All this talk of the XUD and HDi feeling slow with 90bhp just makes me laugh.

Both my 306s ended up with considerably more power than standard. Whatever I get will end up the same. I love tuning XUDs. However, with that bloody intercooler pipe in the way, the fuel screws on the pump look difficult to get to on a Xantia!

I would happily take a decent condition 306 or 405 or even a 406 too though. Like I said, anything PSA and turbo diesel.

I really appreciate the replies in this thread!

This may not happen immediately and I'm warming to the idea of timing it to coincide with shitefest so I have more choice of where to collect from.

I've owned a bloody non turbo diesel Xantia and that was fine once it was up to speed, the only frustration was tailing others cars around the corners and not having the grunt to pass them on the straights.

Have you thought about other Bosch VE turbo diesels? The principles behind tuning them are the same.

Here's an oddball XUD9TE choice closer to home, at least I think it's a TD, the pics are terrible but I can just about make out the 'flying saucer' boost compensator on top of the pump.

Thought about Bosch VE turbo diesels?!

I bloody converted my first (1997) Peugeot 306 from a Lucas to a Bosch! It took me a whole weekend, but it definitely paid off. :D

I had a 110 HDi, only thing to go wrong was the backbox snapped due to corrosion and the heater matrix started weeping, k seal fixed it.

Buy it.

I can't share it on this phone but there's a rather nice green R plate 2.1TD Desire with leather on Autotrader.

If it's the one I saw the the other night, it's almost a grand too, when all the other Xantias are half that, even the minty ones.

This one. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201602261420801

Why pay almost a grand for that, when this one is available for under £400? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201603031621179

Citroen made a few ultra rare* special editions, which are worth keeping your eye out for. They could be worth serious* money in the future.

First up, the Xantia pickup de merde:

And secondly, the Xantia mobilebatmobile:

If you didn't want potential service costs, I'd imagine the Xantia in GTA San Andreas is relatively cheap to run, as well.

Check FCF (FrenchCarForums) as they're the Xantia hub these days and have loads for sale occasionally.

I loved ours, it was a 1.8 petrol in doom blue. Swapped it for a Mondeo estate which was also a great motor.

Picking a 1.8 16V pez one up soon (hopefully) so will report back on what happens when you read all thus good advice after buying one with short MOT that has only been seen down a telephone.

Ha! I was just looking at the thread where that one was shown, and you were mentioned in relation to it.

God speed!

I mean other cars with a Bosch VE pump, though I can't think of any as prolific as XUDs.

What about a non-rusty Mercedes C250 turbo diesel? Not a distributor pump, an in-line pump instead but they're a nice drive, quick and very tuneable.

Literally smoking about in an old Merc does sound appealing...

I have one, it's great for gliding over speedbumps other than that it's a bit meh... Would rather have a 305 or a 309... Oh wait, I do.

I was on the verge of buying that one, then you and your lack of enthusiasm for it beat me to it! :P

I like Xantias.

XM wagons are growing on me as well.

get an appointment at the docs- they can prescrinbe a cream to cure that!

if left untreated it'll turn into CXs and be much harder to clear:)

It may be for sale, driving it makes me want to puke.

Yeah, but is that the boat-like suspension or the state of the interior causing that?

It's either the boat like suspension, the diesel fumes or the smell of cheap aftershave on the seatbelts, I'm not sure which...

Well... perhaps we could work something out.

I really, really liked my gaffer's very early sinker. It probably helped that it was one of the most original, low mileage turbo XUDs out there (16,000 miles on the engine!) And that it was the best spec (ie, quite low so tweedy seats and no keypad). Didn't handle anywhere near as well as a BX but it rode slightly better over rough surfaces and went along at a fair old lick.

I don't really care about crash safety and that codswallop, but this was (sadly) probably it's best test; in a lot of other cars we wouldhave been very hurt or worse. It doesn't look like a bad crash, but it was - the whole thing was bent (rear doors wouldn't close properly) but we walked away totally unharmed. It's just a shame I had to kill such a nice car to prove it

If remember correctly, the Rover 200 (R8) used the XUD engine's, both N/A & Turbo....

But you'd have to keep in mind that I'd be forever trying to get the car off you! :P

The turbo diesel is possibly the most hateful engine/car I've ever had the misfortune to work on, and I work on 60's Alfa Romeos for gods sake.

Typical situation; need to change something that's right there at the top of the engine. Easy peasy.

Actual solution; take entire engine apart to get to it. After that it's a 2 minute job.
