Another day; another free car. FREE TO WHO?

I would, to do a fatharris on it.

However, trailing arm bushes mean it's a no from me. They're at the end of Old Man's tether, and my mechanical knowledge/ability is a lot less than his.

I imagine that's going to put a lot of people off.

You need to be offering free french dervs to win at this game chief:)

Will ask Ma_Sterling tomorrow. She is after something larger than the Micra for the 30-mile (sometimes 40 mile) round commute. Hairnet's Civic looks like a contender too but this being free and her already being familiar with Rover 200s (she had one as a courtesy car a few years ago) this might be a good contender.

You'd be welcome to it Mo. It even comes with a Kenwood stereo. Needs floor mats :D

Drives REALLY well, and it would respond well to a mild Fatharrising.

If I have time in daylight this afternoon, I'll have a look at things underneath it.

Just tell me what time you're arriving at Skipton station, I'll pick you up!

"Free car? yes pl- Oh, it needs some suspension bushes does it?" forget it then"

Clearly you've never had to do them then...

Either that or Old Man is incompetent.

Could be either.

What's so scary about them?? I did them on my wife's old bubble shape 220, took the arms off, burnt the bushes out with the gas and popped the new ones in.

These went back onto the old Maestro/Mk1 Golf "H beam" rear end, rather than the complex R8 multi-link system (as seen in Vulg's 414 thread). So no arms as such.

From memory, the Samara is something like this too.

Pics from this evening.

These bushes don't look bad to me. Deffo no metal-on-metal action, and were silent on the test hoon. My tester would still advise on those at worst.

And if anyone does want to change them, the beam mount itself unbolts from the chassis. Easy peasy.

The exhaust is blowing from around this join here, just behind the cross member.

Access is ok.

Talking to the PO, the downpipe is about three years old, and the rest was new for the last test, or the one before that. It all looks good, so a couple of studs, a gasket, and Gun-Gum at worst will sort that.

I've had a PM from a hard-core shiter and all 'round top bloke, so it's provisionally taken.

For his, and your benefit, more pics on the way...

Good guess, negatory however.

The WINNAR does have previous with the 1396 K though. A serial offender.

The previous advisories made the brake lines look like a horror story.

It ain't all that bad. NSF:

The only scabbiness is the unsheathed bit here. A rub down and grease up would suffice. Same other side:

Under the bonnet, all looks good:

Under the floor:

To my eyes, all it wants is the lines to the rear cylinders swapping.

So just a short and curly one on each end of the beam, and she's good to go.

I told you it wants tyres, right?

It wants tyres.

Two different sizes fitted, both too wide. (All cracked and/or bald. And need weekly pumping.)

185's would suit, I reckon. What's right for these wheels?

I've a set of 45 alloys in my garage with ace tyres for the successful* person ....

Ideal, they'd need Shitelying down the country though!

Interest in these alloys has been expressed further up the thread if they become surplus to requirements.

Oh, I forgot, Will has these 14's available for £30:

They're on Rover rims, ready to go.

It's straight enough and solid throughout, could be tidied if required.

Verdict: FAIR FOR AGE OF CAR

It has oil. Grubby. Filter looks old. But worst of all:

I reckon 175/65/ or 185/65 tyres would be best for that. They'll be 4x100s I'm sure anyhow, so v.easy and cheap to source a set of wheels.

You are giving a car away and the details in this givaway thread are better than any for sale add I've ever seen,

Top seller/giveawayer,

He's had to justify it for those who think it's too expensive innit mate.

The price of scrap is on its arse, and all of a sudden it's difficult to even give a car away on Autoshite.

Coincidence??

Posted

LOLz! The last thing I'd want is for the lucky* winner to come 100 miles or whatever for it, and to turn it down for being such a minger!

I was surprised how un-minging it was underneath TBH, which is nice. After seeing how near a ticket it is, I wouldn't see it bridged.

I would have genuinely loved to that this on, but driving from up near that there Manchester to South Cornwall on a pre-booked MOT is taking the piss somewhat :(
