I really don't live in the real world do I?

I had a Coupe 20V Turbo from 1997 to 2002.  It was a great car, and I wish that I had kept it.  Sadly, these cars fell into the hands of the Barries, so many have been ruined.  I saw a sad picture of my one on the net a few years ago: it had been utterly Barried.   If you can't find one that is sound, maybe try the Alfa GTV of the same era?

I've just been reading about Garbaldy's Subaru's.

I don't need one and the wife would hate it, but I've always wanted a car with a flat 4 burble and stupid image.

Hey, 402s aren't mega money yet!

A mate of mine has a Continental, Alfa SZ, Tatra 603 and T87, amongst other things, so seems to have inadvertently won this thread

I bought a Fiat 20v turbo three or four years ago from an old lady  -  I left her a note under her wiper in Tescos.

It got only little use and sat on the drive for a while but this Summer I had it recommissioned (oil cooler pipes, cambelt, auxilieries, rad etc etc) and have been driving it as a daily since and it hasn't put a foot wrong. It does use a lot of oil, though but I think they all do that ... oh, and fuel consumption is pretty dismal too :-)

I would have another like a shot as long as it hadn't been *modified*

I would love a Consul Classic...always loved these (for some reason) since I was a kid. But if I had one I would never use it in case somebody hit it, keyed it or harmed it in some way. Equally my fettling skills are just not good enough to do one justice. Something to be admired from afar sadly.

Agree on the Rover 75. Would really like one but probably not a sensible 'daily' any more. But if someone can convince me I am being weak minded and that they are robust and reliable and an entirely rational choice for doing 30k a year then I am open to convincing

An Austin/MG Metro. Good fun, very personable, relive my youth...but I got better things to spend money on sadly. Seeing that rusty red one on the Tat thread did stir some primitive feelings that I've not felt for some time though.

59 Impala. Yeah right, I can see that happening

Old Jag. Comfy seats mean a lot to me and they have an effortless classiness with which I associate myself wholeheartedly.

Mrs Misfit says:

Alfa Spider

Renault 11 TXE (used to have one and was very fond of it)

Renault Modus (I dont think she gets this thread!)

I have already bought the Car that I would and shouldn't, but did anyway (Off JohnK)

Achieving 30 MPG if I drive like my father in law, and 8 mpg if I boot it hard.

This morning I set off for Derby some 110 miles away and reset the average MPG.

Started at 0.5Gals/hour dropped to 10 mpg by the end of the road and gradually crept to 23 mpg by the time I reached the M57 some 8 miles away. Eventually by the time I reached McD's in Uttoxeter for Breakfast I was on 31 Mpg, by setting the cruise at the speed limit all the way, which dropped to 30 by the time I parked in Derby

This evening by the time I had been to ASDA and driven to my Digs I was on 28 mpg.

I'm being crippled.

The car I always promised myself but am too scared is a Cavalier Turdo.

That doesn't seem too bad economy? What is the car again?

My car regret was a RX8. Awesome fun, except the 16mpg (best I got was 22mpg @ 60mph cruise). Which was even less fun when it was >£1.50 p/l.

There are some good shouts on here, most of mine have already been suggested...

Just down the road from me is a blue plaque celebrating where Vincent Motorcycles used to be built, how cool would it be to own something that would fit into it's locale so perfectly... if however you can afford to own one you aren't living in Stevenage.

One thing with the cost / age of a lot of these cars is there are many I just wouldn't buy and keep outside. If they're worth finding the few that aren't rust buckets I couldn't leave it on the road to turn into one.

I was also of an age growing up when you could look in the local paper at 15 and see a nice 1.6 laser Capri (gotta think about the insurance for when you finally hit 17) for the same price as 1.1 Fiestas. University and a 1.1 pug 205 XR put paid to that.

The thread on this site that has me most Jealous at this moment in time is the Impreza one, if I ever manage to ditch driving to work and there for can ignore fuel economy completely they will be back on my radar, by then they will also all be in Carcoons in people's garages in Essex only venturing out to be driven on to a trailer ready to head to a show.

About 10 years ago I was in CZ looking for a Barkas and a Tatra 603 to bring to the UK. I was offered a few Tatras at around £1500 each. Asked again last year and the same Tatras are now £15000 each, minimum.

Good call on the 1959 Chevy Impala.

Some 1960s Fords are now more than the American cars they were inspired by. A Mk3 Zodiac is a lovely thing but at three times the price of a decent early XJ6? If I'm spending near £10k on something of that nature I'd rather a 1960s Galaxie or similar. Obviously a 4 dr, but then I like 4 doors!

I wonder if the bubble will ever burst, at the end of the day a 1200 Cortina or 1340 Classic is quite a vintage experience to drive without upgrades.

As for ones that got away, Mercedes of all descriptions, from fintails to W123s. Would love a Ronin spec 450 SEL 6.9, but it's not gonna happen now.

Compared to a lot mentioned here old Jags are still quite affordable.

Bristol Beaufighter for that crazy Zagato styling teamed up with an AC 3000 ME as my ideal twin garage that I have wanted since I first saw them. A Morgan 4 seater and an E-type coupe as my daily and my classic choice would complete the picture.

I would like to revisit my Triumph 2000 and Vanden Plas Allegro but prices have risen beyond my range as have rover 100 Cabriolet, all of which I regret selling. But a Rolls Royce Silver Spirit remains tempting but the complexity and fuel costs tell me to stick with my XJ8, which is prettier anyway, but that grill........

Oh, I forgot to mention this one:

dscn86471.jpg

It was for sla e at a local Ford dealer for more than a year, the price-tag was a very cheap* 4500 Euro. Without any warranty of course.

I looked at this car twice, thought about buying it and driving it until something expensive breaks, but finally, I was not brave enough to

take on an old Jaguar XJ6 without any service-history and without an austrian MOT.

I am not a brave man, car-wise.

The only one I've found for sale is priced at the handsome price of 90k. I could buy a small hamlet around here for that kind of money.

Right now I'm thinking about buying an Alfa GTV from around 2000. I see they hit rock bottom, and I'm afraid that if I don't get one now, in 5 years I'd get one for 10 times as much as today.
