HH-R Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 They're both wank? MG Are in bed with GM so prob have their blessing.
HH-R Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I seem to have got lost in a time warp and missed a few replies there
HH-R Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 The antara was chevy/daewoo IIRC, the mokka is a corsa on stilts.
Felly Magic Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 It's still a bloody Daewoo, just assembled very badly in Spain. Feck knows how big their bribe to the German version of Auto Excuse was to declare it the best in class, having driven one for nigh on 3000 miles in just over a month, I can officially say it's a pile of hateful shit, with a poor power delivery, demanding upshifts at 2300 rpm, and average fuel economy in the mid-low 20's, and an interior so dark and claustrophobic for such a size, it's a sea of fake leather and brittle black plastic, edged by very sharply moulded silver plastic. Very cheaply made for a car retailing at £25,000.
Guest Lord Sward Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 In fairness to the Spanish, I always found their build quality to be very good.
Felly Magic Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 The Mokka is a CKD kit from South Korea, the Spaniards haven't a hope in nailing them together properly when the kit parts are utter pants. The irritating 'SHIFT' light coming on at just 2300 rpm in a petrol powered vehicle meant the engine was never in it's peak torque band, and laboured, all the power was at much higher revs when the turbo was on boost, and hell fire, did it like a drink then. A heavy car for a tiny 1.4 engine, mated to 4wd. The seats had no support, you felt like you were sitting on them, not in them, and no matter the adjustment, I could not get a comfortable driving position. I can see why at just 12 months old these on the forecourt are half list price. As GM and SAIC are now buddies, I do not think it will be that long before we get Chinese made Vauxhalls and Opels as GM continues to try and slash costs
Guest Lord Sward Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Seriously, CKD or not, the Spanish ones are still better.
Kiltox Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Shit shift lights are standard in moderns - drove my gaffer's Audi A3 TDI the other day and it wanted 6th gear at 40mph - no wonder DMF/DPF failure is so common on diesels!
cobblers Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Yeah, my 500 has got this "shift up" or "shift down" arrow that pops up on the screen like directions on Colin Mcrae Rally on the playstation. It's so fuckin demanding. Shift up comes on at 2000rpm, then shift down comes on at about 1650. I wish I could turn it off TBH because it's tiresome to try and drive like it suggests just so you can eek it up to 35mpg instead of 34.
HH-R Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Fuck me. The Antara. Shite. They're reasonably popular round here, what's up with 'em?
Guest Lord Sward Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 They're popular as they are very cheap for what they are. As for whats wrong with them, I wouldn't know where to begin.
Lacquer Peel Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I know someone with an Antara and he likes it, interested to hear about their problems. Is GM Korea so bad?
rml2345 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Dunno about the Antara but I can echo Felly's experience of the Mokka, although I found the build quality to be pretty decent.Mine was a disiesel automatic with a ride like a plank and I was glad to see it go back after a week. If the MG Crossover-Thing is similar they'll probably sell really well.
Felly Magic Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 That Mokka is just a pointless car, same goes for this new Chinese takeaway. It's time these horrid things were nailed to the wall with at least a grand VED, because they all have a drink problem, and weigh as much as a church, and visibility out is piss poor, no wonder they need parking sensors, and reverse cams, because all the stupidly thick pillars and tiny windows create no end of blind spots, you may as well drive em blindfolded. The only thing that Mokka had going for it was the Bluetooth, after lots of swearing, and umpteen sub menus to delete previous parings, as the memory was full The Reverend Bluejeans, xtriple, Vince70 and 1 other 4
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 voxal mocker in shite shocker HH-R and scruff 2
taxi paul Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I had a Chevrolet ,GM. Captiva. Lovely looking car but 6 months out of three year warranty at 55,000 miles I had a bill of £1,500 for a throttle body what went wobbly. They then found an oil leak. Due to the fact that they use a sealer and not gaskets it can , on occasion depending where leak is. Be an engine out job with a bill of around £3,500. There are a few tales of the auto gearboxes imploding with a replacement cost of £9,000. Some at just over three years old. I thought that because they are built in Korea it may be like a Hyundai or Kia. Silly me, it soon got traded in.
HH-R Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 The Mokka, Captur, Puke, Cashcow et al are all pointless really, but it allows people to feel safe because they're high up whilst driving like tossers. Lacquer Peel, 155V6, Vince70 and 2 others 5
Parky Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Mrs P has a 500x. That's high up and she drives like a tosser so there might be some truth in what you say there. I drive it like a tosser too. Because I don't like it very much
Timewaster Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I have told the story on here about the Antera company car that was so uunreliable that the lease company accepted it back after 2 years into a 5 year lease.
Guest Lord Sward Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I wrote the warranty cheques for them on behalf of GM. dugong and Lacquer Peel 2
dugong Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 In front of the BHS in Queensgate shopping centre, Peterborough. Oddly appropriate. Jim Bergerac, scruff and oldcars 3
Noel Tidybeard Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 the advert for this MGGS has been on tv- seem to have been filmed (on the cheap?) around cofton park and the new houses thereabouts if you look carefully you can see a red and white NXTWM bus in the back ground!

The opening shot appears to be a zoomed in still and the hand actor seemed to have difficulty getting third. Dire.

chaseracer Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 As GM and SAIC are now buddies, I do not think it will be that long before we get Chinese made Vauxhalls and Opels as GM continues to try and slash costs Doesn't bode well for Ellesmere Port...
Laseraligningfoofooflanges Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Blue one passed me the other day, Not that bad looking if im honest.. And i find most moderns gopping But i wouldnt take one over mg ZR ZS rover 75 level tat.
Pillock Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 It's alright bemoaning the visibility and weight and all that shit, but they're predominantly dictated by NCAP ratings and whatnot - you just won't score well if you have pencil-thin A pillars and the floorpan strength of a rusty Metro. So they're not going to be any worse than a similar sized car, really. Everyone told the Chinese car manufacturers they were bad people when they were building super light knockoffs that had about as much rigidity in a crash as a paper bag.... now they made strong, proper cars and they're still getting shit for it
angle Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 As GM and SAIC are now buddies, I do not think it will be that long before we get Chinese made Vauxhalls and Opels as GM continues to try and slash costsAlready started - there's loads of the buggers (including the Mokka) being built and sold out there as Buicks, and they've announced they're going to start shipping some of them into the US from Shanghai. Until Trump bombs them or whatever, anyway.
