Cheap auto needed - upto £1k - any suggestions?

It needs to be super reliable so i've ruled out ren-oh and puke-oh... (did view a 307 recently and it was lovely.. but had mayo under the oil cap). Shitroen i'm also not totally sure about but i don't seem to hear too many horror tales about head gaskets and gearboxes....

Anyhow i'm the kind of person that seems to kill shit quite easily unless it's built like a tank... but even then i've overheated a volvo engine and condemned that so i still have to hold my breath a bit!

So.. i'm thinking... volvo, honda, toyota... what else? maybe mitsubishi? No clue about ford autoboxes but i know the engines are solid.

Needs to be known for being completely bomb proof, idiot proof and a good mile muncher aswell as doing little short journeys with no fuss. Oh and for the missus's sake, economical.. though i must admit i did like the Legnum VR4 3L posted in the other thread i think she'd have my balls chopped off lol.

So.. any ideas? - I've noticed that cheap reliable cars are becooming harder to come by these days due to the value suddenly sky rocketing (heck someone even has a safrane up for sale for £49k lol) so we're really struggling for ideas!

Any ideas please? (and if someone suggests a 3L Legnum VR4 and a link to one i won't object just as long as you make it sound perfect for the missus lol).

Volvo V40 auto? Japanese-based Swedish car so hopefully a positive mixture of all that is good with both but more likely a cheap collaboration that'll end in many FTPs?

My neighbour has a V40 diesel and swears by it, if that's any help.  I'd be more inclined to the RWD models.  Buy on condition over everything else and you should get a nice one in budget.  Actually... speak to David Fowler of this parish!

Autoshite.

Your motoring is our concern.

FWD for economy. Regardless of what you buy, warm it up for 5 minutes, especially before short journeys. This has worked quite well for me.

We don't have French cars here, unless you count Nissan. So as to which car, ahm oot.

You could look out for a Mitsubishi Space Runner auto, a smallish MPV type thing. The one I have is brilliant, spacious, comfy and just seems to run and run.

I love driving it and it gives better MPG that the Hyundai i10 modern.

My father has a lovely old 2002 Volvo V40 auto...he has to get rid off with a years mot..

He has to go down to one car and only really uses it for taking the dog out in and the odd tip run..

Yours for £400

It has a really nice leather interior and everything works as it should .

Also it has the Volvo 2 litre turbo engine so it's bulletproof.post-9282-0-83288300-1458399320_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-56485900-1458399398_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-10841200-1458399513_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-16206800-1458404494_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-12194600-1458404540_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-49460500-1458404581_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-08315700-1458404608_thumb.jpeg

I was going to suggest a Scenic II given mine has worked for 7 days now (a new record?)

What about a Rover 600 or similar age Honda Accord? Honda engines in them innit

That V40 is bloody tempting.

(If rusty nuts doesn't want of course)

Anyone fancy my V70 for 400 quid?

Kia's or Hyundai's, plenty of autos, unfashionably shite but that seven year warranty keeps them well serviced usually, and you'll get a 2007 Magentis auto for example well within budget, can't praise Our Lasses' Magentis enough, solid as a rock, good on the juice too for a barge 8)

Anyone is welcome to buy it and it even comes with a full Volvo history from Volvo Eastbourne.. It was a one owner car before my dad bought it and only last year had £1500 spent on it a the Volvo dealership on suspension work.

It's done starship mileage with 140000 odd miles but drives well and comes with get you home tax.. If anyone did want it they would have to wait till late next week as we have a couple of tip runs to do in it first due to a house move.

It has the odd mark and dent on a couple of panels but is totally rust free.

Nice cars Eddy.

I had the 2 litre non turbo, and that was nippy enough.

I bet the turbo version is interesting.
