Anyone interested in a LDV Pilot/Sherpa

The father of a lass we know down the road used to smoke about in a nice old (sliding door IIRC) Sherpa. I'd hear the thing farting up and down the street - He drove it every day.
A few months ago he passed me driving a Ducato or something, I'd wondered what happened to the Sherpa.
The mrs bumped into him at a funeral this morning and apparently "it's broken" and sat on his drive, and he can't bear to scrap it.

Now from memory it wasn't visibly rusty or full of plod, and I know he had head gasket problems at one point but I'm not sure what's actually broken on it at the moment.   There's nowt wrong with it
Its a white XUD panel van on a J plate LDV Pilot so probably 1996 or so. In Bolsover somewhere.

Would anyone be interested in it? I could go get some pictures and more info if so. I quite fancy it myself but have nowhere to put it and no time to do owt with it so I'd rather try and get it a home than him end up scrapping it or someone bum it for the gearbox to put an XUD in a fuckin caterham or somert.

A J-plate would be a Perkins Prima rather than a XUD.

We had to scrap one at work as they just couldn't get the parts. It was shame as it was nothing major. I prefer them to drive to a transit but I may be the only one.

I'm pretty sure it was an XUD because when I was talking to him about the head gasket issues he said it was the Peugeot engine.

Actually I've just found it on street View - It's an LDV Pilot so 1996?

I don't want to share the link because it'll show this blokes address, but it looks tidy on street view, although the picture was taken in 2008. it does have the sliding drivers door though.

Righto - "van sales by chinese whisper"

Turns out there's nowt wrong with the van, he only stopped using it because he bought a Dispatch for £200 and it's got electric windows.

Van is currently parked in his mates pub carpark. His daughter came over last night for tea and brought some "relevant documents" for it which include a new keepers supplement from 2005 for a totally different G reg LDV Convoy, an insurance certificate for said Convoy in 2006 and a hand written receipt for doing the head gasket on this van about a year ago.

I'll have a run over this weekend to the pub and take a couple of photos and get the reg for MOT details etc. I don't think he wants a fortune for it, maybe £2/300 kind of money.

I've always fancied one of these for boarding about and sleeping in at events and stuff.

However, I've got a VW van in my workshop that's not seen the road since 2006 that really warrants being finished and used for the same.

Yup, I've got a fully finished VW T25 that's ready to go, parked in my mums garage and I've used it once since 2014.

Sounds great, I love sliding door vans. Bombing along with the flippin door open, its like a convertible that you drive on its side

A LHD sliding door van would be class for stealing phones, ice creams etc off kids stood on the pavement

Prices are creeping on them.  Mine was basically worthless when I stopped using it, and it's worth proper money now.

This sounds interesting. And on my doorstep!

You could have the best haulage fleet ever  :-D

All these vans! Thing for me is the bloody London LEZ bollocks which prohibits me from purchasing anything interesting and dizzle powered unless it is compliant.

Can a reg search be done on the LEZ website?

Just what I was thinking - hacking around with the door open seemed so daring when I was a teenager!

if anyone gets this, can you stick an xud turbo from a 306 in it? Should be gr9 fun

Diesel, Auto,  LEZ exempt, Essex, internal space > LDV pillock     "This vehicle either meets the required emission standards, is exempt from the scheme or is subject to a 100% discount"   If I buy it will you look after it?

My escort and I think the c15 is not subject to lez. Ulez is different though.

I'd be interested subject to details of why it's not working or whatever, a couple of pictures and any details of whether it's still MOT'd. Cheers

Yep.

I remember somebody on the 306 forums was planning on swapping an LDV pilot to XUD turbo power. I can't recall how they got on with that, or if they even finished it.

I'm aware I'm joining the party late but this sounds like something that could come in handy for my dr's surgery conversion, basically my new house renovation

Have you got a big hole you want to drop it in?

When I was about 10 ( so about 1974) my dad rented a knackered old Transit from some dodgy backstreet place.

The sliding passenger door fell off, it probably rusted through the slider channel, anyway he just chucked it in the back, then drove from Leominster to Birmingham. He wasn't totally irresponsible , he did tell me and my( younger) brother to wear the seatbelt in the outer seat.

My last Sherpa was a LEZ.  So theres hope.  Alternatively pretend via DVLA its got a carb-fed O-series in it.

Incidentally if you get a Perkins engine, or a Perkins equipped LDV, you won't need to bother doing an XUD TD conversion, imho.

I bet it wouldn't be hard to trick a Peugeot 1007 into driving around with the doors open. A few of them have probably done it to themselves I'd imagine .
