Fiat Scudo van for sale - £250

I haven't had this that long, but to be honest I don't have any real need for it (or at least I won't in a couple of days once I've brought the Spacy home from the garage) so it's time for it to go to a new home.

It's a Scudo EL 1.9D, powered by the good old Peugeot DW8 engine.  Being an EL it's quite basic, with no electric windows or central locking or anything fancy like that, but I'm old fashioned and I think that's the way vans should be anyway.

I'll start with the bad points, of which there are a number.

-It has a few dents, which can sort of be seen in the pictures (getting dents to show up on a digital photo of a white vehicle is a bit of a task).  These have led to it being a Category Something at some point in the past (logbook doesn't say which category, and being a van it wouldn't have needed a VIC check for a Cat C anyway).  These are nothing too major though, and none of them affects the operation of any of the doors.

-The gearbox crunches into second gear unless you take it slowly.  Pretty much par for the course with these vans.

-Driver's door doesn't lock / unlock from the outside, side loading doors likewise.  Again a common fault.  Passenger and rear door locks work fine.

-The heater fan switch and / or rheostat has obviously packed up at some point.  A previous owner has wired in an on / off switch so the fan does work, but on quite a low setting, so it takes a while to demist.  Better than nowt though.

-The wipers are a bit slower than I'd expect, and they also park a little way up the screen, although not enough to be a problem.

-The driver's and passengers' seats don't match.

-The radio works but has a tendency to lose its presets, so needs retuning quite often - I think the permanent live might be dodgy.

-It's not very fast.  This is a characteristic of the model rather than a fault with this van, but it's worth mentioning.  It'll do 70 if you need it to, but it takes its sweet time getting there.

-The engine has a Prince of Darkness pump so no good for veg.

OK, if you're still reading, here are the good bits:

-It starts first time every time, doesn't overheat or smoke and the engine sounds quite healthy

-Lights, indicators, horn etc. all work

-Lack of power aside, it actually drives quite nicely - handles well enough and it's quite comfortable, brakes are good

-It has a full bulkhead behind the seats, with a window so you'd be able to see out to reverse if the rear door windows hadn't been painted over

-It's MOT'd until August, and will have "get you home" tax

-I've ordered a Fiat badge for the front grille, which will be fitted by the time the van is sold

That's about all I can think of at this time of night - if I remember anything else I'll add it in.  Mileage is 180-odd thousand.  Van is in NE Norfolk.

Had the pug version of this at work. Legendary grip on the corners, so much your arse slid out the drivers seat.

If anybody needs a lift home northwards - the further north the better - from the general location of this, I'll buy it and they can drive it - on my insurance. It doesn't warrant expense on collection, but like the telly with the knackered volume control, you can't really turn it down at that price.

Genuine get you home free offer.

Based on that description it's better than one I nearly paid £600 for not long ago - BARGAIN.

What is it with you and van gearboxes lol.

Ace looking van these. No use for one but that does not forbid internet wantage.

Do these have standard PSA gearboxes?

I think so, they aren't great fun to remove though.

Sorry but I'm now into a swap for Volvo. Else I'd have been very interested

Well I've had the usual response from the Gumtree advert - two no shows and one clown offering half the asking price.  I would have thought there'd be a bit of demand for a cheap useable van (it's the cheapest MOT'd van on my local Gumtree by a country mile), but it would appear not. :?

Did you forget to put POSS DAY VAN/CAMPER/MINIBUS in the title?

Seriously though, that's mega-cheap for ANY working van! I am considering one of these for future XM replacement, but sadly I require a turbocharger because HILLS and TOWING.

I was just wondering if it's too cheap. "Must be knackered!" There's some absolute shit for sale with a far higher asking price. Get some fresh pics and double your asking.

I did wonder whether I was being a bit too "honest" with my description on Gumtree.  Maybe I'd be better off not being so explicit about all the faults in the ad?  None of them are terminal after all, and it's not like on here where somebody might decide to buy it sight unseen.  I might try taking some better pics and then putting it on Autotrader for moar money.

Milf - Lucas, alas.

I've never understood the logic of the 'too cheap' thing; no more than I can understand some Scumtree onanist offering you £125.

A running and MOTd one of these for £250 is a bargain, simple as.

£250 does seem too cheap IMO, the last van I had was a 220k mile n/a berlingo that was pretty shagged, I advertised it at 500 and got 450 from the first person to come and see it.

Yup, too cheap, I paid £400 for mine and I cursed myself for being a tightwad when the clutch went shortly afterwards!
