I'm a Berwicker... Lived on Tyneside for about a decade but moved back up about three years ago. In Coldstream a couple of times a week :)

Yes I love the colt ragging it about makes me feel like I'm 17 again.

Had one of them when I was about 18. The only memorable thing about it was getting stuck laid flat on my back with the gearbox I'd just dropped pinning my shoulder to the floor.

Well yer all too slow. The AX boat has sailed. Audi A4 dizzler anyone? ;)

This is still here getting in the way and testing my patience while doing regular van type duties,

So far the last add update attracted four Irish guys who all want to drift the arse out of it, no one has even came to view it yet so I can now firmly stick this car in the same category as those three damn mgs I couldn't shift even for penny's.

Sierra boots are massive. I transported a full size fridge in my Mk1 when I moved into the nurses home in 1986.

They sure are I recon four body's easily 😀

Coming up for four months and still for sale I must be heading for some sort of record surely

This car is starting to do my head in, I was starting to get sick of being stuck with it but it has now started to play up again. it starts nae bother revs fine and acceleration is acceptable but it has now started to splutter on take of and sometimes stall,

I can drive along fine while giving it plenty of throttle but back of slightly to keep a steady speed and it Hicks and jerks its way down the road.

I have checked all pipework and replaced carb mounting gaskets, i had to make one for for the mount gasket but used proper gasket cut to shape,

Any ideas before I kill it with fire

Posted

I've already cleaned it out once and I simply don't have the heart to check it again,

I'm slipping into can't be arsed territory

Posted

I'm going to pretend l know what l'm talking about and say, coil pack?

Vauxhall red top.

These require same amount of work as a Zetec, they go in with off the shelf bell housing and mounts, you don't need to do much else, they are better than any Ford engine in my unqualified opinion.

It strikes me that in the 1980s, Europe seemed to forget how to make carburettors. Or was it just cheapening of the product? 1980s petrols do seem prone to frustrating carb issues though - I wonder if that's the case here too? There was Trig's Astra too, and BX carbs of this period are often a pain in the arse.

It's been fine for a thousand odd miles after I cleaned it and I was certain it was air leaking in somewhere this time but after changing gaskets and checking pipework I'm stumped,

Since I can't seem to shift it on I'm pretty reluctant to throw more money at it so I fear it's days could be numbered unless a cheep solution can be found.

I have a spare twin choke Webber as fitted to the later 1800 pintos if it's any use to you, it's the oval tube type. It's on a pinto manifold.

it's sat gathering dust and can't see me having another 1800 pinto Sierra in a rush, so yours for the post if you want it, only thing is it will be a couple of weeks until I can get at it as having a clear out in a container I rent and it's in a box at the back. I will try and find out which one it is and let you know so you can see if it can be made to fit.

Yay. The weber conversion was very, very common. My 1.6GL Capri had the same treatment. Much improvements.

Had a quick look and I think it's a 28/30 dftm but will have to dig it out to be 100% sure. Have a look and see if you work a manifold or adapt the pinto one and send me a PM of you want it. It's not going anywhere so it's yours unless I hear otherwise.
