BMC/BL Rally & Spares Day photos

Yesterday was the annual BMC/BL Rally & Spares Day at Nene Park in Peterborough so this year i took my little Dolomite down with Oldford of this parish following Cortinaboy down in his Marina. Amazingly for BL old junk both cars made the long trip with ease and with no dramas, who would believe it hey.

Anyway here's the photos that I took.

The first car i immediately latched onto was this very very early Maestro 1.3 HLE, registered in the first month of release it had covered 41000 miles and really was very tidy with just a little scab on the roof. It was up for £795 ono which seemed very fair considering. I'm still kinda tempted but i've never really liked them!.

Another Ital Van, this time a ex genuine BT van, this isn't the one that had banded wheels but is part of the same fleet of vans. This one's like new and only recently back on the road again.

There was a disappointing lack in Dolomites and there wasn't even a stand, we had to rough it with the commoners, I think there was about 5 in total including mine.

Nice pics, Mr Trigger, thank you.

Those wheels look slightly disconcerting on that Harvest Gold 1.3, though - a bit like Aunty Doris with an ankle bracelet.   Also, I know you CAN now fit black and whites on an M reg but that still doesn't make it look right....

Standard blood box is awesome, as is that Ensign wagon next to the Zody.

Must do this one year - I am sure there will be something up there that I need to buy.....

I don't think I've seen this one before, It's a Metro Tickford, the only only bought it the day before to restore, It was originally black and he hoped to put it back to black.

I hope so, That was pretty hopeless, the black Marina coupe with the Ital front end was there though.

Look at the angle of the seat bases in that Metro Tickford, you are gonna feel like such a bell end sat squashed up in those. Great car.

hi Trigg,

yes the white G-reg metro is mine, in between getting sunburn and spending the money in the Autojumble we didnt see anyone we know apart from Derek and Gloria, Derek owns the red Princess 2, he had sold it, only to buy it back a few months later. the car has been floating about on ebay recently with a £6500 starting bid, and no takers....

oh and Derek didn't tell Gloria that he had bought the car back until after he had gone and brought it back home! a brave man!!

i did wonder whether the beige mark one metro was RobT's, especially since we were parked next to it!!

also, was it just me, or was there less autojumble this year compared with previous shows?

Posted

Looked a good show, loads of nice cars there.

I love the rough old Westy though. It's done well to avoid the oval! I'd love to have a Farina Westy of one form or another at some point.

Posted

I had a prior engagement unfortunately else I would have been all over this, great show with a high "mental" content so GR9 for people watching as well as some lovely motors. Excellent pics all. Many A30s/A35s there?

Posted

I've only recently learnt to appreciate just how fit Maestros are, in all their octagonal glory.

Major SPLOOF on that 820SI, for obvious reasons. How very crisp those things looked, and how very crispy they all went.

Posted

Some great photos here. Agree that the beige Maestro looks good value!

no pic sadly cos the batteries had gone flat...... yes i know, foto skilz fail....

but it was a really beautiful, and rear? little thing!!

there was alsorts, including a '61 caddie, an 80's mustang, alsorts. in fact there was something for everyone!

If a genuine one it would have been an A35.   No idea how many left but they built about 500 I think.

Almost completely useless as a carrying thing but cuter than a Playboy bunny with a lisp.

I was very taken by the beige Maestro, being such an early car and very very original.

Good to see a few Autoshiters. Sixcylinder, RobT, oldford, cortinaboy, trigger and Captain Slow off the top of my head. Also very happy and surprised when I went back to the red Maestro at the end of the day, to find it had won a trophy for best Austin-Rover Maestro! Did not expect that, it had no preparation before going and my dad's been using it as his daily runabout for ages now. In fact I'm pretty sure it's the first car show it's ever been to.

Posted

I had no idea you had TWO Meastros, Dicky! That's something you should definitely drop into conversation with the ladies.

Thanks again trigger, I'm running out of superlatives for all your fab shots. Personal faves are the green Ital, late yellow Maxi and yellow Metro S and anything in Applejack, on the basis of colours alone. Good amount of people sitting in garden chairs, too. Any trinkets of note, such as the wooden table with a MiniMetro's number plate carved in to it?

MG1100 in that colour is a real part of my childhood.....Bloke down our road had one exactly the same, it was well before I started school and amidst all the knackered side valve Fords and back-firing Ariel combinations it seemed like a Rolls Royce.    Lovely, isn't it!

Posted

Thanks for all the pictures, Going to make sure i can get to this next year, seems like my kind of show. Any campsites nearby?

Posted

My friend organises this (the baton was passed from his late grandfather)

He was properly worried this year, as his Mrs is heavily pregnant, and he HAD to be in that field getting that stuff shuffled around on the day.

I was going to pop by, but the beetle decided that a coilpack failing in the middle of Market Deeping was more important than me heading over. :(

Same here.  Sorry Marvin, I'm not the best at introducing myself sometimes!  I thought the car looked familiar though.

I do like quite a few, especially the Landcrab Ute, but the one I'd want to take home is the Westminster Estate.
