Hold the front page.

Gumtree ad. Makes up a load of bollocks about a bug eye Scorpio and we're all getting moist.

WTF ? Scorpio Cosworth- no such thing- that's why it's rare.

3.0 ???? Really ?

Lots of history- meaningless. A pile of MOT's and receipts for tyres most likely.

Only 12 left of 192- bollocks - there were thousands of 24valve Scorpios - if it was a Ghia with the big half leather wing back Recaros- I'd concede it might be a bit rare, but a regular Ultima?

So £1250 for a Scorp that needs bodywork? Nah, y'alright mate.

I don't know enough about them to comment on what NNW says but it also had several advisories for corrosion last MOT, which runs out on the 1st of October.

Engine and box would be nice in a Scimitar eh?

capri gear can also put you in touch with someone who is experienced with the BOB loom so you can send it to him and have it stripped back, modified etc instead of using a BOA loom

The fountain of all truth* that is Wikipedia said that Cosworth Scorpio is such a thing. Ok it's engine spec, but it is still the top spec (I believe, I'm no Ford expert) as a Ultima.

May not be your cup of tea, but a Scorpio in itself is a rare thing and one with a decent sized engine. Pretty? No. Desirable? To most, no. But this is AutoShite...

Perhaps I'm missing your point here but Ford did indeed make a Scorpio with the 2.9 24v Cosworth engine. A real beast of a lump.

I rather thought the Ultima was the top of the range with the snazzy leather, while the Ghia was the mid-range version and Executive the povvo model?

I think the point is they never made a Scorpio Cosworth like they did Sierra and Escort.

They made a Scorpio and got Cosworth to fiddle with the engine and sell them a load of badges, so that is a Scorpio Ultima with the 24v Cosworth engine.

Not sure the seller is guilty of anything more than not really understanding the late 1990s Scorpio range though so hold off the firing squad.

The Cosworth in the Sierra was basically a pinto with a twin OHC head and a turbo, the pinto was already OHC, whereas the 2.9 was based on the OHV Cologne which became a twin OHC in the Cosworth 24V.  It must have been more work to do the Cologne than the Pinto.

Granada Scorpio 2.9 24 Valves and bug eye Scorpio Ultima 24 valves were obviously a thing , I've even owned one . The BOA is a nice lump and even in Granada could shift a bit, although when new they were never quite as fast or desired as Senator 3.0 24 valves, even though both were supposed to have 204bhp.

They were never sold or marketed as ' Scorpio Cosworths'.

They were never rare.

The 24v was available in Ghia trim in the bug eye and is very rare- I've only ever seen one( and that didn't have the Recaros, that were never available in full leather Ultimas)

Sorry for not been clear ,I sometimes forget not everyone is as much of a Granada anorak as I am.

I've owned nearly as many Mk1,2 and 3 Granadas and Scorpios as Junkman so they are definitely my cup of tea, this particular one is not worth £1250 . The seller even mentions the bodywork needs attention. If the engine is sound , then for about £7/800 it will make a perfect donor for a Capri, XR4x4 , Scimitar etc.

People may decry ' engine rape' but these and Omegas are at the very bottom of their desirability curve right now , I'd love the 4 headed monster that's in the proper thread though.

If i won lots of money id love to smoke around in one, always loved the interior.

Would a leather Scorpio drivers seat fit a xantia?

I'm pretty sure those Recaros weren't Ghia linked, I think there was an option pack for Ultima, maybe Ghia too, with the Recaros in leather or fabric, the 12 spoke 17" wheels and other stuff. This would have been around the time that the Scorp' had the same 16" rims as standard the Mondeo Ghia.

Not sure why I'm trying to publicly come out as a Scorpio licker, though.

You could be right about the Sport Pack being available on Ultimas too. But I think you had to downgrade to half leather and they weren't electric so you you would basically be reducing your Ultima to a Ghia with aircon !

I remember speccing up an Ultima 24V Estate for an old boss who I still did some work for after he retired and those 16" Mondeo Ghia type wheels were extra cost. He drove that Scorpio for more than 10 years and preferred driving it to his Seraph , when he died his Mrs gave it to the gardener.

I had those same seats in my 93 Scorpio estate, they aren't as comfortable as they look, they particularly lack lateral support.

Really? Well that's a childhood memory shattered! They look properly plush and sinky!

I'm a bit of a Granada botherer and currently have a the previous shape Granada 'Cosworth' I think the argument over the cosworth name is that Ford never marketed it as such (nor badged it externally) some say it was to keep insurance down and to try and make them less desirable to thieves (being a Granada probably achieved this all on its own) but it was never officially known as "The Granada\Scorpio Cosworth"

£1250 doesn't strike me as particularly cheap for this one, they seem to get given away on ebay for <£1000 on a reasonably regular basis, arguably £1250 is cheap for a car that delivers all that luxury and performance and stylish* good* looks, but beware, I can't speak for the BOB, but certainly my experience of the BOA is that high milers are plagued by a variety of oil leaks, electrical faults, perished wiring resulting in gearbox and injector faults.  Parts are not that easy to come by and many are cosworth specific, timing chains are a known weak point and prohibitively expensive\complex to replace, there isn't a huge community following to draw on for info..not to mention the usual 90's Ford tin worm issues.

My advice would be to only buy one if you have a reasonable clue about cars and how to fix them, they're not a simple car and if you don't have the DIY skills or willingness to fix things yourself they'll get very expensive very quickly.
