The return of the £399 Toledo

Recommended Posts

I put the Toledo up for sale here last year and thought I'd got a victim buyer, but they backed off at the last minute and at the time I thought I'd keep it and put it on the road myself. With plenty of other heaps to look after it didn't happen and now it has to go.

This is what it looks like

Last year's buyer backed out because the radiator was leaking a bit, and I actually got as far as taking the offending item off to sort it. With a re-cored unit costing £170 exchange my solution was to fit a new Fiesta one and this is included but not fitted. It will require alterations to the brackets and slight alteration to the hoses although they line up fairly well. I put the leaky one back on and though it has a bad area nothing is running out at the moment, I expect its healed itself...

So the car can be driven, the brakes work and in general it just needs tidying up. I've got lots of history with it documenting its mileage from new as being under 40,000. Workshop and drivers manuals are included and the interior is very clean and a nice place to be if you prefer vinyl. It has no MOT- its sills were done ready to be put through the test but the previous owner became ill and it never happened.

There are quite a few bodywork issues but nothing that would be too hard to sort. Tyres are all good, chrome is shiny, first to buy will see.

Proof that the engine works and that the radiator is poorly. And the battery it came with is now knacked so you'll need to provide your own.

The car is tax free, the price is non-negotiable, buyer collects from South Lincs, and I'm off for a pint.

no, surely no VAG means 1000000/10 and winner at life, the universe and everything!

Bloody hell that's nice!  I had a Sienna Brown one 35 years ago (shit, really???  I'm so old!) and thought it was a lovely refined way to travel.  In fact I really should have this as a companion for Hyacinth!  Would you like a Saab?

I learnt to drive in a Motoring school one of these, very easy to get moving compared to my father's Citroen GS which I did my driving practice on.

Get down Shep!  You've already got one! ;)

But the animals went into the ark two by two!

Possible short term collection/storage solution here in Mid Lincs.

Oh wow.

Oh wow oh wow.

Whoever gets that is going to be a very happy boy indeed.

8 randoms if it comes to it, that's all I'll get past her!

I keep looking at this.  It must be love.

Here's my old one, for comparison...

those little triumphs are great.

the ill informed will all want a dolly sprint coz 16 valve engine, though i think i would prefer one of these toledo's instead, as its the one most folks wouldn't give a toss about been the base model. and i suppose the rarest model left out of the cars which are left.

with some string back gloves for that proper giffer look.

even been abit crusty, that is a really nice little car.

My thoughts exactly Jo!  I need to work out how I can raise some dosh though, as my offer of a Saab seemed to slip off a deaf ear...

No VAG content just means the emissions are what it says on the tin.... Lots

My shite quotient is off the dial at the moment so no offence.

How long ago were the sills sorted out? Any other major rot to worry about?

I have the sill bill, will report back.

I wish my name was Bill. Then Bill could ask to see the bill for the sill and see what the bill for the sill came to and be a happy Bill :)

This is tempting as a summer run around but I also have too many other heaps to get sorted first before I can add to the problems.

Aside from the wing and rad.. does this need anything else doing?

I'm not sure that even the wing needs doing for an MOT. As I mentioned, there are bits all over the car bodywork that could do with tidying up, but front panel is the worst bit. Mechanically it seems very good, brakes have good 'pedal' and I think the engine and gearbox have lots of life left. Brakes are drums all round with no servo, ideal in my book.

Friend of mine is after a father and son starter classic.  To be honest it's pretty much ideal for what they're after.

Where are you located?, I can ask him if it's of interest to him?

Also very tempted. Transporting it down...... hmmm.

Posted

No no no no no, Ken..  Any transporting will need to be "up" rather than "down" obviously!

Anyone got an idea how much would this cost to get to Tamworth? I have had a triumph itch for some time now.

That looks like a lovely tolly. I wish mine hadn't rotted to pieces!

Any idea what the chassis legs are like?

Been a while since I did it now but in the ballpark of a quid a mile and you won't be far off. You might get it cheaper on Shiply etc if someone's after a back load.

So £85 - £90
