Now some look familiar, but some are purpose built EV's, where's the western equivalent to those?

The Chinese are making significant in-roads in motorbike and car sales. There's a few Chinese busses starting to appear. Mystic martc predicts that they will have their sights on the wests HGV industry in the next decade.

Oh dear, there’s some truly dreadful looking knock off stuff there, can’t see Brit or European operators giving any of that shit any consideration now or in the near future, unless I can drive a diesel Scania I will give it up!

The Chinese are taking over the world , no doubt about it. No wars needed, we are truly fucked.

I started typing an opinion about my employer than would probably get me sacked. So I'll sick to what's in the public domain.  We are working on EVs. Drivers like them.

The thing about the truck industry is that fleet managers will make a decision based on a spreadsheet.  If there's a question over reliability or manufacturer support, they might choose to keep 99% of their fleet as it is but trial 1%  and with an 8 year replacement cycle they will gradually increase the percentage as they become more confident about the risks

I'll stick this here as given the commercial use of it, I'd say it qualifies as a truck.

I have been coming to Oulton Park since the early 90s, and whilst the circuit has seen countless changes over the years, a couple of things remain pleasingly constant. One such thing is the hired help for recovery at the club meetings. I believe these still get used as normal during the week too, god knows what mileage they must be on by now!

It's a coach, I know, but it's being used commercially as a mobile showroom for Derbi motorbikes, sometime in the 1970's.

Any idea what coach it's based on?

Below are photos from the Worth factory which started assembling lorries in July, 1965 making it 60 years old. In fact it's a little older than that (opening in Oct 1963) as it was first used to make cabs only. It is now the main factory for heavy lorries.

When looking at this it's amazing how outdated UK trucks were compared to European trucks.

A documentary series about the history of trucking in New Zealand can recommend this is a lot of interesting stuff here, as one who bought over 1200 ww2 army GMC 6x6 trucks that helped build New Zealand after the war.  And I'm not allowed to post the videos directly here, don't know why.

The Chinese are currently making very substantial inroads into the UK bus & coach market, and not even just with EVs - Yutong coaches are popping up all over the place in vast numbers, just in plain old diesel form. Five or ten years ago you didn’t see them, now everybody is buying them. Why? As with all Chinese output, they’re cheap and plentiful; they’ll undercut British or european stuff and it’ll arrive tomorrow (not literally, but they’ll have it there pretty damned quick). Supposedly the quality is comparable to contemporary european stuff, although of course it’s early days in terms of longer term longevity and support. You’d have to be very sheltered not to think that there won’t be Chinese made lorries on our roads in the near future!

Which might explain why PACCAR Inc share price isn’t showing much growth (DAF, Peterbilt, Kenworth, PACCAR Parts, Dynacraft, Joint Venture in Battery -Amplify in Mississipi).  Analysists know the competition is way ahead, and throwing more money at it.

They won’t last long. The novelty will wear off when something breaks down and you can’t get parts for 4 months for one reason or another. The japs make trucks for the uk market but they are built from poor materials and lightweight to reduce overall weight, this makes them difficult to service and maintain. Mitsubishi canters have 8 calipers! And their parts are expensive in comparison to European stuff. Once hauliers realise there’s no backing for the cheap products they buy, they stick to the stuff they can actually keep on the road.

Some Google sleuthing suggests it’s one of these:

Which, apparently, is an Ayats Pegaso. No idea what the chassis might be though!
