The dark air outside was crisp under the alabaster glow of a late winter moon. Rain beat down on the window like Ginger Baker tapping out a frantic SOS in the ballroom of a sinking ocean liner.
I swirled the brandy in my two handled plastic beaker thoughtfully and opened the laptop.

Outside sat a Peugeot 309. And there was nothing wrong with it. Apart from the exhaust. And the drive shafts. And that drivers window regulator. And the rocker cover gasket. And probably a cam belt. And a water pump. And a service.
eBay was already open as the man maths span and swam across my idle mind.

My Indian spirit guide Stephen Horsetrader appeared in the office style swivel chair opposite me and nodded.

"Yo need buy car. You no buy car, um heap trouble ahead."

He said as he spun himself around once, but disappeared again before I had time to answer.

I was browsing the wares of eBay distractedly. There were so many fine examples of automotive design and function that it would be hard to choose only one to buy.

My mind was in turmoil.

DID it make more sense just to buy another car. I asked myself out loud.

"No!!" Came a shout from upstairs.

"It's three o clock in the fucking morning! Come to bed!" She continued.

But I knew what must be done.

Saturday night and the ball and chain demanding that you come to the bedroom- we all know what that means!!

I picked something at random. A car to end all cars. Something quick, but frugal. Something reliable, but exciting. Something small, but roomy. Something sporty, but staid.

I placed a bid and retired for the evening.

Falling down the pipes to the next car again. Out as the day dawns. Hurtling south. Toward something else more desirable.

My sleep was suddenly broken as I sat bolt upright. At the bottom of the bed was a ghostly apparition of Ted Bovis, who said "Peugeot 405 LX with juddery clutch"

Thank you.

There are more sparrows per square foot in Durham city, than in any other Cathedraled city in the country.

Statistics taken from the 1876 national sparrow census. Can not be garunteed still correct. Check with your local town hall.

What is it, was a Japanese warm hatch mentioned somewhere?

I thought WW had gone all PSA recently ...

Posted

Japanese warm hatch is correct. Modern though.

Swift?

Posted

Nearly. I don't have the money for a Swift sports version.

Well it looks like I don't have to go anywhere today so it's good to have something to keep us all amused.

Good luck on your journey
