The circus was in town when I went to visit a friend yesterday. A small show with only three trucks but they're all interesting: an ERF and two all-wheel drive ex-snowploughs.

BUTEC. There was a JV between AEC and Leyland that built Trolleybuses and some electrical equipment.

It was called British United Traction- BUT.

BUTEC emerged from that company. I think they had a factory in Leyland or nearby.

I ran a Jaguar XJ with Butec alternator and starter motor that never caused any problems.

This inflatable rubber giraffe is on it's way to the British Industries Fair at Olympia, in 1935. Note the Mercedes lorry - how unusual is that?

Former LB&SCR class A1X loco No. W11 'Newport' returning to the Isle of Wight on the 27th of January 1973. She was withdrawn from service on the 27th of September 1963 as BR No. 32460, when she was purchased by Sir Billy Butlin. She was repainted in a yellow livery and was displayed at Pwllheli Holiday Camp until 1973 when she was shipped back to the Island and to her home at Havenstreet.

I can't quite explain it, but there's something about this one. Is it AI made?

Many decades later I caught this at the Isle of Wight:

20181002_183012.jpeg.382823447c985bbc23f64ce8b7584a82.jpeg

20181002_183010.jpeg.62a8a3d37b70372e946c750e9ed0cabc.jpeg

I was in the queue to return to the mainland after doing some work on the island and while waiting this rig came off the incoming ferry.
British Rail class 03 diesel, which was one of the two or three of them that were sent to the island line to work engineers trains for track maintenance etc etc.

Not the best photo’s but it was a spur of the moment opportunity!
