Not seen many abandoned trucks, but here is one near our family home. Going to be towed away this week, been sat there for months.711170276_DAFLFI.jpg.13f6c8044d42598104ee8858777f0ccb.jpg524659282_DAFLFII.jpg.bb680035e2533b1f898348d02021d010.jpg

Taking part in Ayrshire Classic Commercial roadrun next weekend from Cumnock to Portpatrick. Usually over 100 old trucks take part.

There was a big truck meet in Norway recently, unfortunately I couldn't be there, but I found a picture of a special one who attended.

This is a 1954 FWD made in Wisconsin USA with a big for the time Cumming diesel and 6x6. This was sold new in Norway and was in use until the 1980s. Trucks like this were used for heavy transport during the construction of our many hydroelectric plants.

Can't directly add a video of starting this, so add a link below. And I can imagine how wonderful the sounds this must make on steep slopes with heavy loads.

I've started to wonder what is the most produced truck of all time?

I have struggled to find info about this but would guess it is the Zil 130 with almost 3.4 million produced. Does anyone know of any that were produced in higher numbers?

Do you include vans as trucks and different generations of the same name?

If so the Transit, Ford E series and VW Transporter have sold 8-10m each but they were across different models and ages.

Thinking of both a model series sold under the same name as the Corolla, and a model sold almost without changes like the Zil.

And I was thinking of a real truck and not a pickup, van, etc.

Just returned from New Zealand and there was some properly tidy metal on display there. Lots of yank wagons (mainly Kenworth & Mack) in right hand drive. :D

Local tipper company was running Kenworths. Snapped this while waiting in the Friday afternoon rush.

They also had a load of older KWs but I was always driving when I spotted them and couldnt take pictures. So I robbed one off the net.  :D

Big rigids (oo-er) and trailers seemed to be the thing for haulage. Again no photos from me as it was dark when I got to work and local deliveries happened, so another robbed from the net.

Not sure what this is, but it was making some impressive noise dragging a big ass excavator up the main hill in Queenstown.

NZ is interesting - Japanese trucks are sold alongside familiar European models in strange configurations. Some North American stuff too but it's usually stuff for the international market like the International 9800, very few long nose tractors

Cute Katica concrete mixer (apparantly) in front of the Hungarian Parliament, Budapest District I., Hungarian People's Republic, 1970.

I'm struggling to find any info on Katica

Here is a couple of pics from the Ayrshire road run this weekend as promised. Can't get them round the right way.20230708_095937.thumb.jpg.3810dd18ee57bd4646ca37b6c93ffcaa.jpg20230708_095959.thumb.jpg.85054322ef8c2b36db3a1f977f94eda4.jpg20230708_095551.thumb.jpg.a1b48e99af191c7eb9583315576a4742.jpg20230708_094519.thumb.jpg.ecece2d95c787578239a22188e594d72.jpg20230710_125748.thumb.jpg.4836dbef98c5452b01766c49095d89f8.jpg20230708_095701.thumb.jpg.2d27b54b11dcd3dd92e4774e3e045d60.jpg

Yes, almost all the dump trucks were Yanks, but in right hand drive. All the 8 wheel rigids were Euro wagons and the Japanese were small local flat beds, or  delivery trucks. A couple of big KW tractor units pulling containers.

I know very little about Trucks.

But I suspect that in a few weeks, my learning curve will be intense.

New job in engineering department starts in 2 and a bit weeks at Leyland Trucks, in erm..Leyland. all branded Daf.

Company owned by Paccar.

I may post again.

This is titled 'Miners' I guess they're on strike and are discussing the finer details of labour relations with the lorry driver. I rather like these Dodges, if I ran a haulage company in the '70's it would be full of Dodges (and Fodens).

Any idea what this is? It's in Leipzig, there's a Fortschritt tractor and IFA to the right and a Russian lorry in the background, so I guess it's from Eastern Europe. Below the grille there's a name starting with an I and ending with P but I can't make out the middle possibly 3 letters - could contain R A M N or W.

After some searching, I found out that this is a Tramp 60 built in East Germany in small numbers for transport of containers.

Thanks, that's one I hadn't heard of. So my interpretation of the badge contained some of the correct letters....

Looking at some pictures some of them are carrying Robur badges presumably because they used Robur engines, in the way that many UK lorries had Gardner or Rolls Royce badges along with their makers logo.

The badge on this makes it easier to identify.

I didn't know about these until today either. And I think it's more than just the engine that is Robur, the cabin is very similar so it's probably a Robur cabin and when I study pictures of these I see that they are front wheel drive can clearly see the drive shaft going to the front axle from a transfer box. So it makes me wonder are these a 4x4 Robur with the rear end cut off? I think so.

But fascinating trucks didn't know such a thing existed.

Paccar

Pacific Car and Rail Foundry I think. One of the prime contractors for making tanks in WW2, along with other US locomotive suppliers.

Also made these.

I visited the Leyland factory ten or so years ago. They make all DAF RHD products and all LFs and all CF65s. Most of the parts are imported but the Cummins B series engines in those models are sourced from Darlington and their axles are from AAC who operate from the old Albion factory in Glasgow. Their bigger trucks all use DAF parts from the Benelux.
