Totally by accident! AS popped up as a "may like" on Tapatalk which I use to access Trucknet.

This is way more fun....

i found this place because a friend who was a member on here (welder) told me he had seen a picture of my capri that someone had took, when he told me the name of the site i chuckled and thought it sounds a bit of a laugh so i had a look and liked the humour and atmosphere, ive been here since

Didn't like piston heads (they didn't like me) started reading retro rides and noticed Mr bollox posts and came across.

Even managed to win my first raffle

I've had a look on Retro Rides. Some if it looks interesting, other stuff is just people hacking up old cars to drop a Zetec in a Moskvich or something like that

Found it by googleing "some twat on gumtree has tried to swap my astra for a psp, and a half eaten twix, what should i do"

Seriously i can't remember how i found it but glad i did, great place.

By accident in my case... I was searching for Jalopy magazines on Google and ended up here. Thankfully.

I bought a terrible Megane (which is still terrible and is sitting there judging me). Stanky was trying to find advice about the stuck rear window, posted here, I thought I'd come take a look and that was that.

Don't know i found it...probably because i was for hunting for info aboot old festering heap of shite at the time and this popped up

A lot of good people and stuff though....i'm just a grumpy auld coont

The hell did this guy do between making this post and now that got him banned?!

I think it was Breadvan72 linky type thing from my lurking a bit in PH. BV took the time to post on various really interesting projects. Dolly Sprint especially.

Hope Mr Breadvan you're doing ok as not heard much recently. Good luck mate.

Yes, I found out about AS from PH

One thing that I've always wanted to ask but never have, so 8 years later... What the hell was Mr Bo11ox's old signature photo all about?! It was a young lad and a Citroen Saxo, I always thought it was him!

I always wondered that too, cummon Reg put us out of our misery.

'rust in peace' back when I used to subscribe to practical classics.

Breadvan used to mention the place on PH, I wandered over for a look, got banned from PH & now squat here until the landlord notices.

I was Google searching for information on Tagoras and ended up here (never been interested in owning one though. Must be my liking of unloved cars after owning a few that the mag road tests panned and liking them)

Posted

I had completely forgotten the old site, as recommended in Practical Classics. Used to lurk quite a bit on there!

The current version, like many others it seems, I heard about on the blue forum. Used to be on there a fair bit, but have been on here since, albeit often lurking rather than posting. Retro Rides can be rather amusing and interesting, but I like weird cars! I like that people are trying to save a Princess at this moment, that we know (and care!) what a Rancho is, that owning a 2cv and an old Clio is perfectly acceptable - indeed the 2cv may be one of the more valuable cars involved in the site!  But we can be equal, can mock each other and can disagree - but rarely are there any serious arguments.

PIGEONZ NEST - I'm sure that was the sig on that Saxo banner of Mr B's. I'm guessing some barryboy handle from another forum. Halcyon days.

I found out about here from a mention in the Staff Car Sagas pages of C&SC (Like Practical Classics but 95% unattainable), from that bloke that sunk thousands into his daily driver Citroen GSA. Never did find the reference again when re-reading the mags before offloading them.

Back then, I was living in a small village outside Leeds and had the world's most dire internet dongle signal strength, so viewed everything at mind numbing dial up speeds, which made spotting threads very tiring. A spottedlaurel page could take 15 minutes to load! I was also hooked by Electric Leyland's London spots and nigel bickles Estafette A-frame adventure.

I've met a few people from here both in Britain and NZ but agree that my life would no doubt be a lot more productive if I didn't know about this place.

Mouseflakes recommended it to me when I bought my first XM off him in (I think) 2009 however registration was wonderfully convelluted...

I had a couple of fairly active built threads on RR.

Then Shep said I should post on here. The two threads went on side by side for a while until I became rather disillusioned with RR.

I'm still here.

I discovered this place using the Google search 'people who drive shit cars through choice'.

I thought I was the only person who could possibly love old shite. And I mean shite, I went on some vw forums for a look, Jesus christ, what pretentious walkers.

Piston heads and retro rides no better.

I saw a link on RetroRides to the very sad story about the fire that consumed a collection of cars and wandered in. I think I shall hang around for a while.
