Have I just picked up the worst car in the world?

I thought PT cruiser owners had excellent* taste? Which the previous owner clearly had

See, they're like pit bulls....It's not the dog, it's the owner.    Present company excluded, naturally.

The dog still gets destroyed though, after it passes certain acceptable levels of behavior in a civilised community.

I'd like to find the wannabe-goth who did this.  Nobody else would, at least not all of him.  Poor car, it deserves a hero's end on the track.

I actually find the inability of people to keep things nice rather troubling.

Even, it seems, when it comes to PT Cruisers.

I can see why someone would think a PT Van is a good idea, in fact I think they can look better as a van than a car.

But the half arsed execution and I use that word in both senses for tthis example is shocking

.

Oh , my brother and one of my neighbour's both got there stolen Discoverys returned with those stylish aerosol tints, apparently the Caravan Stealing Community do it so that the Old Bill can't see what's in the back when borrowing* diesel in IBCs.

In my family we now call them Pikey Tints.

I quite like this.

The interior is not the result of cack handed modificationing; it's the ultra-rare "Hill Billy" pack, a factory fitted option. You can distinguish it from the equally rare  "Bronx Axe Murder" pack by the chewed "squeal like a pig" steering wheel.

Looks a bit like someone watched too much "overhaulin" and thought he could make his own rat rod out of it.

Meanwhile, over on retrorides somebody has already said it's got " potential" and someone else has suggested it gets matte blacked and springs cut to deck it.

On the subject of pt cruisers I hired one the first time I went to Florida mit family in tow. I loved it, right up until the point that the overzealous cop pulled a gun on me.

Not good.

Only complaint was with such a big looking vehicle the boot was a bit pants for suitcases, although like anyone else who goes to Florida we bought a million things more than we needed because " it's cheaper over here with the exchange rate".

Probably still got a load of unworn/unpacked stuff from 2002 somewhere ☹ï¸â˜¹ï¸â˜¹ï¸

I spotted a pt locally that had been paint strippered and then the rust lacquered over. Didn't look super terrible actually.

I think there's a VERY fine line, This one is way over it obv but if someone puts some thought into it they can look very good.

Anyway, to cancel out the abject SHITNESS of this dismal Cruiser I picked up this honey today..

It's done 220k but looks like 50k. 90BHP Hdi, it's the cleanest Xantia estate Iv'e seen in years, even the rear door shuts look good. It has an LHM leak but I think it's the brake valve return pipe.

Posted

That mystery damage on the headliner looks like someone pulled the grab handle out with brute force as part of the "van conversion".

Posted

Brakes don't have a return line do they? If it's the flexi from the front strut, then it's suspension return and a very common fault - and easy to sort too.

Posted

If it is the strut return, if it's snapped right at the plastic housing where the pipe goes on, just pull the broken bit off and push the pipe back on - job done!

Posted

Yeah, the dousier valve (or however it's spelled) has a return back to the lhm tank. It goes brittle and fractures at the valve. It's really hard to get to but with a long screwdriver the pipe can be pushed off, cut down a bit and pushed back on, a small jubilee clip holding it in place.
