They did indeed have Perkins V8s and sound bloody brilliant.

Its nice to see an EC still working too. There's one I see every now and again that does container traffic out of Grangemouth that never fails to raise a smile.

I seem to remember reading in my Observers book that they could be had with the Rolls Royce V8 petrol engine too.

Quite a few ECs around here on bulk tippers, PC Howards still use them for short haul as well. And then of course over in Staffs there is JCB's fleet of ERFs.... kin loads of them!!

A LAD cab in NBC leaf green with dove grey wheels. I think I'm going to have to go and lie in a darkened room for a little while.

IIRC he uses it for work and showing

Imagine my surprise when looking for a cup of tea at Newark showground today, this rocked up...!!

The Gardner engine plant - seems to be much LOL'age going on there  :-)

Some brothers having a kip and a ride on the overhead crane in the crankshaft dept, which would have got us the sack, had the night superintendant not be sleeping in his office.

Can't find pt 3

That's a fine machine, I do like a nice LAD cabbed motor! Yours?

Sadly not - it belongs to a mate of mine. But is a very fine machine and he's done a great job restoring it

Yes-  the long door LAD is one of the best looking cabs imho

FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

Now that is almost beyond belief, doesn't bear thinking about if something did go pop on that trailer

From video 2...

Note the white markings on the one chassis beam. With no brakes to talk of - and heavily overloaded - the driver said he steered into the pavements to slow down and stop.

The irony is that the driver just probably paid a bribe and was seen on his way.

Looks like an ex uk truck - sounds like the driver had some driving skills

Never seen anything as bad as that, how that trailer didn't break its back i have no idea,  to sum up, bald bulging split and shredded tyres, missing wheelnuts, welded springs and spring hangers and virtually no brakes except for a seriously imbalanced on the drive axle.

Driver needs certifying or a medal, not sure which.

Thanks Scruff.

That video is incredible. I don't think there was anything right with it. Nice Foden though.

I think VOSA would send you to the firing squad if you got caught with a POS like that over here

Ive just watched all 4 parts of that truck story on you tube . Scary stuff, im not sure if i would want to stand beside it let alone drive it.

Posted

Yep, the cameraman was a braver man than me going under that thing in the putt [sic].  If it had broken its back he would have been buried under 40 tonnes of scrap steel.

Funnily enough the tractor unit didn't look too bad at first glance.  The trailer was something else entirely.

That Foden set up was bloody frightening. that trailer looked set to let go at any moment. I'm quite glad that even the cowboys over here aren't as bad as that.

Posted

I wonder if it had of broken in the test lane and damaged the site , would the owner of the truck be liable for the damage ?

Posted

It looks like the belly of the trailer had been modified (badly) to carry more load. I wonder if it was stuck on a weigh bridge what the total would come to. Looks really lethal. Would keep inspectors over here busy for yonks and most likely bring in a year's worth of fines in a day.

In one of the videos they said the options for the driver would be get it fixed or get it towed - what the hell would you tow that with??

I was wondering if the intention was to scrap the trailer along with its load
