Six-cylinder Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I went to Chiltern Hills show near Aylesbury yesterday and amongst the usual classic cars there were a couple that court my eye because you see so few of them. The Question is, which of these two would you want to drive home in?
KruJoe Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I do like the Dattie's style, but Mk1 Corolla coup for me please! strangeangel 1
garbaldy Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 All these modern cars look the same.I wouldn't say no to both. mercrocker and Dick Cheeseburger 2
Spottedlaurel Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Both are cars I’ve seen at various shows over the years. The 100A in particular is in excellent condition and was restored by someone I know who works at an Aston Martin specialist. It’s been sold once or twice since then, glad it seems to be with someone who’s getting out and about in it. Which would I choose? Probably the 100A, as the Corolla is too much like my 1200.
smellypoo Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I prefer the styling of the Toyota, but if the Datsun were a 120Y saloon I'd want that! It'd be purely for nostalgia really as my uncle had a string of them back in the early 80's, cheap reliable transportation which to my eyes actually looked pretty good - esp. the binnacle on the dash! Saying about it being reliable.... Dad swapped the engine with a unit from the scrappy (out on the street outside the house, much to my mums annoyance) when my uncles engine seized on the M1 coming down from Leicester and he was towed the rest of the way. Apparently it was not too difficult to swap out, with a hired hoist!
Dick Cheeseburger Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Datsun is a honey. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's been in the same family ownership for years, as well. Pretty sure it's the same one PC did a feature one few years back. I bet either would make a great daily driver.
Felly Magic Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Deffo the Datty, due to us having one in the early 1980s and it was a funky little car, that was mechanically tough as old boots stripped fred 1
cort1977 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Datsun for me please. But as the Taco advert says - why not both?
Ghosty Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Toyota - I've not seen one before and it looks cool. Seen a lot of Dats by comparison!
rml2345 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Has to be the Corolla coupé for me too as it's just so damn stylish. Give us a go in the Datsun as well please...
Six-cylinder Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 I like the looks of the Toyota by a nose. By my counting it seems the Datsun just wins 7 to 5.
nigel bickle Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Datsun by a mile please But then , I do have a pair if 1966 vested interests.. Six-cylinder 1
mercrocker Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Drove examples of both when fairly common used cars....My money would go on the Toyota. Also, it manages to have US compact and Italian styling overtones which definitely seals it for me....
captain_70s Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Corolla, it's the prettier and less common of the two. Also it's a 2-door for maximum OMG JDM DORIFTO ACTION.
